A tall athletic key defender and quick small/medium defender would be nice to add as well.
The quality tall marking forwards and quicker small forwards gave us a bit of trouble at times.
yeah i reckon we take KLWT (likely to cost us our first rounder) then draft 2 players that fit the above

I think this issue goes beyond the defence - I thought it was noticeable in the Melbourne game that their young KPDs pretty much smashed our tall forwards, and it needed the mid group to win that game. Rennie also was well beaten against Melbourne (at leasts in the hit outs). Hetherington gave honest service when she played, but she's not particularly tall, and other than her, there's not much coming through

We’ll bring them over in a couple of years

That ****stick has been going on about us for the last 4-6 weeks.
Probably knew they never had a chance.
Inconsiderate of our AFLW team not to just get honorable draft concessions and extra salary cap or you know, just have head office hand deliver the remnants of an AFL list on a platter like Brisbane mens flags.

Got to laugh at the mass outrage when this came about..
Particularly found this comment to be interesting .

So being the tired and some what can infused supporter….l naturally asked the question.

To which he expertly offered the following

So naturally l thought …,nah not buying that bs cover story …..

Which then produced this rather huh…..verbal what’s this got to do with it l thought response.

by which time ld gone back to work……mulled over what he was on about…then posted my response

And

I was meant to end what Dee’s and lions are doing this to. ..but lack of sleep muddled it.

Funnily enough no response to his accusations…..and he’s been mauled by others on that thread….
Maybe l went a little too far …but from my many drinks first post to last after working next day….l thought..nah fudge you and your pontificating from your swans podcast view….
Anyhoo cheers and night all…lm gald she nominated us and fudge the sour onlookers …onwards with the celebrations.

I know there isn't a massive difference between the tiers, but we are talking about more than a third difference, most people would change jobs for a $5k difference let alone a 1/3 difference. Especially in the AFLW environment where they aren't making enough money to live comfortably and I would imagine most players need part-time or very flexible full-time work, suggesting it is no consideration to shift to a lower tier is bonkers. Unless you would move into our top dozen players it is a significant sacrifice they are making.

Changing from tier to salary cap will solve some problems, create others.

When you look at the men's program, players moved to teams like Geelong and Brisbane for far less money than they could earn at other clubs and we would have to write a blank cheque to get someone in. A salary cap wont stop players wanting to go to a club that someone wants to be a part of, not just because it is successful but it is usually successful because they do things better.

If you were a young kid that wasn't a North supporter, would you want North to pick you up or Geelong? You would be more confident that Geelong could develop you the best and you had people around you that you could rely on. It is the same thing in the women's program, KT was eying off well run clubs, she wasn't considering clubs that were circling the drain. If it wasn't going to be us it was likely going to be Brisbane. The same bitching wouldn't be happening if she picked Brisbane despite them being in 7 of the 10 grand finals. They are bitching about us because they do not like us and want our period of success to be over.

I don't really get the idea that introducing a salary cap will radically change things.

The tier system is a form of salary cap, I get that a player on the same tier is then going to potentially get prize money on top, making a stronger team more appealing, but if a lower team is only offering the same tier, the player is still more likely choosing the team with the better chance of success.

The lower team would need to overpay (ie offer a top or second top tier contract to a player on a low tier contract) to get a player's interest. But that will be exactly the same under a salary cap (as we well known from our men). Low teams will basically end up at best paying overs to mid players. As in the men's, players will still more often choose to accept a little less to play in strong successful teams. On field, career success and likely better off field commercial opportunities.

Some interesting thoughts in here . I never really post about this but I think there are many reason why many don’t currently support the aflw.
Football team sports of all codes are old and domestically have been ingrained as male dominated . So imo it will take a couple of generations where it is seen as main stream . It can be mentally draining following any team and some probably just don’t want to be invested in another team, I understand.
For me personally, I would support a team of snails if it wore North colours , but that’s me and not everyone else.
So when our ladies were finally allowed in , I didn’t even think about it .
Sure a minority may have other agendas but this will take time to be accepted by the majority. But for me, I like many, are enjoying the spoils.

Surely with us winning, back to back premiers, you'd think everyone would be supporting the W.
Following the boys team hasn't been fun for years. Try to find something positive for each game.

True , I have seen more taking an interest. Let’s be honest everyone loves a winner .
Many of the young kids growing up with it now won’t think anything of it when they are adults , it will be the norm for them . It just takes time .

In all honesty it also just takes time. There is no emotional attachment day 1 even if the "same" team. We build these relationships, like any, over time. That's why old farts still talk about the great players of the 90's and even older ones the great players of the 80's, 70's etc - it takes time to build that relationship.

This is why our investment in our AFLW team is an investment in the club as a whole.
Aside from the joy it brings, it will pay us back in spades for years to come
Not to mention all the people, players , staff , families, new supporters who now have a real connection and love for the club.
Who without this new source would not. Another positive

I found it easy to build a relationship because there are a lot of good stories.
Riddell not getting drafted twice.
The Irish women coming to the other side of the world to play a different game.

I really want to get agm into the side - can one of our half forwards/wingers take Karns position if she hangs up the boots.
