The interview I heard to today said he thought about it at the end of last season, met with nicks mid way through this year.
Suggest there was a fair bit of ground works before nicks got involved.

The apologists want to think it was Nicks.
I think the players seem to have enormous respect for Davis in the videos we've seen.
Its great Nick promotes a group culture but it would become tiresome especially to the players who have been worthy of selection and keep getting overlooked.

Why don't you post your best 22 on the board and see how different you have it to Nicks?

I knew you'd come out of the woodwork 😊 and Ryan and Edwards deserved games last year but Maffew and his crew did what they do select their favourites when players could have been rested when players who were performing in the SANFL could have made their debuts but keep going with your coaches are always right narrative.

Just listened to a SEN interview with Callum and they asked him specifically why the move and his reasons in order were 1. Family 2. Adelaide Footy Club 3. Nicks. He spoke more about 1 (especially) and 2 than 3.

That’s the one that I heard and thought he was complementary towards Nicks.
I was also left with the feeling after listening that his main motivation may have been contract length and security .
Good luck to him and us as we were in a position to get a fine player.

Do we still want him?
He was not gushing over Nicks. In the three clips here plus 5AA Nicks gets a mention naturally, and as expected, but in none is he the main driving force. Family was definitely number one, the club in general (Reid?), players such as Rankine and Junior, and even Jack Hombsch got a mention! Yes we do want him.

His coaching leaves him open to criticism.
And what has Callum Ah Chee's move to Adelaide got to do with his coaching ability exactly? Who cares how much input Nick's had in Callum's move to Adelaide even though it does seem his input wasn't insignificant?

Nah you're right they played well, 'deserving games' is a bit rich but Edwards probably should have got a game instead of Smith, no disagreements here. It's just you're talking about the 24th and 25th best players as if they would have made a difference, which is hardly an argument on the Sack Nicks side of things, or whatever point you're looking to make.

And it's a lame straw man argument to come up with a moniker so you can roll it out if anyone disagrees with you, come on man, 'apologist', really do you not have a coherent argument?? 🤣

The apologists want to think it was Nicks.

And the Nicks haters want to say it was everything but Nicks.

Why would Ah Chee meet with Nicks if it wasn't important?

It's undeniable that Nicks was a significant part of it - you can't tell me that a head coach has no impact on players coming / staying.

And for the millionth time - I am no Nicks fan - but his record of culture / player retention / player acquisition is hard to argue against.

A fair bit you would think. If you thought the coach was an absolute moron - I suspect it would make you consider not coming.

I think it's relevant and a tick for Nicks. And he needs them. The culture is Nicks strength - now if only he could figure out match day.

Because he's the head coach of the side Ah Chee was thinking of moving to?

The idea that he wouldn't meet with Nicks before asking for a trade is ludicrous. Him having met with him means nothing.

I'm not a huge Nicks fan, nor a Nicks hater, but it's pretty clear which things Ah Chee emphasised and which were mentioned in passing. Nicks is firmly in the latter group.
