Agree but 34 years old was the point with cripps in reference to the eagles poster saying Richmond should be playing the kids rather than mcIntosh last year when we didnt have any player available apart from a Cat B Ruckman and 2 players coming back from long term injuriesTo be fair Cripps is miles better than Owies ever will be.

I’m gonna enjoy dropping by this thread over the next couple of seasons.
Most of those players will be around long enough for the kids to get the experience they need to improve enough to take their spots.
This idea you have that you must play 18 year olds to rebuild isnt even shared by your club. Its such a strange hill to die on, even for the biggest of nuffies.
No one thinks that, but the heavy lifting is certainly done. We bit the bullet last year and traded out multiple contracted, high trade value assets and brought in 7 kids inside 30 in a supposed super draft including six 1st rounders, plus two more top 10s this year. We will have an early pick in 2026 too. Minimum 9 1st round picks in 3 years is pretty extraordinary, and we already had a few quality youngsters to go with them. Of course there will be setbacks, there already has been some.So are we. Believe us, so are we.
The rose coloured glasses being worn by many Richmond supporters is pretty funny.
Anyone would think the Tigers rebuild is over after one draft. And every kid drafted will succeed. No setbacks at all, the perfect rebuild when so many others are finding challenging.
Most of the players?
Nankervis, Lynch, Vlastuin, andBroad dont have too many years left. And they wont be getting better or play as many games in the final years.
Which leaves who, Taranto and Hopper?
Hense why many are saying Richmond has not bottomed out yet. It will take some astute trading to replace the experience to avoid bottoming out further.
Also expect plenty of clubs to come hard for Ben Miller end of 2026. UFA. Including Mini and the Eagles.
The older players are incubating the youth, so they don't join the workforce as 18 year olds expected to compete against mature men who will run rings around them. With appropriate mentorship from premiership players, our young core will get the 2-3 years of mentoring they need to succeed. This is in stark contrast to North who have none of this and have tried to paper over the cracks with Daniel, Parker, Darling who have zero context or culture with the club.So are we. Believe us, so are we.

The difference between Richmond and the Eagles with their rebuild is when their older players were retiring, they hadn’t sunk 30-50 games into the kids.So are we. Believe us, so are we.

Our strategy sits in between the nuclear rebuild of North and West Coast, and the "top-up forever" strategy of Geelong, yet closer to West Coast and North so as to not sit in mediocrity forever like St Kilda, Essendon, or Carlton. The difference between Richmond and the Eagles with their rebuild is when their older players were retiring, they hadn’t sunk 30-50 games into the kids.
Armstrong and Faull injury permitting will have these games under their belt when Lynch finishes up.
Same with Trainor when Broad calls it a day.
And by the time all of Prestia, Taranto and Hopper all call it a day I’d be hoping that Lalor, Hotton, Smillie, Mcauliffe, Cumming and Grjl have 60-80 games in them.
Nankervis is one we will need a ready made replacement when he finishes up in 2-3 years.
Giving young guys games while decent experienced players are in the side is their mandate and is the key difference with what the Eagles have done. The kids getting incrementally better while the older players decline would be the plan.
But like your scenario where you are convinced that we haven’t bottomed out totally yet, it’s too hard to tell how it will play out.
But it’s certainly a different path than the Eagles have taken.
To be fair, all of our leaders have been taking turns getting injured since 2020.But it’s certainly a different path than the Eagles have taken.
Your leaders in 2020 were on the glide to retirement. That’s when the rebuild needed to start with an influx of youth. Happened too late and now it’s just experienced average players at best holding up an inexperienced core.To be fair, all of our leaders have been taking turns getting injured since 2020.
Easy to say in hindsight. We have Collingwood following the same path as West Coast; hopefully it f**ks them up as badly as it did usYour leaders in 2020 were on the glide to retirement. Serious hindsight call here, the majority of our “leaders” in 2020 were under 30, the age profile was similar to Richmonds, were they also on the glide to retirement?Your leaders in 2020 were on the glide to retirement. Sheppard was all Australian, Tim Kelly was all Australian, Cripps a very good player.Majority?
McGovern, Yeo, Gaff, Darling, Allen, Ryan, Barass, Rioli were the only decent leaders under 30 at the start of that next season.
The club chose to offload five of those eight for draft picks, rather than keep them and recruit a young talented team. (it took them another two years to bring the young talent in that is the start of the exiting young cohort).
It is hindsight, a cautionary tale of what not to do.
Which resulted in the Eagles starting a rebuild led by the draft shortly after with only average older players to guide them. Explains their horrendous last 4 seasons resulting in having to go cap in hand to the league for help.Sheppard was all Australian, Tim Kelly was all Australian, Cripps a very good player.
That’s 11 players under 30, with three more having just turned 30.
Hard to predict the complete physical breakdown across the board, the club traded 5 of those 8 once it was apparent they were no longer able to be consistently relied upon, due to injury.
Yeah, obviously. Acting like they should have predicted the resultant injuries is pretty silly though.Which resulted in the Eagles starting a rebuild led by the draft shortly after with only average older players to guide them. Hold up.So retaining injury prone old players, a stoner who asked for a trade out of contract and refusing to refresh the list is the strategy you believe is smarter?
Considering Tasmania is about to gut the draft?
Cant actually believe you posted that. Makes zero sense. Apart from a poor trolling effort.
West Coast cut their experienced players to the core so they are just left with bog average players helping out.
You obviously aren’t comprehending.Cut what players?
WCE's criticism is they hung onto those player way too long.
The only one of note out of that list you posted would've been Barrass but if we kept him, that meant losing Harry Edwards, meaning our only KPD of note would've been 30yo going into next year.
I seriously can't believe you'd list that lot as gone saying 'we'd 'cut to the core'.
Your premise is laughable.
You obviously aren’t comprehending.
Bean was telling us all that Richmond hadn’t bottomed out because look at what happened to West Coast.
My contention is that it’s different as we’ve held on to our good players while the younger ones gain experience.
Quite different to West Coasts approach which saw them keep their bog ordinary experienced players and replace the good ones with youngsters straight away.
Time will tell which path was right but there’s a difference between the two.
Yep, everything you are saying validates my point.3 of your best players all walked out last year though?
The only good players worth keeping of your list were McGovern, Yeo and Barrass and one was medically retired, whilst Yeo's still on the list.
Richmond's BnF results this year were strikingly familiar to WCE's last year, whilst not having anywhere near the list turnover WCE has gone through.
Yep, everything you are saying validates my point.
We are transitioning the side and still have good experienced players in the team while the younger guys develop.
I doubt we will bottom out to West Coast terrible to the point of begging g for handouts with this plan in place.
