Rawlings.

People management level - expert.
Meh. I'm pretty comfortable with us not going too early with the last few players on our list. In all honesty it was a good move by Maley anyway - his papers were stamped with us not long after Trembath hit the ice on his 3rd game IMO.

I'm a bit meh over Finbarr leaving from the playing perspective (agree that Trembath may have made him redundant) but he seems a ripper of a person and I hate it when good people leave the club.
Not for me to tell people how to do their jobs, but that seems (on a small grab) to be very poor people management.
I hope Finbarr goes on to do really well

Fair play to Maley for finding himself a new club.

But there would be players across all 18 clubs in limbo that time of year.
Yep. It's just not that uncommon if you are in that last 5 or so spots on the list. Personally I would much prefer larger list sizes and more ability to keep players on for development, redundancy, VFL development and simple senior depth in key positions rather than unready 18 year olds. But that's not what the AFL wants.

You should be able to elevate a certain amount of players from your VFL squad in to a ‘practice squad’ who are eligible to play if selected.

I, in general, think list sizes should be enough to cover both AFL and VFL and go back to a genuine reserves competition (would kill the current VFL though).

Agree. We surely have to be getting close to this point a 19 and presumably inevitably a 20 team competition should surely be big enough to fully run and fund a genuine second league. What that would mean for state comps though is a huge problem, more so outside Victoria and in SA / WA I'd say.

Agree. Crazy that we have a league talking about equalisation (lol given the draft etc) and wanting teams to be competitive - but unwilling to face the simple reality that with such large on field teams the draft and develop in AFL model when at the bottom of the ladder is pretty much the only palatable option for struggling teams. I'd much prefer if teams like ours who were struggling could keep competent AFL depth (I'm talking 6+ years ago in our case) and develop their replacements without throwing a bunch of 18 year olds to the wolves. It would absolutely create a better week in week out product at AFL level in my mind. If only because "reserve" players could be strongly rewarded and incentivised to perform in their chances at senior level ($$$, contracts etc). You can't make an 18 year old develop fitness / strength by hoping real hard.

I'd even consider having higher bottom end cap (ie. reserve player cap) for bottom performing teams (or at least give more flexibility in cap spending / list sizes) so those at the bottom aren't overpaying players and can have more fit senior players - even if their level isn't quite the same as other clubs. It is an attrition sport as much as anything at times.

Bit weird of Finnbar to make a comment like that publicly, regardless of whether Brady actually slighted him or not.

Why is it weird? It’s an interview.

Nice to see some transparency & honesty.

It’s not like he’s thrown Brady under the buss or something.

You'd keep a better quality of player on the VFL lists. They'd hang onto the possibility of an AFL career.

Brave of Josh Jenkins to state that a player that should have been selected in the AA squad for 2025 can be an all australian.
I don’t actually know myself, but what was the context? Were they asking for bold predictions or perhaps certainties or what?

Sounds like he wanted a trade and is using that to justify it.

At the same time if he'd kicked that goal against * and we'd won that game as result we'd have signed him before the season ended.

Not necessarily? Maybe he really wanted to stay, but we hadn't committed to him, so he acted on approaches elsewhere. I don't have an issue with it. I would have preferred we retained him as I reckon he has enough there to work with to become something, but if we didn't put a contract in front of him and someone else did (and they are good team with good prospects), then good for him.

Judge has ruled that Tom Silvagni can now publicly be named as the offender in the high profile rape case, as he has now been sentenced.

Said he has to deal with the repercussions of his actions at some point, denying an extension of the suppression order.

"Wearing a prison green sweatshirt, Silvagni beamed into the courtroom seated in a white-walled room. His parents, who supported him throughout the trial, did not attend"

Interesting.
