That time again, it's been a couple weeks and we've since played in both a qualifying final and a prelim! And yes, romped in both of them.

We had a pretty decent turn out, with a lovely 13 posters for 220 total posts attending the Hawks match thread, and 12 posters and a total of 271 for the Delons match.

And already, we're in Grand Final week with the Roys. Massive week for the club, let's get in there and give it our all! GO Dragons!

Well my beloved Dragons, I don't know about you, but I'm still pinching myself that we're SEASON 40 PREMIERS!

An amazing season, and well deserved. We might not have always been on top of the ladder throughout the season, but we got it done when it counts and overall metrics showed us to be a very strong, well rounded outfit on the Qooty field.

And off the Qooty field we obviously had a stronger season too, welcoming back a few stalwarts and overall being a bit more engaged. And naturally, the Grand Final match thread was no exception!

The numbers in our big week blew any away any of our matches this season, with... well, most of the team turning up actually! 21 Dragons contributed during the GF week, for a total of 508 Dragons posts.

Leading from the front with a massive 157 posts was serial_thrilla, followed by that number you expected of yours truly, closely followed by Strigoi (60), a lovely return to form from DragoDelph (50), Pie 4 Life (29), Hatchy1992 (26), PhenomenalV1 (25), A Swallow (17), Ljp86 (12), Blaze Storm (8), Purple Jesus (8), Chief (8), Ligma (6), Knifey Spoony (6), Bradesmaen (6), Drizzy (5), DJ75 (5), freo84 (5), Mooresome (3), VandoHawk (2) and of course that amazing cameo from Lbaddie29 (1).

While normally a weekly award to recognise our favourite posters on the opposition side each round, this year we did something different and got members to vote for their favourite opposition poster in a 3-2-1 format.

This award, previously simply known as the Captain's Encouragement Award, recognises the Dragon that shows a lot of spunk and the potential that they are onto big things.


This season, the award goes to the one and only:

freo84 !

That's right, for the second year running, it's a poster from that Purple mob (another one of those serial_thrilla specials).

It's amazing how time flies as we all know, and yet it was also surprising for yours truly to see freo has already racked up 71 games in the Dragons jumper. Since joining in S37 (in which his debut was one of the best with 29 touches and 16 marks for a whopping 130 DT points), freo has been pretty much a mainstay in the squad, and has often popped up just when needed on the Qooty field either racking up the pill or kicking some important goals. And now is a premiership player no less!

Off the Qooty field freo84 can be one of the quieter ones, and we'd love to see more of him, but still has a nice habit of turning up even at least for that all important single post in a match thread, showing support for the team and contributing. And we at Dragons HQ, in between sipping chardonnays and smoking cigars of course, have still taken notice that freo84 is an active contributor to the team PM, always taking notice of our games and once again supporting the team.

For all that, we know freo84 is a real good'un and has a lot more potential still. So here's to you freo84, congrats on the award!

Let's get the first few rounds of the prestigious Ljp86 Medal underway!



ROUND 1

Our Season 40 opened with a handy 20-point come-from-behind victory against Fighting Furies. Trailing by 11 points at the final change, the Dragons piled on 5.8 (38) to 1.1 (7) in the final term to storm over the top of the Furies, 13.18 (96) to 12.4 (76) at Ljp86’s Lair.

In what was an even team performance, returning full-forward PhenomenalV1 opened his account with three goals alongside Lbaddie who also helped lead the scoring. Up the ground, Strigoi impressed with 27 disposals, nine hitouts, four tackles and a goal through the ruck, while the likes of Blaze Storm (28 disposals, four marks), Freo84 (24 disposals, seven marks and a goal), Hatchy1992 (24 disposals, three marks and three tackles), Drizzy (18 disposals, nine marks and a goal), Ljp86 (21 disposals, seven marks) and Pie 4 Life (23 disposals, six tackles and a goal) were all instrumental.

ROUND 2

After having to dig deep in Round 1, the Dragons put together an emphatic performance in Round 2, piling on 10 first half goals against the Las Vegas Bears before putting them to the sword in a remarkable second half. The Dragons lead by 21 points at the main break, but piled on 7.8 to 1.3 in the last two quarters to storm to a blowout 62-point win, 17.12 (114) to 8.4 (52).

It was once again an even team performance on the scoreboard with 12 players scoring, and the most being that of back pocket co-captain T2B_ who kicked three from five disposals. Fellow co-captain Pie 4 Life had a team-high 22 disposals as well as five tackles and a goal, while Strigoi was fantastic through the ruck once more, having 10 hitouts from 18 disposals, four tackles and a goal. Blaze Storm (20 disposals, one goal) was the other player with 20 or more disposals in a truly even team effort.

ROUND 3

All good things must come to an end, and unfortunately for the Dragons, that end was at the hands of the Mount Buller Demons in Round 3. In what was an entertaining shootout, the Demons lead by 32 points at half-time and 20 points at the final break, and while the visitors road home with six goals to four, it would not be enough to get the job done. In the end, the Dragons fell short by two points, 17.8 (110) to 16.12 (108).

Unlike the first fortnight, the scoreboard belonged to one-man with PhenomenalV1 arriving with a whopping nine goals from 13 disposals, falling short of a double-digit haul only due to inaccuracy. Strigoi (12 disposals, 14 hitouts) battled hard, while Ljp86 (25 disposals, seven marks and two goals) was a standout behind Phenom. Drizzy (15 disposals, six marks and two goals) and Pie 4 Life (18 disposals, five tackles and a goal) also did what they could in a tough loss.
