This is not the movie I thought it was when I said to watch it. I thought it was the 80s sci fi comedy with Emilio Estevez and Harry Dean Stanton ....but thats actually Repo Man so my mistake :tearsofjoy:
I might get time to watch one more but unfortunately dont have Repo Man.unless its on Binge.

I did see that Estivez and Mick Jagger movie a while back.

Need to think my next watch. I might have been a little harsh on Sunshine but loved Innerspace and Repo Men and need to continue that trend

Black Bag - Netflix

Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender play a very British couple both employed by the Secret Service in Britain

Its a cat and mouse who-is-it spy thriller that moves as slow as treacle. Trying to find a mole the movie nearly ties itself in knots trying to be clever - but it worked for me. It may not work for some

Directed by Steven Soderbergh

A.I Artificial Inteligence 2001
Jude Law, joel Haley Osment
9/10

Such a beautiful well rounded movie. Joel plays an outstanding performance as he did in The Sixth Sense. Worth the rewatch.

Honestly I’d be curious on your thoughts on the science on the day after tomorrow

What science? Way back when that movie came out, another forum I was on did a whip around to pay an actual climate scientist to go to that movie and review it.

His summary: "In short, This movie is to climate science as Frankenstein is to heart transplant surgery."

Yeh that was sort of the joke mate.

Peggy Sue Got Married (1986)

A great film that never quite got the respect it deserved. I suspect it suffered due to being released the year after Back to the Future, having similar themes, and not being as good.

Kathleen Turner plays Peggy Sue who attends her 25-year high school reunion, having recently separated from her cheating husband Charlie, played by Nicholas Cage in an early role. (It was Cage's third role in a film directed by Francis Ford Coppola, who seemed really determined to help along his nephew's career.)

While at the reunion, Peggy Sue bangs her head and wakes up 25 years earlier as an 18-year-old about to graduate high school. Armed with knowledge of what her life would be like if she makes the same choices - such as marrying her high school sweetheart Charlie - she sets about making new ones. Maybe.

As any FFC movie, its superbly directed and (mostly) well cast. The weak link is Turner herself. She was 34 when the movie was made and did as well as she could at playing a high schooler but couldn't quite pull it off.

The Artifice Girl 2022

7/10

Not a bad movie. Loved the sequencing into Act III but hated the cluster **** Of an opening sequence and having to put up with Deena.

We slready knew Gareths abilities that we didnt need our hands held to explain what was blatantly obvious. It was painful listening to Deena go on an endless contrived spiel.

Having said that, it was an intersting take.

Haha! Freejack?! Jagger providing the screen with one of its least convincing villains. My ex-housemate and I used to enjoy a drink with a viewing of this, with much of the same mirth that one may experience when watching The Room, Trolls 2 et al.

A Differemt Man 2024

9/10

Definitely have to wafch again. The performances are outstanding. The hidden layers run deep.
This is a great film. Who are these dolts on IMDB who are dragging it down to 6.9?! Oh, well.

For me, it dipped into that Kaufman universe, especially Being John Malkovich, with some similarities to the more recent Dream Scenario, but with much of itself, too.

For what it is worth, I would have it alongside Dune 2, sharing the top of the 2024 dais. A photo finish for second sees a crowded field to include Daughters, A Real Pain, The Apprentice, Didi, No Other Land and My Old Ass (the film, not mine).

Despite some exceptions, not a great couple of years for film on the whole. Yet to see OBAA yet, but 2025, in a celluloid sense for me, has been the equivalent of waiting for a disco biscuit to kick in.

“Is it happening yet? It might be happening? No, I don’t think it’s happening.”

Loved A Different Man and think what I've seen from your 2024 list is pretty stellar. Can't guarantee they'll resonate for you but I thought the 2025 was the strongest year for a while and my "disco biscuit has well and truly kicked in" list (not to spoil my post in the inevitable EOY thread) includes:

One Battle After Another
The Secret Agent
It Was Just an Accident
Sinners
The Mastermind
Sentimental Value
Weapons
Eddington
No Other Choice
Misericordia
The Shrouds
Wake Up Dead Man
Bugonia
Grand Tour
Miroirs No. 3
Kontinental '25
Magellan

Great looking list, Norm. Highlighted are the ones that I am most looking forward to catch up with, hopefully in the coming weeks. Whilst I started strong on the film front, earlier in the year, admittedly I got pretty bogged down with adult stuff, so you have, thankfully, reminded me of promising films that have been released in the second half of the year. Or ones I missed in the first half, like Eddington.

I used to love going to see Lanthimos films. Since Lynch stopped making films and Bros Coen tapped out, PTA (Licorice Pizza aside) and Lanthimos created the most…event cinema, at least in a Western sense, for me.

Whilst I am very interested in seeing Bugonia, ever since The Favourite, I have felt that the experience is very much one of diminishing returns. Much like Guillermo del Toro, he appears to be only painting with one colour these days and it is an exhausting one, at that.

Spiny. Doing the work as always.

Sadly, The Shrouds didn't really work for me as much as I wanted it to :(

Bugonia was the second most fun I've had at the movies this year. Probably the most straightforwardly entertaining Yorgos movie I have seen, in a popcorn thriller kinda way.

Barry Lyndon (finally)

Kubrick, man. Just further confirmation that he is the goat.

Took me a minute to acclimatise to the 1700s vibe but ended up totally enthralled. Nothing to add about the technical aspects (amazing), but the writing is also excellent.

Picked up a couple of things PTA has straight up lifted for his movies. As a Phantom Thread head I was always going to love this.

It’s so bloody good. Can’t wait to watch it again.

Had so much fun at the movies this year. Sinners, OBAA and Bugonia knocked my socks off.

The Dark Knight: Everyone here knows how awesome it is and its awesome because Ledger turns in one of the best performances of a lifetime. Reason we rewatched it because our teenage kids hadn't seen it. Despite them both having very different taste in movies they were awestruck by the great man Heath. It really is a movie where you just cant wait until he is in the next scene. 10/10.

That’s great, guys. Good to hear! It does the heart good to be open to pleasant surprises. And it is always nice to catch up with an old friend, despite the fact you’re growing in differing directions. Appreciate your enthusiasm and appraisal.

I’ll aim to give feedback once I have finally finished painting the lounge room 😩.

Yeah I went in with a bit of dread (similar to Frankenstein and The Phoenician Scheme, both not springing to mind to me above for a reason) but it's the most I've liked a Yorgos since The Favourite.

A Kubrick film everyone gets to after several others, only to find it competing to be his best.

Were doing a lot of animated kids Christmas movies and today was Klaus.

It’s a 2019 Santa origin story and I did not have this ****ing movie making me cry on my bingo card today but GODDAMN.

Really really really good.
