That's all good if you discount the fact that West Coast (2025) were averaging ~40 touches less a game than North (2024), and Harley Reid was the Eagles no. 1 midfielder who was copping a tag every game, compared to Sheezel who had midfield support, noting that North (2024) had five players average 4 or more clearances (Sheezel (3.52 wasn't one) whereas Eagles (2025) had none, with Harley leading at 3.89. It's almost like you can't compare them.

Both are very good players, and both will be multiple time All Australian midfielders in the future, but they are very different players. One is an an inside bull (Reid) and the other is a balanced mid (Sheezel). They would actually be an ideal compliment to each other if they played in the same team.

As a result, i'm prepared to trade with you and take Sheezel off your hands. Can i interest you in Matt Flynn?

Yes, I thought this thread was about future prospects (well it was before the pleb-shit fight).

Reid has obviously been better than Duursma to date, that isn't up for debate. Will that be the case at the end of their careers, probably, but it's not guaranteed.

Reid would arguably be our best kid too, there's nothing wrong with that assessment. He could also end up our 6th (my point kinda).

For example, you took 37 years with less teams to get it right. Now, I'm not saying it'll be 40+, because you are much better off field than at any moment prior to 2017.

I just think (having watched us try) it'll be longer than 5 years moving forward, for anyone. Notwithstanding you're more able to attract FAs/players wanting out etc (you'll do this better than us).

If we consider our starting point as 2024 when our rebuild started and your expected finals contention is 10 years later than that is a failed rebuild in anybody's language.
5-6 years should be the time to contend for finals and it may take 10 years or longer to win a flag if you actually do win
which is no certainty with 19 - 20 clubs in the league
Some North supporters believe your rebuild started in 2020 but i personally think it was when your team got rid of the petrie and Boomer period around 2017 i think it was just of the top of my head.

Reid might well become the best player in the history of the game

But hype doesn’t always equal greatness

He averaged sub 20 possessions and 2 goals per game in his Coates league draft year

And 19 disposals 1.3 goals in his state champs draft year

He’s currently a sub 20 possessions, under a goal a game afl player

He’s very promising but gee whiz he gets hyped up something ridiculous

Dusty had more possessions, double the goals and triple the goal assists in their respective second years. They both basically got the same clearance numbers which were about average

Imagine, just for a second, Reid broke 4 records in his first 3 years, like sheezel had? Every word written by eagles fans and the wider football public of sheep would just write “Reid” for every word. Instead he gets it 18 times per game and kicks a goal just about better than every other week

Tigers timeline is quite similar to Hawthorn’s post 3-peat, except their “master coach” didn’t outstay his welcome. Hardwick departing in 2023 was a blessing. They’ve also got draft value for trading premiership players which Hawthorn never did. I would say they are currently around 2022 on “Hawks rebuild time”, and could possibly be contending for the eight in 2 years time if things continue to go right for them.

Yeah contending for the 8 or WW is not contending for a premiership or 'contending' period. It's a stay of execution, yeah they're doing ok, even great if some of the injured kids come good. Maybe you're right. Just can't see how Richmond or anyone for that matter get ahead of Firstly Brisbane, but then GC17, I mean we're pushing shit (and we've been toilet for years & been given a shit tonne on top), Tigers will likely be too once they realise that this latest dead-cat bounce was exactly that.

and? He's a lock down small Defender. Of course his stats aren't great.

Is he a better prospect? Probably not, but when one costs pick ~75 and the other costs a R1... he's more than handy.
