So therefore Albo fell for it.This is imho a naive perspective but one that will have popular appeal and be parroted across the Murdoch press if a Federal RC is eventually called. It will no doubt stick.
But Albanese eventually agreeing to hold a Federal RC in the face of a huge backlash is NOT a failure of leadership imho. But a failure of political savviness.
His intentions might have been honourable and a Federal Royal Commission is totally unnecessary in terms of developing a credible, timely and targeted response to the Bondi shootings. Especially given a NSW RC had already been announced and a raft of Federal Government security and antisemitic reviews and actions were already in place. But, as respected political analyst Professor Mark Kenny set at the outset - rejecting a Federal RC at the outset was a major tactical mistake by Albanese
Because while he has been strong in standing up to the orchestrated and targeted political campaign being waged against him, the reality is that he is a Prime Minister from the left wing of the Labor Party whose leadership is reliant on the support of the largest number of Labor MPs (including dozens of first timers) a serving ALP PM has ever had.
And one can only imagine the huge pressure being brought to bear on these MPs from their constituents fired up over the front page campaigning led by the conservative and right wing lobby groups over the past few weeks.
Within hours of the Bondi massacre, current and former conservative MPs and their supporters in the legacy press were laying the blame for the terrorists actions at the feet of Albanese and demanding that he hold a Federal Royal Commission into not just the shootings but the broad issue of antisemitism. The very fact that this single act of terrorism became a political rallying point is in my view, one of the main reasons why a Federal RC should have been resisted - because it would no longer be about healing deep wounds that had been created since October 2023 and trying to restore harmony in Australian society - but the complete opposite.
But as was said in this thread by others, as soon as this became a political rallying point - Albanese was in 'damned if he did/damned if he didn't' . Continuing to reject a Federal RC would see the 'what is he hiding' headlines continue. Finally, belatedly agreeing to the pressure being brought to bear on him by almost every major media outlet in the country will lead to calls as you just made - a weakness and failure of leadership.
A win for the baying crowd and right wing of politics whichever way he turned. Which is exactly the goal of those who led this campaign of course. While I have no doubt that many of those calling for a Federal RC were doing so for honourable and just reasons, for the campaign organisers and their media supporters it was NEVER about the RC and what it might find.
It was all about partisan politicking led by the rich and powerful.
And once again the Australian population fell for it.
So therefore Albo fell for it.
well, i was wrongHe will read the room - ie country.
you need social and professional circles that aren't a echo chamber.I think you're just reading the front page of News Corp papers. As I said, there's no discussion among my social or professional circles about the need for an RC. I'd be surprised if anyone said it was the topic of choice at their last social catch-up. It might seem harsh to say, but people have moved on (cost of living, Venezuela etc) and will just accept whatever review comes in down the line.
So therefore Albo fell for it.
If these people keep this up some might conclude they just want o whack Albos labor govt and not get to the root of those people in society who want to make anti semitic views into violent actionalbo called the RC. Virginia Bell to head it. The "jewish community" doesnt like her appointment. The only reason that I can find is that she is "too close to the Labor party". Does that mean that they want someone close to the Liberals? or Likud?
I'd be grateful to hear a legitimate reason why the "community" is rejecting her. Maybe pickle or doggie can man the whatsapp and provide an answer...
Isnt getting booed at a sporting event a right of passage for Pms?He knew the AusOpen Final was 2 weeks away and didn't want to be booed at an internationally telecast event.

The ECAJ is the peak body. The fringes can please themselvesgood work, doggie....see what you can do with the zionist federation and the rest. Take your time. I know there's a large time difference with head office.

How exactly does silence echo? Please enlighten me.you need social and professional circles that aren't a echo chamber.
Sam Maiden giving Frydo the inside rail to mouth off tooWhy did he bother, News Corp already running stories about 'Jewish fury at RC appointment', if he caves to the appointment, there will 'fury over the terms'. Should have Dan Andres dead-batted it and mocked News Corp while he was at it.
Yep, it's a massive own goal. Was never going to please those most vocal unless the RC was moulded to their wishes, and now he just appears weak and has left far more people pissed off with him. The ALP have completely misread the tea leaves on this one.Why did he bother, News Corp already running stories about 'Jewish fury at RC appointment', if he caves to the appointment, there will be 'fury over the terms'.
