Fair call - though he's never been solo ruck before, so may need to keep getting kms into his legs.
Doubt McAndrew will get though a full season... so we should be looking to use ROB against the more mobile shorter ruckmen.

Friends with a few of his mates, he hates the Crows ( due to being sacked). Puts on the fakeness for his 5aa call. He was very happy we went out in straight sets last year.

His expertise are shit, I genuinely can't stand listening to him as a commentator. He's got the Neil Craig mentality drilled into him, talks about continuity being the most important thing and trumps everything else. Blokes a dud.

Our wingmen can be confused easily as half back flankers as they cover so much ground.

If Cook had kicked straight, both would have had a goal too.

Surely with a 5 man bench Cook is a lock as cah play different roles.

He's a player team mates should be getting the ball too. More Cook & less Butts delivering the ball please.

Jones wss also very good, so his knockers won't be happy as also looks locked for round 1.
I like Jones but not sure he is a lock, especially if Cook plays.

With first choice wing types players Ah Chee and Cummings due back round one and possibly Hinge to hbf (he may miss now as was becoming marginal) how many of Cook, Jones and Nank could play?

1, max 2, in my view.

Cant blame people who feel they were wronged by the outcome of the review. Cant expect him to like the club. However, the decision makers from that time have all gone and really its just the club as an entity that exists.

A few players played in the A team due to injuries. For the first time in a few years id say selection is relatively open and may hinge on how well some players go against Fremantle.

Jones played well enough yesterday but id like to see more against Freo.

Cook looked the goods, Nank a little disappointing IMO.

We play 3 wingmen.

Expect Cumming, Jones & Cook... with Ah Chee up forward.

Nankervis wasn't given many minutes, whicu wss disappointing.

Someone made this (it's not counting the eight or so minutes Kayo went down) What I'd like to add is it's funny how the narritives of "Cook/Jones didn't do much" and other such comments fall apart the second the stats are there.View attachment 2532789
Did Tex play more than Fog? The kick and marking disposals differentials (Tex 3 x more marks and kicks) are not what you'd expect.

so Nank misses?

Cook has been a stand-out across the summer in his new position, with his mixture of skill, poise and speed making him a natural fit in the Crows’ defensive group.

But heading into the pre-season opener, availability and team balance meant that Cook’s opportunity in the senior side would have to come on the wing.

He took the opportunity with both hands, putting his developing skill-set on show in a slightly different position.

“I’ve been training half back all pre-season, which has been a lot of fun, but tonight my opportunity came on the wing, and I jumped at the chance to play up there,” Cook told AFC Media post-game.

“I went into the game with the mindset of just trying to make the most of my chance, and overall I felt pretty good out there.

“Although it was a slightly different position to where I have been training, I was able to use a lot of what I’d learned in the summer at half back up on the wing tonight and felt confident in my game.

Why would we do this? Have him train in a new role all preseason, and then in the first trial match move him to a different position altogether?

Is it just to try and find out who can cover for Curtin? We were presumably planning on moving him to the midfield anyway.

Seems bizarre. Why did he spend months training down back if that's not where we want him to play? Or, if we do want him to play there, why did we miss out on the first chance to actually try it out against proper opposition?

If they're trialing it in a practice match it's not because they think it's a failure
They're not trialing anything.

FFS, anyone could see that we were just going through the motions at the end and making sure we didn't get injuries. It should have been like past years, and we both brought on reserves.

Trust the AFL to revert back one of the few good rule changes they've made.

Having rucks stand flat on the ground wrestling each other is rubbish. They should expand the rule to also prevent wrestling at around the ground stoppages.

If rucks get injured jumping they should be blamed for poor technique
Maybe.

I can't think of too many other professional sports that ask players to run and jump and each other with extended knees. Seems like injuries could be inevitable.

Not bizarre at all. Read what he says. His confidence has increased from the experience. He is the closest thing we have to Curtin on the wing. He can now play in three different positions.

Why did we put Cheddar at HB in the twos all last year, given that he is going to succeed or fail on his midfield performances? It's the same.

There are lots of professional sports where injuries are inevitable. That's not a reason to change the rules to make the game worse.

How many other sports kick the ball between 4 posts?
How many ruckmen got knee injuries knee on knee though?
Id assume 95% happen in other ways

So you think they had him train with the defensive group all preseason with the intention of playing him on the wing when the real stuff started?

I get that all that and you very well could be right. The whole Walsh thing still is holding me back from going too hard at him. He's got some credits there that very few people ever get.

All credits have an expiry date tho.

Yes, he was great thru the Walsh issue but that time has now passed.

Man youre a chore.

We controlled the entire game, were in no danger of losing it. You probably shouldn't take hints from Vader when trying to analyse a game you didn't watch.

I mean West Coast held a 4 goal lead over Freo today, the Suns got torched by St Kilda too.

Never in danger at all.

Just on the difference in scoring shots - it can be irrelevant especially when you need to assess where the shots were taken and how many if any were rushed.

It reminds me of the 1998 GF, everyone says how Roos wasted their opportunities. If you have a look at the game, you see a lot of their behinds were from 40-45m+ out in the second term, now the day was windy at times and being at the MCG the wind does swirl.

Fair call - though he's never been solo ruck before, so may need to keep getting kms into his legs.

He was a solo ruck in the SANFL last year and had done an apprenticeship at Sydney.

Whilst no doubt he'll improve after a year of it, if McAndrew wants a career, he needs to be ready now. After all, we're due for a bit of dumpster diving to find a new ruck.

Time will tell but there's clearly more than 3-4 spots on the ladder between the respective squads assuming similar injury runs. I reckon if you ranked each squad 1-35 (stripping out most recent draft), Power would be very lucky to have a superior player on the relative rankings on more than a handful of positions (with a couple of them at the pointy end.). A handful might being generous. They are doomed. Davies knew the massive squad holes - he indicated this to me in a dealing I had with him - and probably why he jumped ship. Lucky us - we get to rejoice over the ferals for the next few years.

Making top 6 / winning the flag odds (Sportsbet today)

Crows 5-6th

Power 12th

The growing gap between the clubs is going to become a chasm over coming years when Butters/Bergman leave and they finally start hitting the draft seriously (but waiting 3-4 years onwards for that to pay off). Would be surprised if they win more than 2 of 8 showdowns this decade (esp once their elite players start jumping ship)

Reckon my ladder predictor had us 7th and them 10th or 11th, not vastly different to the Sportsbet odds. I’m comfortable with my predictions. I also think it’s risky predicting too many seasons ahead, things can change quickly. They look like losing Butters, but also look like getting NWM a year later.
