thats exactly what they call it - it doesn't have to be caused by load accumulation - bone stress can be caused by a collision - and is what appeared to happen in this case.

I'd love to blame someone for this - but it looks like its just a collision injury - which happens
Where does it look like a collision injury?

It reads and presents as an overload/overuse injury.

It's impossible to know if you are "overdoing it" for a particular individual. If anyone thinks they can predict what is too much training then they need to publish their findings and methodology in a reputable journal.

Otherwise, everyone is an expert with hindsight. They say hindsight has 20/20 vision.

I challenge you to give your parameters to prevent overtraining syndrome. Hotton was literally playing great footy last week after a whole summer of training.

The so-called experts on this forum are just experts after the fact, and that's a FACT!
I’ve heard veterans like Grimes, Jack, and Cotch all mention the steep learning curve of 'listening to your body.' It often takes a fair bit of trial and error between the player and the medical staff to dial in the exact training load that keeps them peak without breaking them.

Poor kid. I hope he turns it around and gets back on the park as soon as possible.

I'm so ****ing flat and I'm getting so pissed off at the usual suspects that are desperate to just lay the boots into the club at the first opportunity.

Triggering beyond belief. I might need to steer clear of this thread for the rest of the day.

This one hits hard..because we have had Gibcus, Smillie, Lalor and Hotton now out for so long. Year after year!

Normally injuries are bad luck, but this doesn't sit right. Something is wrong with our medical team/lead up to round 1. Every year this happens! If players are training so hard and injuries are being over looked, then we are completely unprofessional. Round 1 is when we need everyone fit and firing. Not in the pre season.

Hope he recovers well, and the same with Smillie. We really need them healthy for the back end of the year and 2027 onwards. It's getting ridiculous now where a youngster somehow gets injured not during any game and is out for several months at a time.

So we traded Bolton and Rioli for a couple of injury prone kids that can't get on the park. Good work Blair.
Go pull the wings off flies to make yourself feel better

On a brighter note, Josh Smillie might be playing some VFL minutes this weekend (per Herald Sun)…

serpell was the water boy at the scatters

Richmond youngster Taj Hotton will enter a rehabilitation phase after the Club discovered bone stress in his hip.

The 19-year-old, who was a strong performer in last week’s match simulation against Essendon, reported hip soreness following the game, with scans revealing the bone stress.

Richmond High Performance Manager, Ben Serpell, said that while the Club would have a clearer picture of the injury’s timeline in the coming weeks, Hotton was set to miss some football.

“Taj will begin modified weight bearing across the next 10 days to two weeks, before starting a slow progression back into running,” he added.

“We anticipate that it will be approximately six to eight weeks before he is back running and possibly four months before he is available for selection.”

Serpell said that Hotton had a diligent and managed off-season and pre-season, with the Club mindful of his loads following his recent ACL injury.

“Taj has done some really strong conditioning over both the off-season and the pre-season, and we were really pleased with how he was placed for this season,” he said.

“We know his professionalism will continue across this rehabilitation phase, and we will support him through that.”

Hotton played seven consecutive AFL games to finish his debut season last year, after returning from an ACL injury in Round 13 of the VFL season.
