Maybe we could trade Butters for a 2026 First Round pick, and also a decent player or two who wants to go to Tassie in 2027, and effectively hold them for 1 year.Although Tassie hold a huge handful of the early draft picks for 27, one of their requirements is that they have to use some of them in trades and not take them to the draft.
5,7,11 and 13 are on the table for trades for 2027. The Dogs or any club wanting Butters, will have to work out a way to get minimum 1 but maybe 2 of those picks of they are to offer a reasonable price. That will likely require them parting with a player or two and upping their F1 position.

We could have a signed deal with Tassie to trade them, and a hands off agreement to stay away from our draftees.
Seems like the only way to reduce risks of taking a 2027 future first.
Agreed - that’s a fairly decent player to push a pick back up from say 25 to a 10-12.Feel we should be holding strong that any club offering future firsts in the Tassie draft (assuming it’s a strong club so will be late), has to package that with a player or other picks and move it up to another team for what would be expected, an earlier future.
Never know how future teams will improve but package a F1 + player to a team expected to be in that 7-12 range and improve the pick to hopefully in that 15 range which comes to us rather than a 25+ first.

Just depends on who Zak wants to play for. If he chooses the Hawks, we might get a fair bit as they will be desperate for him. There are plenty of ways to get picks, sell next year's picks, three way, four way deals, etc. Busslinger might want to go home and they get something for him.
This is why I said a couple of weeks ago that Port's best case scenario might be to get Butters to extend for 1 more year. That way we unlock a lot more optionsThey dont enter the trade until 2027 though
Money, and perhaps the chance to win it again towards the end of his career. But aside from that I agreeHonestly he’s a two time premiership winner and All Australian.
What would be the attraction of coming to a Port side that’s going to struggle.
Honest question as I haven’t heard one thing to give me any confidence he would come to us.
I like that deal, with maybe a sweetener first round pick thrown in.. maybe Will might see a change in scenery as the best way of getting back on the park. Will Day and 12 months of Beiersdorf bandages

Why do you think the media will talk about him staying at Port? They have no obligation to keep us in the race even if it was realistic. The media want to see Butters with either Bont or Daicos. Zak has the opportunity to do the funniest thing in the player movement landscape. He's currently allowing the media to speak on his behalf and if I were Zak, there's no way I'm letting that happen.Money he will get no problems wherever he plays.
Another flag ? We are in a rebuild basically and there is better options if he’s looking for success.
It’s just I’ve read nothing about he even considering going to Port.
It all seems to be talk on our forums.
I’m taking about the other Zack haha. Why do you think the media will talk about him staying at Port? They have no obligation to keep us in the race even if it was realistic. My bad, this is getting too difficult to follow because every where I see the talk is about Zak and not ZacI’m taking about the other Zack haha.

This is one of the times when Port needs to show its spine and take this to the nth degree. Make a legal challenge in court if there is a way.
The AFL have had this rigged system for years and so many teams have taken advantage of it. Yet now Port are likely to be on the good end of it finally for a change, only to see the AFL move the goalposts to make it borderline impossible to obtain any sort of advantage by having these NGA and F/S selections.
Our Club has quite literally invested millions into the academy program over a number of years. The return is meant to be realised just as it has with so many other teams, in the form of getting high quality young players at a cheap price in terms of draft capital.
The league moving the goalposts this year whilst allowing trades multiple years in the future also reeks of competitive imbalances and inequity. No amendment to these rules should occur for at least 2 years given no picks in those draft classes can be traded, and hence, all teams remain on an even playing field.
lol Bailey Banfield is ****ing terrible. Has been Freo fans' #1 whipping boy for years, must have pictures of Longmuir.Bailey Banfield an FA, probably better value than Fiorini. Jordan Butts also an FA.
He is pretty shit, will most likely end up back in the Wafl and play out his time there.lol Bailey Banfield is ****ing terrible. Has been Freo fans' #1 whipping boy for years, must have pictures of Longmuir.

Does that include the Mini draft ?They dont enter the trade until 2027 though
then the only one left playing for the Magpies is McLennanLogan Evans and Jed Hagan were brought in with a chance to get drafted. Kyle Marshall joined trying to get re-drafted.
if we can fill these positions with a few NGA players and a few young players from interstate so we can draft them in the SPP & Mid Season draftif he leaves then in most cases the 3 x 1st rounders are going to be picks between 15 & 26+ due to Tassie coming into the competition and any free agency (after pick 10)I love Butters and want him to stay but if we are rebuilding or if he leaves, I want three first rounders in 2026 to help getting Cochrane and some top midfielders and tall timber defenders.
Then doing our best to grab Pilot, Salopek, Rodan, Tambe in the next year.
Still got a ways to go though.

If we are entering a rebuild I’d be ruthlessZac Bailey aside, it’s not an inspiring FA list from a Port perspective.
Kade Chandler is better than some of the players we have filling similar roles.
Sam Sturt and Bailey Williams I’m not convinced aren’t spuds but would fill needs.
Let's be 'ruthless' by bringing in a 26 year old whose supporters almost universally want him delisted on a big FA contract. Great start to the rebuild. If we are entering a rebuild I’d be ruthless
Time to trade Wines and bring in Tom Sparrow as a FA from Melbourne as the replacement
