Have Richmond passed North and west coast

Yeah.

Still, Waterman proved against Andrew that it's better to be smart than tall. Should've kicked 5 on him if he kicked straight and he looks like a midget next to Mac.
Agreed.

Big only counts for so much.

Same with timidity, coaching players to use their bodies and size is different to coaching players that instinctively play hard.

Yep. Barnett on our list has suffered from that since being drafted and it's only late last year he finally realised he's big and can start using his size.

I missed North's game on the weekend, because my allocated game for watching terrible football was the Eagles game (and Blues v Tigers), but how did the "most talented" Duursma go for North? You had a good win, so assume he got amongst it?

It was a positive start. Low stats but kicked a nice banana goal. An advantage call stopped him kicking the snag (would have been his 2nd). Forced a couple of turnovers with nice tackles, was also clean under pressure handing off a couple that were shots at goal. If he doubles it to 10D and 2 goals a game it would be great for us moving forward

Wait, i just looked his stats up.

He had 5 touches??? 5? in 69% game time? He also had three turnovers?? How is that possible?

I'll watch it back. I don't remember 3 turnovers at all. Happy to be proven wrong. He had a Meh moment early but after that was clean and pressured well. Averaging a goal a game

If we're in the Andromeda galaxy then your lot are all the way out here with us if games against Gold Coast are the measure champ
Do you believe West Coast is at the same level as Geelong?

So ultimately I don’t know whether he makes it or not. If I had to guess now, I say he has at best an average career.

That said, it was a promising game from him.

Primarily because he was more involved than he’s been previously. Cut butters in half with an aggressive tackle. And worked hard up and down the ground, helping out in defence.

He’s essentially gone from a guy that looked devoid of all confidence last year, to an engaged contributor that looked at home playing with his mates.

In terms of physicality and effort it was his best game at afl level

He was a bottom-three player from us in that game, but when you combine it with his preseason form, there has been a clear improvement to his workrate and confidence lately.

I've never been as excited by him as the other recent high picks we've had, but he's clearly talented, and whether he ends up at North or somewhere else, it makes sense for him to get an uninterrupted run at the start of this season so long as he keeps showing signs of improvement.

Largely our forwards didn’t have to do much but convert, which he did. We scored on over half of our i50s. A lot of our ball movement went through our midfield and defence and as such the forwards weren’t required to push up as much and none of the forwards really got over 10 touches other than Powell/McKercher who play more as mids. So contextually he was involved when he needed to be and the game didn’t really need him to be more.

Far from it, the ratings sites had him just below Sheezel and he was actually rated above both Curtis and Zurhaar

Its true Curtis had a subpar game by his standards.

On Sheezel, I don't care what the ratings sites say. You can't compare a 31 disposal + 5 tackles + 5 inside 50s to Duursma's contribution.

One was an integral part of the engine that won the race, the other had some classy moments and showed pleasing commitment around the contest.

I agree, but they mark impact and clean disposal highly. Which is good, too many people go 5-8 disposal, lol..

His ball use was one of the highest in the ground and his kicking situations were deemed difficult, snagged a hard goal himself and then had score assists or score involvements in virtually every touch.

Thats why he was marked highly and not deemed close to the bottom 3 players..
