federer in this match so far reminds of a negative hewitt.

He has too much to lose and is waiting for his opponent to break rather than going for the win

Hopefully the unforced errors would dry up.

no disrespect to Djokovic but the way federer is playing, I think if Federer had played anyone in the top 10 he still would be down 2 sets.

Damn I should've put some money on him. Anyone know how much he was paying?

It's definitely gonna be a very interesting final now.
Cmon Novak! :thumbsu:

I will eat humble pie here, well done Novak, i think federers reign is coming to an end pretty soon.

Lets not jump the gun here, one lousy match in 4 years is pretty darn good if you ask me

We all know that Federer was no where near his best tonight.. sure Novak had something to do with it, but you rarely see so many unforced errors from Federer.

sure, but these european guys are coming and will only get better from here. Murray, Nadal, Djokovic, Tsonga and on a lighter note, Tisperavic they are all very young guys and will only get better.Federer is 26 is not getting any younger.

I was going to say here come all the takers down, getting the Australian cricket team and Federer down in the space of a week!!

Illness affected preparation really hampered Roger I would think

He has won more slams than anyone else his age ever has, WTF do you want him to do, go back in time? What a silly thing to say, have faith, he will still win 1 or 2 slams this year.

Well done Djokovic, I don't like you one bit but you played very well and had balls of steel.

Oh come on - Roger wont use that as an exuce!

how about showing some respect to Novak (and that goes for the morons who post the 'Federa wasnt his best' crapola) - he was clearly the better player and when the big points were there to be won he delivered. Commentators harped on all week about wheather he would tighten up, wheather he had the mental strenth and hes proven that he has

He will beat Tsonga Sunday night to claim his first Slam - and he DESERVES it

I meant to say, he wont be getting any better from here on.He has set the standard and the guys have go get him.It looks like guys like Djokovic are already there.

Well... I was wrong.

Novak played a great game from what I saw (only saw last set) and Federer was never allowed to get into his usual groove.

I thought Federer had the better of a lot of the rallies, but Novak's big serving helped him out at times.

Still, great win by Novak and it sets up an intruiging final against Tsonga.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and predict a Tsonga win.

yep no question that the Aus Open has showcased the next generation of top tennis players. This has also been evident in the ladies game. The once dominant williams sisters and Henin have been blasted off the court by the more powerful players in sharapova, jankovic, and ivanovic.

But I think Federer has still got another couple of grand slams left in him Federer didn't play in Qatar or kooyong and hence was rusty and this was clearly evident throughout the tournament

No one is disputing that Novak was the deserved winner. He played better than Federer tonight.

But what is so moronic about stating that Federer wasn't at his best? If you think that Federer was playing at his best then you obviously haven't watched Federer play before.

And why would Novak deserve the win more than Tsonga. Tsonga also had to beat quality players to get through.

That’s an absurd comment. How about you give Djokovic the respect he deserves? He played unbelievable tonight, he had tactics that worked and his courage on the big points was amazing. His defence was unlike anything Federer’s ever seen before (Nadal esque) and some of his winners were just too good. Federer was powerless to stop Djokovic, all you need to do is to look at the tiebreak, Federer was throwing it all at Novak but he kept responding. What a gun.

As you said you only saw the last set so that’s probably an accurate summary of the 3rd. Djokovic dominated the rallies in the first two sets, completely dominated from the back of the court. He did tighten up in the 3rd and he started going for more winners instead of setting the points up as he was doing in the first two sets.

I had a feeling Nole was starting to tire, if fed squeezed out that set, anything could have happened.Noles fitness is really worrying, if he is going to a dominant force in tennis, he must improve his fitness..he is only 20, had an easy run in the A.O so far and he looked tired at the end of it

Perhaps I shouldn't have posted it then, but he got taken to 5 sets by Tipsarevic of all people. This tournament certainly wasn't vintage Federer was what I was getting at, but I said to everybody today that Novak would win this so I am not surprised, good on him.

.

My comments were made after the second set. And I stand by them. Federer was making way too many unforced errors.

And why was that? Not because he had an off night, it was because Djokovic was getting everything back. Everything he tried Djokovic was managing to get back, he felt he needed to go for more because what usually works wasn’t working. Djokovic was playing too well, both defensively and offensively and Federer couldn’t keep up tonight. Not because he had an off night, but because Djokovic was too darn good.

For the first two sets, I found most of the points to be rather short. There was not much rallying from the baseline and a lot of the unforced errors that I speak of had Federer spraying his forehand half way up the net early in the points.

I congratulate Djokovic for being the better player tonight. He no doubt deserved the win. But I'm not backing away from my view that Federers performances throughout the tournament and not just against Djokovic, was dominated by unforced errors on his part. Federer was making the same unforced errors throughout the tournament but the other players just couldn't capitalise on it like Djokovic

You are clearly putting words into my mouth as I wasnt talking about the Final, I was talking about tonight as you harp on about Federa!!(If you read the post properly you would know that)

Can you tell my why Novak doesnt deserve to win if he good enough on sunday???? (which i said he will pre-tournament btw)

Secondly I find making excuses for Federa rather givng Nole (hellllooooo he was the winner last time i checked ) his full dues is as moronic as it is disrespectful.......but thats just me!

Or is no one bests federa he only looses?
