AFL once again provides the most entries of any code in the top ten. Another win.

It doesn't include the ONE figures which would have added roughly around 90k to the total, but the Haw - GC match on the Saturday afternoon would have to be easily the lowest rating AFL match ever. Appalling ratings particularly in Melbourne.

The Storm in Melbourne beat the Swans in the Sydney. amazing.

AFL panced the NRL in the ratings on Sunday 805K for the national game against 558K for the regional one. :thumbsu:

86k v 85k Storm v Swans...2hr v 3hr on sample data... oh clap clap clap :p

NRL fans your home truths (for those who can read):

AFR 20 June 2011 (page 40) ;)
Premier wants all NRL Games
by Neil Shoebridge

"Foxtel and Austar were prepared to cop a massive price increase becuase they are convinced having more AFL content will boost their subscriber numbers in the AFL obsessed southerns states" a TV executive said.

"Premier wants to be able to show all NRL matches, but it doesn't think that will generate the same growth in the rugby league states, that is NSW & Qld"

" Pay TV's existing NRL content is superior (in terms of more games for longer) to its AFL content and one of the reasons it has a higher household penetration rate in NSW & QLD than in the southern states."

According to figures from TV ratings company OZTAM, pay TV is in 37.5% of Sydney homes, 31.9% in Brisbane, 28.6% Melb, 27.3% Perth & 24.4% Adelaide.

"Rugby league officials and clubs look at the AFL deal and assume the NRL can get a massive increase for the next TV deal" one media executive said.

"But the AFL is a different TV product to the NRL. The AFL is popular in more states than the NRL. AFL broadcasts run for three hours versus two for NRL broadcasts. The AFL can sustain pre and post game programs, whilst the NRL can't"

It's an opinion piece ffs, no one knows what is going to happen.

And since when will there be no growth in NSW and QLD?

I haven't got Pay TV, haven't had it for 3 years and I know plenty of others who don't.

If the NRL gets a fair deal from Fox, I'll consider getting it again, if they don't, well I will not be signing up again.

Let's look at the TV ratings for Sunday as an example of whilst the NRL insulars get excited by 1 ratings point:

Nice, but why not wait to get the Pay Tv ratings and the regionals before going off half cocked?

lol.

Usually, the Sunday game on FTA gets over 400k in the regionals, that means the Pay ratings wouldn't even need 200k which is a given to beat the AFL as usual :D

Another thing the NRL insulars get wrong is when they try and pick trends based on a couple of Tv ratigns results. So let's indulge 'em:

Lets take the past two Storm games shown live into Melbourne on a Sunday.

Melb TV ratings

Couple of weeks ago
Nth v Adel 193K AFL
Storm v Rabbits? 50K NRL

yesterday
Carl v Syd 270K AFL
Storm v WT 86K NRL

So both the AFL & NRL TV audience grew. How can this be? Surely the NRL took ratings off the AFL?

Oops...

The AFL increased from 193K to 270K an increase in real numbers (well a sample) of 77K (almost the entire Storm rating)

The NRL increased from 50K to 86K an increase in real numbers of only 36K.

The AFL had double the growth of NRL in TV ratings in Melbourne. :p That will really do their head in. hahaha :D

You conveniently left this out:

Nine pays an estimated $200m under its existing contract and chief executive David Gyngell has made it clear he will fight hard to retain the NRL TV rights.

"Nine has a great deal on the NRL now" said one media executive.
"It gets 3 good games each week, plus Test Matches and the State of Origin series which generates huge ratings"

Read "Great Deal", means is getting screwed.

Talk about scrapping the bottom of the barrel :D

Paint any picture you want, the truth is, the Storm have rated higher this season in Victoria than the swans have in Sydney all year at their 3rd attempt.

No need to get flustered RedBum, RL rates very well, so get used to it :thumbsu:

Storm ratings are pretty ordinary when you consider they are now 1st and going great guns this year...
