Review Round 19, 2018: Werribee v Box Hill Hawks, 11 August 2018, 1.00pm @ Avalon Airport Oval

The Hawks have two games left in the season before they commence their finals campaign and they still have the task of securing a top four finish and the coveted double chance. A win last week over Collingwood was just the tonic for the Hawks, but they can't yet afford to relax, as they're fourth only on percentage from Williamstown. In the meantime, Werribee has no chance of playing finals this season, so they're only playing for pride, but they should not be underestimated. Last weekend, they had a very comfortable 47 point win over Coburg (just Werribee's fifth of the season) so odds are they'll be feeling good about themselves.

Box Hill's competitors for a top four finish are in for an interesting weekend, with fifth placed Williamstown playing Richmond at Punt Road Oval at 12.30pm on Saturday, while sixth placed Collingwood are on the road to seventh placed Port Melbourne (both clubs are a game behind the Hawks).

The Hawks have a couple of tough weeks ahead, hosting second placed Casey Demons the following weekend, and then finishing the home and away season against third placed Geelong at Box Hill City Oval, so a win is vital to ensure the Hawks maintain their form.

Teams to follow.

In the meantime, an inaccurate VFLW Hawthorn went down to the Darebin Falcons last weekend by four points, with the Hawks kicking 3.7.25 to Darebin's 4.5.29. The Hawks will have a chance to get back onto the winners' list as they host the Western Bulldogs at Box Hill City Oval on Sunday, 12 August 2018, from 2.00pm. Hawthorn currently sits third following the loss, a game behind the NT Thunder (which has played an extra game compared to Hawthorn) and 1.5 games behind the unbeaten Collingwood. The Bulldogs come into the game in sixth position on the ladder, with six wins from 11 matches.

Teams to follow.

Goal Mirra

Werribee 8.3 (51)
Box Hill 8.8 (56)

Then quick reply from Berry

Werribee 9.3 (57)
Box Hill 8.8 (56)

Then gave away a goal in the scoring of the goal so

Werribee 10.3 (63)
Box Hill 8.8 (56)

Was O’Rourke playing off half back again? Has a high kick to handball ratio and not many touches.

And is that Harry jones with 2 goals 14 touches and 8 marks? Seems a different role than previously played. Good signs if versatile enough to play forward and back (especially as he came to us as a midfielder).

Edit: I assume that isn’t Harry as he also has 9 hitouts :)

A very disappointing loss with our depth being tested. Missing from the selected squad were Pittonet [AFL], Duryea [Presume AFL Spare], Hams [A huge loss] and Brolic. 2017 B & F winner Max Warren and captain for eight games when Dave Mirra was out injured has not played this year after braking his leg late in last year's PF. Andrew Moore suspended and Anthony Brolic injury were second and equal third respectively in the 2017 B & F plus Nelson Lane injury was the 2017 best first year player.
Missing in action therefore Roughead, Sicily, McEvoy, Duryea, Whitecross, Birchall, Howe, Langford, Rioli, Lewis and Jones.
Werribee 5.2-32 8.3-51 10.3-63 15.5-95
Box Hill Hawks 5.2-32 7.5-47 10.8-68 12.9-81

It's difficult to win when six players have under 10 disposals. Walker 9, Willsmore 9, Murphy 8, Ross 7, Burt 4 and Boucher 3. I wasn't at the game so I'm not aware of any possible injuries or restricted game time. A sensational 15 tackles by Michael Knoll and 14 by Mitch Bull O'Donnell. Dave Mirra 4 goals has me intrigued and James Cousins a game high 30 disposals is hammering on the AFL door. Sam Collins is consistently in the best for Werribee and must be a chance for another opportunity in the AFL.

Chris Jones, BHH CHF. Son of Dean Jones IIRC

that can't be right that Chris is the son of Dean Jones he has two daughters , i once was team manager for Dean's footy team at Essex Heights
