All very possible with Essendon. Richmond had not won a final for nearly 6000 days before we won the '17 flag!
Think you’ll find Richmond won a final seven days before they won the 2017 flag you absolute dropkick.

Razz b8

I find that about odd given the amount of time he maps in the backline..

It has been an issue for us generally that was a focus last off season. It was as much about improving the running capacity of Ward, Coniglio, Kelly and Hopper as Shiel though.

If you're determined to pot Shiel look at his TOG stats, often in the seventy percent range. Will be interesting to see what happens at the Bombers. Were we choosing to use him as an impact player?

Bench time is an important resource.

I feel Shiel hangs across half back to get second/third possesion on a turnover. He is a very good footballer but not one that hurts you and I feel is easy to shut down as he is not a dual threat, ground and air. No doubt a very good ground contesting player but not so good in the air.

For me, he is an upgrade on Heppell as they play the same role so not sure how much improvement he will bring the Bombers. I guess if Heppell manages do fill another need in their list then it could improve a fair bit, however with his lack of pace, not sure he could play another role.

If Essendon really wanted to improve into a top 4 team I think they should have spent their money and picks on an inside brut. They lack presence in the contest and in finals, that is telling.

Club was chasing Ollie Wines hard but re-signed with Port

He actually is an inside player, he did move outside the contest last year. He was equal first in 2016 and second in 2017 for clearances.

Good point wonder where Heppell will play. Slow and doesn't have a great kick - not a great player tbh

60 years sounds so much better. I mean geez, that’s a big number.

Let’s try since 1897. Collingwood 15 to Collingwood’s little brother 11!!

Or total home and away attendance’s since 1921 Collingwood 64,082,587 compared to our little brother Richmond despite playing at the mcg 35 years more then the pies 54,807,139!!

Oh and losing to their big brother in the prelim final has really hurt Richmond. Richmond fans making excuses say of Martin had a sore leg and another fringe player had the sniffles boo hoo!!

Collingwood had the biggest injury list in 2019 and we still made the grand final

I’ve never made an excuse. We got beaten on the night. It happens. What amuses me is the offence currently taken by Collingwood supporters when people don’t gush over their ultimately losing season and therefore may not have them pegged as a top 2 prospect this season. The rants are childlike.
2 flags in 60 years. 2. Can’t wait to see you guys sooking it up over a harder draw.....oh wait, it’s already begun.

I haven't seen any Collingwood supporters 'sooking over a harder draw' particularly when we don't know how hard our draw is and won't know until the season plays out.

For example, I'd prefer double up matches against Richnond than at least half a dozen other teams, so wouldn't considering them to be at the 'hard' end of the scale.

But again, we won't know for sure until we see how each team performs in 2019.

Not sure why anyone has a boner about Essendon. Their fans and the media seem to constantly over-rate them.
Can they make the 8? Yes for sure. Maybe even top 6 if they get on a roll.
But top 3. Unlikely.
Unlikely, in the same way that a top 3 finish for either West Coast or Collingwood would have been considered unlikely at the start of the 2018 season.

I’ll go one better and say Richmond, Collingwood, Carlton and Geelong will all be top four at some point this year.

...Carlton better not go ******* scoreless in Round 1. Wouldn’t put it past them.
They won't. R1 is when Carlton unveil their new gameplan where they finally open it up and start scoring. A few weeks later they realise it doesn't work and they roll out the nil-all draw gameplan. My biggest fear in 2019 is letting them score 100 in R1.

I was tipping us to at least finish 2nd but with how we got shafted by the fixture I think 5th or 6th will do us comfortably. Not even mad that we have to double-up against all Preliminary Finalists, just annoyed at how a club who finished 1st on the ladder got virtually a free ticket into the top 4 again. **** us for actually making the grand final right?

Here’s some help.

Pies making a doco not to only copy us again but to celebrate a failed season. To them the season is doco worthy as they "improved" by only beating 1 top 8 side to qualify for the finals. A feat never dobe before.

Eagles won the premership

Tigers won the minor premership

Pies won the bradbury season award lol

'Winning' a minor premiership is better than playing in a Grand Final?

Okay then...
