i get the whole point of roughing up the lower order and unsettling them and whatnot, but also think starc could bowl a fair fewer deliveries if he gets a 151 kph one on the stumps. where has the unplayable yorker gone?

This is great from Starc. Simplify it. Bowl fast, short and go after blokes. Love it. That’s what got Johnson back into form.

Am I hearing the comms correctly? "He doesn't need to worry about seam position or wrist movement, he just has to focus on speed".

That seems like something you should use to shit on a player, not praise them.

I think it's more of "back to basics" and "just play to your strengths" as a bowler, rather than thinking you have to turn yourself into a swing bowler just because you might travel to England once every few years.

Heck at least the West Indies would show more spirit than Sri Lanka right now. Would you see anyone hit a half century off 200 balls?

Hard to have much spirit with the state that they're in, they were better off forfeiting the series with the side they're fielding.

Starc is channelling his inner Johnson earlier day. Bowling peaches mixed with shit.

Said this last game but I wonder if his career will continue to follow a similar path to Johnson's. Fantastic early, struggled to handle the burden of leading the attack, eventual injury, bit of time away and some work with a mentor, return to being almost unplayable.

In the space of an hour this wicket has detoriated into shit. Nothing beating the bat at all.
These wickets kill test cricket, doesn't look like a contest anymore it looks like century if you don't make a mistake
Yeah this pitch is garbage now. What was an exciting first hour is now boring as ****.
If they want test cricket to survive in Australia they can't be playing tests at this ground ever again, diabolical test match wicket that's no contest between bat and ball.

I don't believe after our worst ever batting summer that Burns and Head suddenly worked out how to be world class batsmen
Where's the nuff who said this wasn't a road. 3 centuries in a row now. This pitch is disgustingly bad
Also an absoloute road wicket and we let Starc waste 3 overs with the new ball while cummins stands around
You ready to apologise yet 'champ'
This wicket is terrible and it's not at all a contest between bat an ball.
What I think should happen is they should reduce all test matches to 4 days which will encourage more life in the wickets.

Instead of 5x5 day matches (25 days)
Play 6x4 day test matches (24 days)

There should never be wickets like this again in the future, kids switching on aren't gonna sit and watch wicketless sessions back to back for the love of test cricket.
Why not? Curators have to leave more grass on the wicket and make sure the break up easier. I'd be happy if never saw a team score 500 in a test again. A great test is a wicket where 300 is a good score. That keeps every result in play
From memory there's been 2 plays an missed in the first 15 overs. **** This terrible pitch

Absolutely brilliant work champ keep your spot on comments coming you are an asset to the boards

I know all involved would have had to agree to do it, and I don't like to be "offended on behalf of", but geez that Operation Live show seems uncomfortably exploitative. Is nothing sacred anymore? Is nothing private? Just seems like everything - in this case, a c-section birth - needs to be whored out for ratings, views, likes and followers.

Inb4 "don't like it, don't watch!"
Yeah completely agree, see no appeal in someone’s heart surgery, or a c-section being broadcast on national TV.

He made the same point after the Hughes incident, and without wishing to be disrespectful, if he'd gone back and across for a traditional hook, it's likely he'd still be here.

I blame 2 thinks on the number of players getting hit these days. Firstly, the advent of the helmet has tended to give batsmen a feeling of security when in reality it doesn't really exist. This habit they have these days of turning the head at 90 degrees and taking their eyes off the ball is not a good idea, helmet or not. That one with Perera this morning was a case of him just standing there and letting it hit him. Very stupid thing to do.

Secondly, and here's the problem. Batsmen's techniques are appalling. Due to T20 cricket, they are looking to pull short balls off the front foot, their footwork is all wrong against the short pitched delivery, meaning they don't get inside the line of the delivery. They are manufacturing all sorts of weird strokes in cricket theses days, putting them at increased risk.

Is there any consideration at all that maybe bowlers are better and more willing to bowl bouncers at batsman due to them wearing helmets?
