With the kick in area being moved. I think defencive zones will be moved & modified to accommodate this. The afl may have tweaked the rules but our speed is not something the rule change can remove.....

Kick in rule will help us. Instead of kicking point after point on repeat entries due to their defence being flooded back, they will kick it out and push forward then we'll rebound for easy goals in a more open forward line

Nope, maybe 3 or 4 metres at most before getting closed down and a lot of kick ins were kicked from the safety of the square and all towards the flank direction as per normal. No different to a player kicking to themselves and running a few metres before kicking. Nothing has changed except they don't have to kick to themselves and can just overstep the line with no penalty.

The kick in rule was brought in with the hope teams would launch up the guts with the player on the mark set back to 10m instead of 5m, they even made mention of this last night before the cats game that the hope was to use the corridor, it won't happen and teams will still close down the kick in and it will be easier to defend as the backs wont need to work up as far hence the coast to coast over the back goals will be harder to get from a kick in.
exactly , the net gain will be a few metres . The major diff for us will be the 666 defensive setup , fortunately rance, grimes and astbury are very good one on one , broady pretty good too. Sides that are centre clearance dominant will be dangerous if they have quality forwards to match

Hence that fact it surprises nobody that Dangerfield was on the committee that recommended these rules

Like us :D

Makes me physically ill to admit this but...Collingwood will benefit from this rule as they have a very strong midfield. I feel our game won't be effected either way because much of our attack is built on rebounding out of defence and then locking it into our forward line. Where we will benefit will be from quick turnovers, where we may lose the initial clearance but reclaim the ball on the outside and then boot it quickly into our forwardline. Lynch will mean we transform far more of our initial entries into goals but perhaps not have as much time in our forwardline because of kicking more goals quickly and because we have one less small pressuring their opponents.

All in all, I don't think the rule changes will hurt or benefit us too much. I just think we'll keep winning regardless :D

In the old days, Dimma would leave Dusty one out in the goal square.
Teams will still seek to create clutter and occupy space in the defensive area when they kick in.

I have a feeling that with the Ruck rule and the need for marking power in the center there will be a need for another 195cm+ player in the team
A player that can take a contested mark and relieve in the ruck. If we were 12 months on from now with another year into CCJ / Balta we would be in a real good position to play that extra tall.

Soldo will just not be a viable option with these new rules and the game will evolve into more mobile ruckman that can take marks around the ground and create an option.

What worries me is our best offence in the last two years has relied on running forward in waves, multiple players swarming the ball and working it forward by hand. That requires smaller, quicker, more mobile running types and too many big guys may limit the ability to attack like this.

It will be interesting to see.
Beveridge introduced the running forwards tactic in 2015, people thought it was novel at the time, he refined it in 2016 and achieved success.
We had a close look at his strategy and modified it in 2017.
The new rule on the kick-in means the man on the mark is only five metres further back, it is not a radical change.

Thing is with the new kick in rule, it may affect our repeat entries but dont forget we have one of the best stat wise from kick ins in shorty. With his speed and boot he will clear the wing almost, and that's something weve struggled with
And we now have a CHF that towers over the opppsition as a target rather then having to rely on somebody to make a contest then get the crumbs.

I was looking through last year’s games and the amount of times our behinds kept teams in the game is astonishing. I like how many scoring shots we had, but we really have to improve our kicking for goal. Imagine if Collingwood got off to the start that they did in the PF and we kept up with them through accuracy? Instead, we kick 2.8 to their 10.4 at half time. If it was 8.2 then it would have been viewed as game on.

If it was 8.2 we would have gone on and won imo, and thats impressive considering how shit we played

We clawed it back from 53 to 21 with a mountain of time left on the clock, Rioli then punches the ball into our 50 and it landed straight into pie lap who then transferred down the ground and Trelol kicked one out of his arse, it was like that all night.

It's a problem that most teams have but our kicking certainly was poorer than most last year. For example in Round 17 at GWS away we kicked 10.17 and ended up loosing by 2 points. Idk how you train goal kicking though because it's not our ability that stops us from kicking well it's the fact that a lot of our players shit themselves when they have to take a set shot under pressure. How could you somehow simulate pressure in training to emulate the pressure felt by our players in game to get them used to it.

You would think that but how shocked would you be if i told you Richmond had the 4th best conversion at goal.
