The Laughton Fox article on the fixture is quite good.
The top six teams on average play the hardest double ups, then the middle six, and finally the bottom six.
Melbourne and Hawthorn will face more difficult draws this year.
Looking at the recent history, the premiership team finished outside the top six in the previous year.
Western Bulldogs (seventh), Richmond (13th), WC (seventh), and of course we saw Collingwood almost go all the way.

Caddy and Castagna both with injury concerns.
It will be interesting to see who comes in.

Not really, we had Baker/Townsend/Bolton all play last year in the forward line. Lynch automatically pushes a small bloke out. So the options narrow again.

There's a forwards highlights video posted 6 hours ago on the Tigers website. Shows footage of George. He still in a moon boot?

Fixture is a big talking point, pies in 2018 got a draw the lions, GC and carlton didn't even get and that is two teams from the bottom 3 twice.

My solution is that the 6-6-6 split in regards to double ups should be split even further. 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, 13-15 and 16-18. This gives each group of six the non negotiable minimum 2 doubles ups which then leaves 1 double up to be applied from that group.

Then for the other double up from your group of six it would be to round out the maximum three.

Top 6: 1 v 4, 2 v 5 and 3 v 6
Mid 6: 7 v 10, 8 v 11 and 9 v 12
Bot 6: 13 v 16, 14 v 17 and 15 v 18

Now for the other two double ups outside your group which would be 1 from each group. Below is each playing each other once which gives two double up's which leads to the overall 5.

1 v 7 v 13
2 v 8 v 14
3 v 9 v 15
4 v 10 v 16
5 v 11 v 17
6 v 12 v 18

When applied to Richmond's 2018 season our double up's would be Ade, Gee, GWS, Port and Coll and not st k and ess.

But my method would never be applied because

A: it removes the home state double ups
B: AFL manipulation

That footage is from various sessions over the pre season, as for George who knows as i can't find any updates on him.

For the home state double ups u could just have the 1st lot of 3 & add the double up state games & fill the other spot with a club from a different group

Nope, screw the home state double ups, my system would lead to different double ups each year and the top teams getting hard draws and the bottom teams getting easier draws from each group of 6. Top 3 should never ever play a team from the bottom 3 twice which is what we get this year playing the blues twice.

Our double up's in 2019 under my system would be...West Coast, Collingwood, GWS, N Melb and Brisbane

Under the current system it is...Collingwood, Port Adelaide, GWS, Melbourne and Carlton

It looks like the injury concerns at this stage are Castagna, Caddy, Graham and Lynch.
Moore and Weller would have to be considered, maybe Ross is trialled in a Graham-type role.

Graham is back doing contact work, I think.

Long way out yet. All were involved in the video's on the website, and all looked to be moving pretty well. Lynch probably the furtherest away, and he looks to be moving well.

WC were top 6 after finals though
Otherwise, good point.

Longest post season ever .......

It's time the season started in early March not the end of March, scrap preseason play 1 warmup game then a weeks break and bang get into it.

15mins quarters plus time on, to stop the sooks complaining they play too much footy for the thousands they earn.

Would we get reduced cost memberships, entry, food etc for the reduced product.

Agree

The season should be 34 rounds and play each team 2 times , Shorten the pre season and get rid of the rubbish JLT /AFLX sh!t

My error. West Coast finished eighth in 2017, they scraped into the finals, after Melbourne suffered the humiliating loss in Round 23.
There was huge media hype surrounding Melbourne.
Either way, West Coast was in the second bracket of double ups.
