Conte just didn’t seem settled in London. Appears he was homesick and wanted to settle back in Italy.

For all we know, he was on the shortlist. From memory he parted ways with Chelsea at the end of last season.

Which coincides with the time we were full steam ahead with the recruitment of Wenger’s replacement.

Lies during his interview? Curious about this, what happened here?

From all reports Emery wasn't a serious candidate for the job until he had a last minute interview where he supposedly blew everyone away with what he had to say. In particular he impressed those in charge based on the playing style he wanted to use i.e. attacking football and his knowledge of youth players but based on what Im seeing Im questioning whether he actually was committed to doing what he said or whether he told them they wanted to hear in order to get the job.

Let's hope he wasn't available, because if he was and our board opted for Unai Emery over him they're even more inept than I thought.

Based on what? You keep saying this without anything backing it up.

Based on ******* what?

People riding Tuchel's dick despite having achieved literally **** all yet Emery is a shit manager because......reasons?

Pep turned down United and wasn't going anywhere that wouldn't back his ideals with hundreds of millions $$$.
Allegri wasn't leaving eazy-mode Juventus.
Jardim was sacked with Monaco 3rd last in the league but yeah.....
Nagelsmann has barely started his coaching career
Eddie ******* howe

Feel confident based on what?

Arteta has literally no experience as a manager yet you "feel" a lot more confident he can achieve those 'benchmarks'. You get the "vibe" about Arteta hey?

Everyone hating on Emery left-right and center but when asked who would do better start throwing up these magical unicorns.

His record speaks for it self and it really isn't at all impressive. Outside of winning 3 Europa league titles against incredibly average opponents, he has achieved nothing of note. Could make a good argument his greatest achievement is losing a one horse race during his time in France.

Yeah I do get the vibe that Arteta has what it takes to be a manager at a big club. From the way he is spoken about by Pep and Wenger to him taking coaching sessions of the U21/18's whilst still a player at the club, I get the impression he is very astute and has what it takes to become an elite manager. Emery should be managing the likes of Everton who are on his level.

"Outside of."

Outside of Arsenal's EPL titles and FA Cup trophies we haven't really won much at all.

Emery isn't a top level manager, doesn't like dealing with top level players, the sooner we realise this the better, unless of course we're content with being a 6th placed Europa League team which wouldn't surprise me under Stan.

Will take your word for it Tom, I wasn’t aware he came in so late in the picture.

My understanding was he was in the framework during the process and presented exceptionally well. Can’t pinpoint exactly where I read it (Ornstein perhaps), but from what I read he put forward a detailed analysis on every player in the squad and wanted to design a style of play around Ramsey.

Best laid plans don’t always come to fruition. We don’t know excactly what has happened with Ramsey (the truth usually comes out afterwards, am sure he’ll open up about it after he’s left Arsenal). For all we know, Ramsey told Emery early on the piece that he’s out. Again, I can only speculate.

However, one has to be careful about labelling this as lies. If he’s put forward presentations on how he wants to set up, style of play etc, it’s likely because he genuinely believes what he’s saying. If it doesn’t succeed, I don’t believe it’s fair to label it as lies to begin with.

For example, Wenger on numerous occasions in recent seasons spoke about the squad being good enough to challenge for the title. It’d be unfair to consider that as lies, I’d say he was simply stating what he believes at the time.

Failing to deliver an outcome doesn’t necessarily make one a liar.

There’s so much more to it than just “sign that manager, he’s better than Emery”.

It was inevitable that Conte would leave Chelsea. Most in the football world knew it was a matter of time. However, if he was to walk and accept another job (ie, Arsenal) this would impact his contractual obligations to Chelsea and mean no payout.

Chelsea probably wanted him to walk, and terminate the agreement. Would’ve saved them a lot of money. However, Conte likely knew he was going to be sacked if he just waited long enough. Gets a few more million £ to take back home and settle in Italy.

Context is important when simply picking a manager’s name out of a hat and saying “we should have got him”.

You're talking to much sense, Glen.

I am not too happy with Emery at the moment, but whatever logic you throw up, the Anti-Unai's will find whatever they can (no matter how weak it is), to rebut your logic.
Seconded. Glen speaking all the sense.

Another injury to Koscielny, damn. Was it his ankle again?

Genuinely forgot Hleb is still playing, for some reason thought he retired a few years ago.

Looks like a left calf for Kos. Can be long term injury for older guys.

I like your post better.

I've been crunching the numbers and it looks like Mustafi has scored the same number as goals as he has given up.
