I can't go with Harry up forward...frankly Henderson would be a better choice....anyway, Hawkins will be CHF....Sav to FF...

I saw somebody suggest Blicavs as a relieving second ruck. Glad the razor blades weren't handy....

I liked what I saw with Miers....watch him closely against the Dons....Stanley is a lock for first ruck...I hope they play Abbott (if he's fit ) and Fort against the Dons and see who performs against Bellchambers and Clarke....the better performer gets a guernsey....if Abbot isn't ready and Fort doesn't perform, sadly Sav will be a back up to Stanley.

Clark will play round....I suspect Constable also...

Rubbish. He was awful. Played one good game against Richmond and then got appropriately towelled by Rance in the first final. He’s also a horrific shot for goal.

Did he not create multiple options on the lead, and as often as not, take a mark??

H

How quickly some forget?! He was maligned all 2017 and Chris Svott was ridiculed for picking him to play forward week after week.

The fact he was maligned is beside the point.....sone have agendas.

Did he provide a point of difference in being someone who led to the ball?

Even though the backline performed well in terms of points conceded last season I think we will see a lot of change in 2019
The Clark selection and the way we moved the ball at times V Eagles suggests we are going to attack with quick ball movement - to do that we can't be as top heavy as we were last season
I think the mediums will be out of Stewart /Bews/Clark / Tuohy and Henry as the interceptor - all 5 could play at times
The talls get down to Blitz as the lock with only one of Taylor/Hendo and Kolo making 2 talls plus Henry as the interceptor/ 3rd tall
I really worry about Taylor - he looked in very good nick but whist he never looks athletic his running looked very , very laboured to be honest.
I'd go with 4 mediums ( 3 plus one on bench) , with 2 talls and Henry :)
With true respect, as I rate your comments, but Harry playing in the first 10 minutes of a practice game, then off with a head injury- that's a bit light on for assessing his running for the season.
Mackie, for instance used to look horrid until about round 2 or 3.

Fair call Vdubs but the group I was with all commented on how awkward he looked in the warm up and running onto the ground- and we are all huge Harry fans
I hope we’re mistaken as he really looked lean , defined and great shape body wise

I really dont think Taylor enjoyed playing forward..he never really looked comfortable having a shot at goal.
He's had a couple of good days with the boot,5.1 against the Dog and 5.0 V crows, harry always looks a bit unco, a bit like SJ in that respect.

Hey lads,
interested to know what ruck combination you guys will start off with this year and also what the best ruck structure if everyone was healthy would be?

Stanley in the ruck, Sav pinch hitting in the ruck while playing mostly up forward.

Other combinations might and probably will be tried, but that's the single most likely.

So round 1 not far away. Right now the team I'd pick would be:

Kolo - Blicavs - Taylor
Stewart - Henderson - Bews
Duncan - Dangerfield - C Guthrie
Ablett - Hawkins - Parfitt
Rohan - Ratugolea - Dahlhaus
Stanley - J Selwood - Kelly
Clark - O'Connor - Menegola - Henry

I've left Tuohy and cockatoo out assuming they won't get up and could definitely use some VFL time first up.

Narkle is my most unlucky. I'd be tempted to drop one of the taller defenders for him. He's a talent and will get a lot of games when some injuries hit.

Atkins right now is like Dahlhaus but with less ball winning ability and not as good hands. He could come in at some point but I'm backing Dahlhaus to be a better option to start with.

Constable will also get games through the year but I'm not convinced he's got anything at this stage to make him stand out at AFL level. There was plenty of accumulation against the Eagles but not a lot of hurt factor and some of his decision making with the ball was too conservative. With us having a lot of midfield depth it's hard to get him time in there where he's at his best.

Scott Selwood has been a good servant and is an underrated player but I think the inclusion of starting zones will really hurt him. It's time for others younger players to take on the leadership mantle that he showed.

Clark, O'Connor and Henry have all shown high top end talent and that puts them a cut above other fringe players for spots in the 22 for mine. Narkle is similar and that's why he'd be my first cab off the rank.
Let's try and keep the dumbcampaignerery to a minimum today, eh?

Elliot, Stephenson, DeGoey and the rest of the Pies fleet footed forwards will be licking their lips.

Is the name calling really necessary?

If only we had some sort of evidence to go back to of how that defence might go. Like say the game last year where we played almost exactly the same defence and kept them to their lowest score of the season? Or would that be too "dumbcampaignerery"?

The pies couldn't buy a goal in that game. We were without Hawkins and Stanley, maybe that's the secrete leave them two out again. No going back 12 months can't be relied on to back up an argument.
