If they had t.lynch playing it would force tob/brand/mirra to play on riewoldt in the season proper.

Great signs for us really we have so much more upside with our inclusions to come back in the first month of the season .

I disagree our young players are not ready cousins, scrimshaw, hanrahan will all play senior footy this yr.

P.s Worpedo might be a bonafide midfielder at this rate buy the end of the season. The S.mitchell influence wow.

Good workout for the Hawks especially in the first half when Hawthorn fielded their stronger side.
Really disappointed in TOB and Mirra they would have cost us 3-4 goals and are not up it when the pressure is on, only depth players.

Does anybody know where or what's wrong with Daniel Howe, is he injured ?

James Frawley can also be very frustrating sometimes. does some really good things and then he makes some really bad errors which will cost us goals.

We knew most of this already but...
Scrimshaw will have an impact in 2019. As will Cousins
Most of Box Hill graduates are still a way off
Lewis will be good, it maybe not until 2020
Frawley is our only AFL standard key defender.
Rough will be better without the Captancy
Ceglar will take a while to get back to his best

I actually had Scrimshaw in my Round 1 team and copped quite a bit of flack, hopefully he's proved a few people wrong tonight.

Really disappointed in Tim O'Brien, Mitch Lewis being ahead of him speaks volumes. A healthy Birch will make me feel much better.

The Good,

Lewis (did he play second half after the first 15 mins?) Scrimshaw, JOM (Was he asked not to play/try second half?) Brand. and quite a few others... Rough not being the first target up forward... notice not so much when Lewis was rested. Impey and Smith fine.

The worries... I'm gonna start with Stratton terrible go get a mullet if that's what you need zero leadership but ZERO third man in all game. You've never done much more apart from third man in's and the occasional cameo's (and there is nothing wrong with that as a role player) but if you give up on that in an entire game... mmm. Hardwick somewhat but you've got a second in the b and f as almost unknown player with a mullet and your a lot younger than your captain then maybe ok and very late you woke up. Shiels he's obviously pissed he didn't get captaincy as he would have any other year, looked disinterested at best but if he got it ok. Cousins... ran out of juice 5 minutes into the third... thought they were going to call an ambulance to resuscitate him. He's a superstar VFL footballer but if he has no tank he couldn't replace anybody at AFL level. We have to be honest at this, if they think he can build a tank then yes he's quality. If he can't he's Billy Swan. McEvoy the new ruck rules hurt him more in the centre as we can't cover his shortness with an extra one down back. (Not a lot he can do with that unless someone reinvents a rack to stretch him out)

Overall happy with the game gave me a lot more confidence than before. We are a chance if we a re lucky, we are definite chance with the 5 all aussies missing... if Mitchell comes back late we are almost a 2016 Bulldogs chance. (Even their most ardent supporter admits it was the assiest GF of all time... shit before, limped into finals, shithouse since.)

Anyway a few annoyances but overall good. Oh have we changed forward coaches? Our score conversion to inside 50's would have won us into last year's GF in the first half and goal wise even better... in fact would have won us the 2012 GF just based on accumulated points.

Anyway overall good.

The swing in the game happened when TOB and Mirra came on. Completelychanged how our backline functioned (or failed to function).

The end result isn't important but I'm not confident we have much backline depth if any of Stratton Frawley Brand or Sicily get injured.
Wholeheartedly agree. We can possibly cope with one of them coming in but not both. Especially if either are replacing Sicily.

Was a praccy match .

We looked great in the first half and you could argue we tinkered in the 2 nd half and could have made moves in the 2nd half and didn’t .

Who knows how seriously the Tigs took it .

Both sides would be happy with the hit out .

Add those to the simple goals Smith, Bruest and Rough cost us!

What about Sicily?

To be fair to Cousins we sent Worpel forward and O'Meara off in the third. He was forced to combat Martin/Cotchin/Prestia with only Sheils as support. I'm surprised he didn't need an ambulance.

I don’t mean just for tonight’s game but in general. TOB has been given plenty of chances, sadly I just don’t think he’s good enough.

Yeah I get you. His only hope IMO is to make it as a 2nd tall defender which is looking unlikely

I really liked Hanrahan tonight on limited minutes.
Thought he showed lots of speed and confidence, pretty clean with the ball and wasn't out of place at all.
For mine he gets a run before Moore.

Expected more from Stratts tonight as Capitano. Didn't go for many marks, looked kinda nervy throughout play.
Ah well, onward and upward. Lots of good play and players tonight, not bothered by the final score.

The kid a gun has the footy smarts and nous! He ahead of Moore don't be surprised if he starting on the field half way thru the season.

AFL.COM has Scrimshaw with 2 clearances from the centre square (3 in total). Is that right... did Clarko put him in there?

If it is true, it is very encouraging.

Well all in all I think you’d have to be pretty happy with that effort. There’s no 4 points on offer so there’s nothing truly meaningful to take from the result itself, except no big injuries, glimpses of young guys showing good signs.
For me the highlight was Jaegar will arrive this season (health permitting).
He is fit, confident and has taken the onfield mantle of being the teams leader.
Lewis showed he can play a role, there’s still some way to go but he can do it at the level.
Worpels back this season with improved fitness. Love his mongrel throwing Houli around and outmarkinh him, tree trunk legs on the kid.

Morrison a quiet pre season to date in the praccy games.
I don’t see what others see in Nash, he is definitely an athlete of some sort but I don’t think it’s a footballer. Reminds me of Karmichael Hunt at the Suns.
Timmy O lacks the confidence to make it at the level. I’m sure we will see him pop up during the season, I wish him the best of luck and I truly hope he can find a place and develop some confidence.
