Thats why Hamilton is an all time great (if not the greatest) when it comes to qualifying.

I have been on the Lando bandwagon for a while now. Great to see him do well
Not and never the greatest, but not far off.

In qualifying though ?
Holds the poles record, and seems to be able to pull it out of the bag like few others in Q3.
(Hard to judge everyone on qualifying though given how the format has changed over time)

Senna is by far the best qualifier we've seen.

Interesting table:

So Renault actually improved almost a full second from last year, which is better than Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull. Trouble is the other midfield teams made even bigger improvements and relegated Renault down the pecking order.

Going to be an interesting midfield battle this season.

Going to be very close.

The gap from 7th to 14th is pretty tight. You'd expect Gasly to fly through the field today but the interesting thing will be how he deals with the expectation.

He SHOULD finish top 6 still, but has made the odd mistake.

That will largely depend on how effective the rule changes have been in allowing closer following.

After all, wasn't the fact that there were only 5 real over takes here last year the reason for the rule changes?

Yesterday on the telecast they were talking about the new aero rules, and saying that they were brought in to make sure it didn't get harder to follow. Apparently the way that aero designs were going, it was going to become harder each year to follow cars.

So these rules at the very minimum will make it no harder than it was last year, but it remains to be seen if there is an improvement.
