No, I don't think we can.
Buzza won't make it, Henry is too small and a better defender.
The only way we can replace Hawkins would be through FA and we simply won't have the currency available (or for a trade) to bring a decent one in.
So for that reason Sav MUST be a forward.

Its hard to dismiss that pov with the players we currently have on our list... not having seen enough of NK. Id say we just have to try get another sav at some stage as I cant see us getting an early pick any time soon.

But for the moment ... to me not picking Buzza will say more than platitudes about his future that CS was saying the other day. He is the logical replacement if Sav is not fit. Keep the balance of the side the same and just replace one for the other... and tell him to compete and crunch packs

Fort was very good in the VFL on Friday according to someone's opinion I rate. Reckons he'll fit into the system seamlessly once he gets a few games under his belt and feels he belongs.

Fwd/ruck might be a better position for him than starting as a pure ruck ala the JLT as well. A bit less pressure/consequence for losing a contest.

If Savs out I have a feeling Taylor will start forward and play as the 2nd ruck. I can't see any of Blicavs, Henry, Taylor, Kolodjashnij or Henderson playing VFL and this way it assures they're all picked in the side.

well its all up from the wc game
I was very down on his WC performance but he was, by reports, impressive for the rest of the summer so I’m going to reserve opinion for a couple more sightings.

CE far from me to scub someone cause they had a poor first time out in the hoops... he just looked like he was over awed a bit .. but what I didnt like was they way he was moved out of the contest in the boundary contests .. I though he needed a bit of time in gym etc. Abbott has had multiple years to build up and is apparently looking in good shape.

It would put more pressure on Forts performance..if he had a bad one against the Pies..we would be starting to think about denting his confidence

We will need a second ruck...
Who plays on Cox when he is at FF?
If it's Blicavs, maybe he follows Cox around every where, including ruck; Stanley on Grundy everywhere?

Blitz at FB .. he is tall by todays standard... over to you dual B&F winner. Cox around the ground is less dangerous.

You were saying 2 rucks. So if Cox is their # 2 ruck, why not Blic go with him? We'd be top heavy with a second ruck after Stanley and Blic? And I say this assuming no Savrat.

Stanley in ruck
Sav ute ruck .. or someone else.

Id prefer a settled backline as much as possible. Injuies in game happen but we should plan that its Blitz at FB

On Cox?
So who gets Cox around the ruck contests? Stanley for 120 mins? And again, if Sav is not in. The balance changes in our favour if he plays.
I thought Abbott in if no Sav, but not sure now. We will need lots of runners.

Because Grundy up forward is even more dangerous than Cox, and probably too agile for Harry.

Stanley follows his man . We don't have much class otherwise.

Does it matter who covers for Savs 3 hit outs, just replace him with Buzza and maintain a balanced side.

Covering his ruck work isn't the issue. It's his forward work that we can't cover properly. Fort and Abbott haven't shown any ability up there and Buzza at the moment is a poor imitation.

Sav was coming back from injury and Hawkins missed JLT 1 yet Buzza still didn't even get game time in the JLT. That shows he must be a long way back. It's much more likely we do what we did last year when Hawkins or Sav missed early in the year which was let Blicavs or Henry chop out in the ruck and go in with a smaller lineup.

I'll say this though. If they pick Buzza off no preseason time because Sav misses round 1 then it's horrendous player management. If he was remotely in the plans he had to play JLT and Sav missing games after coming back from a broken leg would hardly be the biggest shock ever.

To be fair to Buzza he was more recently injured than Sav was. And I bet if they knew ahead of time that Hawk wasn't going to play vs West Coast ahead of time they would have brought Buzza along even just to see how he goes.

I'm not trying to criticize Buzza. It's absolutely possible that the club wants to ease him into the season after a slow preseason. But given they've chosen that option then picking him for round 1 would be crazy and exceptionally harsh on Buzza to throw him into a huge match off only VFL practice matches.

If they didn't seriously consider what happens round 1 if Sav is unavailable they're idiots. And if their solution to that possibility was selecting Buzza off no preseason games they're also idiots. Unlike some around here I don't think our coaching staff are idiots so I think the chances of Buzza playing are zero barring some catastrophe with our forwards.

I reckon the 3 main targets up forward will be Hawkins Rohan and Ablett if Sav misses the game,Buzza would only be in the forward line to try and cause some kaos under the long bomb they won't be using him as a prime target and do minimal ruck work hopefully plus he'd be insurance if Stanley goes down early.I wouldn't expect Buzza to set the world on fire it's more about not having to pull Blits out of FB to fight a losing battle in the ruck.Abbott Fort Buzza flick a coin.
