My 22 for Friday:

FB: Clark - Blicavs - O'Connor
HB: Henry - Taylor - Stewart
C: Duncan - Danger - Selwood
HF: Dahlhaus - Hawkins - Menegola
FF: Rohan - Esava - Ablett
Fol: Stanley - Kelly - Parfitt
Int: Abbott - Atkins - Narkle - Guthrie

- Guthrie as a small defender and only in due to injuries to Bews/Tuohy
- only 1 of Taylor/Hendo/Kolo to play with BLicavs & Henry who are locked.
- Go with 2 rucks rather than Esava relief to keep him in the forward 50

Thats the way I see it. I have not seen Buzza this year..certainly the last game he played in seniors was poor and he showed poor marking hands.. but Id ask just for him to compete , bust packs etc when forward ..and chip in with a goal if he gets a chance. It only takes one pass and mark on the chest to get a shot at goal... but he is mainly there to give a break to Stanley in the ruck.
We have better smalls now tell them get around Buzza he mite have droped easy marks but he did bring it to ground a lot and that night he had 2 great taps in the ruck but not many would have seen that

I have him in my top 4 or 5 for importance just not Carji last year,on one proviso it's still picked on best and fairest. Is there a problem with that.

None at all. They're all just opinions. Was simply pointing out that there's only two seasons in the last six where you don't rate the Carji as a gauge. Which happen to be the same two years Blitz won it.

Anyway, who would you have had in front of him last year for the medal?

For the meat tray:

O'Connor - Blicavs - Kolo
Henderson - Taylor - Stewart
Duncan - Selwood - Guthrie
Parfitt - Hawkins - Ablett
Rohan - Ratugolea - Dahlhaus
Stanley - Dangerfield - Kelly

Atkins - Henry - Clark - Menegola

Constable to come in if Esava doesn't get up.

Prediction: Thursday melts over the selection (especially defence). A close game Friday night with us running away from them in the second half.

The obvious one being Dangerfield who I thought had cleared out,I thought Hawkins would have polled better,a bit undisciplined at times, throw a blanket over Blits,Selwood,Kelly and Stewart.

One of Kolo or Henderson out and Constable in and I'm happy good side

No, I don't think we can.
Buzza won't make it, Henry is too small and a better defender.
The only way we can replace Hawkins would be through FA and we simply won't have the currency available (or for a trade) to bring a decent one in.
So for that reason Sav MUST be a forward.
We may get Oscar Allen in a Kelly trade

I actually thought Danger was lucky to poll as well in the B&F as he did. I can't think of a single game except the last round against the truly horrendous Suns that he tore apart whereas he was doing that every few weeks in his first 2 years with us. He also had perhaps his worst game ever in the final.

The bar is set to a different level for the champions.

Fair enough.

I thought Blitz just about played his role to perfection every week, where Danger did have his moments (both awesome and ordinary).

Would agree that Paddy is sometimes marked hard now, though, based on his overall elite output since heading home.

We will need both at their best and a few others to get the chocolates Friday night, first up games can throw up some funny results, expect the unexpected, can't wait.

We may get Oscar Allen in a Kelly trade

Oscar would be a good get , however he's very highly rated by them as a 3rd tall - he's around 192cm IIRC
Brander is another but at 195cm he could be the Kennedy replacement so once again could be a tough assignment.
More likely Venables if a player is involved - if Kelly returns then they probably need him less as a mid?

If Buzza is our best replacement we are in trouble his marking is awful and he rucks poorly its Spencer and Matt McCarthy all over again.

I get your point re Blitz although I think its the best of a bad lot of options this week. We have the KPDs to cover.

We will want to play 1 ruck all year as Stanley is a crap fwd which means the load of being KPF and backup ruck all year will be big on Sav. Really one of Henderson Taylor or Henry needs to play fwd at times to give Sav a break so we dont burn him out. I dont like any of those options but they are far better than Buzza or Abbott (good ruck poor fwd) and thats where we are IMO.

Dont think we need a venables. We already have enough mids.
Cocky, Parfitt, Narkle, Fogarty, Constable, plus the usual.

Blicavs well and truly deserved the Carji last year and was my pick before the count.

Hmm, something tells me Kolodjashnij will be a walk up starter.

You're probably right LD , was thinking more about who West Coast would offer rather than what we needed.
Hopefully we can get a good deal on pick(s) if Kelly leaves - even better if Freo get involved as they need mids far more than their cross town rivals :)

Maybe the fact that they rested him for JLT2 and didn't think he even needed to play.
It would be surprising if he is left out.

Did he play VFL?
He hardly played V Eagles - he came off early in the game after a contest with what looked to be a high quad/groin - had a long chat with the physio and went into the rooms and didn't come back on the field.
Could be injured?

Could be, but for the 2nd game they definitely listed him as "Managed".

Tom Hawkins. Thought he was a very good chance for both our Best and Fairest and All Australian selection. Ended up with neither.
