Fight at last nights Carlton vs Richmond game

I am not naming names but IMHO some club(s) tend to have supporters that are violent thugs, jail birds types. Check out brawls and bashings in footy games and find the link.

$300 fine for that? That guy should be banned from attending AFL ever again. I'm not sure I'd ever take my kids to the footy again if we were sitting near this incident. AFL need to make an example of this guy.

Let's not forget it was just last year a 47 year old supporter in round 1 said to hardwick "not so easy to win here is it" while remaining in his seat and hardwick approached him and the afl said the "incident will be looked into" and the fan was threatened with a lifetime ban. But I guess when you say a harmless comment to "one of their own" it's a chargeable offence, but if you Knock out some "nobody" your free to go. In the afls eyes.

Anyone who has gone to an away game vs Richmond would know their supporters are a different breed. Very uncomfortable atmosphere
Anyone who has been going to the footy would know this (fights) has been a common thing for decades - only becoming captured now due to social media. Australian media have turned a blind eye to it for years as the are on the AFL take. I know some who worked for VicPol for years and AFL violence was a weekly occurrence and would be assigned as "print to media" every time but Newscorp and Fairfax would ignore the reports... Coincidentally they had the complete opposite approach to soccer reports.

The AFL no longer have that luxury with social media.

Happens every game? Does it really?
I've only ever witnessed one scuffle at an AFL ground. It was in Hobart between too Norths supporters over an insult to an elderly father. Clearly had nothing to do with the footy but was an ongoing feud.

Doesn't excuse what happened but I really like attending the G with a big crowd. Given how small our numbers always are there that requires some confidence.

I seem to remember a game down in Geelong only last year...

lol, did you actually watch the vision of that one. Fat drunks throwing punches, nothing connecting, blokes falling over, tripping over, one bloke on top of another while another extended his foot and tried to use it to push the bloke on top off.

Headline :

'Wild brawl, punches thrown, kicking involved, embarrassment to the game.'

Was literally the worst / weakest attempt of a fight I'd ever seen and people on here were seriously calling for games not to be played at Kardinia Park again as a result.

Society and the media are farked!

It's surprising how prevalent these kind of things have become in recent times. Is it because people have more access to film and report fights like these compared to ten, twenty years ago, or are there really people who decide to punch on at the footy?

Like pretty much everyone, I've been angry at the footy before, both at my team, the umpires, and irritating opposition supporters, and I just tend to either bite my lip (literally) or scrunch my scarf up. But full on knocking someone down and continuing to hit them on the concrete is not on

There were more fights in the past, in my experience.

In the 80's and 90's there was a scuffle at most of the games i attended (i wasn't the common factor).

My point was that every club has dickheads who cause incidents like this. Granted, my club seems to find itself in quite a few of them, but let's not pretend it any clubs don't have to deal with this rubbish.

Not condoning it whatsoever, it's an embarrassment for the club in question and needs to be stamped out.

The Security at the cricket are *******s and on a power trip. I've heard of many getting kicked out for doing nothing wrong at all, like you did with the beach ball.
Boxing Day test last year them and the police were escorting people out the back and giving them warnings or fines for sculling drinks

Fat drunks throwing punches can still end incredibly badly. Niave to play down the severity of incidents like that in crowded places.

Is a $322 fine far enough? Bloke could have been killed. Surely needs criminal charges laid?

Funny how I once got a fine for $343 which is more than that for picking up my mobile and checking who texted me while stationary at a traffic light.

I guess I'm deemed the bigger menace to society for that than this bloke. Victoria is a nanny state for a lot of things, but soft on violent crime and its incredibly frustrating.

Lot of ignorant and loud opinions.

There was no further police action because the victim chose not to pursue the matter, has nothing to do with Victoria.

Dunno, got heaps more members than the other clubs so I guess our idiot minority is going to be much bigger too
I remember actual big games against Essendon and Collingwood where i never saw as much trouble as i do at Richmond games. If any. So yeah nah

Richmond won in Round 1 last year... against Carlton. How could you forget that-- you started a bloody thread about it two days ago.

If you are going to complain about something, at least get your facts right.
