Seriously. You and plugger etc are absolutely kidding yourselves. Appreciate you have a role at the club, but if you are willing to accept that level of performance then enjoy the next 55 years without success to go with the previous 55.
We were absolutely pathetic today. Billed as being the fittest side in the comp and then nearly turned it up against a side that’s largely regarded as the worst since Fitzroy. Not only that they were effectively down two players.
I’d love nothing more than watching us turn it around, but being happy with that absolute trash? Give me a spell. You reckon the successful clubs would be pissanting round, being happy with that tripe? Absolutely not.
I like to express my opinion every now and again. We were good in the first half, poor in the second half. But it's Round 1. Look at WCE, they lost to a bottom four team. But it doesn't define their season and this game won't define ours.

I am more interested in how we are fairing during the bye week. Round 1 is always a mixed bag, people need to relax. I'm glad we came out of it on the right side.

Was just having a quick read on the Bombers board because I am avoiding work and (more importantly) watching their arrogant self righteous fans suffering is fun.

Anyhoo, I just came across this (not sure if legit but WOW). I know we have some structural issues to address, but when selecting the side I have this sudden urge to stack our team with speed and run

We should really keep that for perspective when we think some of our players might be phoning it in

After reading the last 3 or 4 pages of this thread there’s no doubt that you guys down in VFL land think we are total garbage
If we won I’d have ordered in Uber Eats and had a scotch.

We are used to seeing garbage, nothing personal, we're just experts ;)

Was wondering about Savage. He's in my SC team because he does kick ins and seemed to be the overlap runner from half back. I don't think I saw him do that at all. Most of his disposals were the kick ins. Good coaching because that was a big part of our attack in the pre-season. Who was on him?

I don't know the players from Goldy but noticed he couldn't get space at all, someone was always blocking and hassling him.

But then again who knows, maybe Gold Coast are better than we think, like North last year. Probably not, but maybe this was their GF.

I said the same thing during that last 1/4 and after the game.......Gold Coast may be better than their dismal 2018....maybe we were under rating them and over rating our selves.....we'll find out.

That IMO was a very ordinary performance....yes we got the points but it does make me wonder where we're going.

On the 3 occasions that we went out to a 2-3 goal lead....we just couldn't go on with it.

Early days but I'm flat as a tac at the moment.

Parker was a big plus for me...….so was battle.

Some of the decision making during the game was mind boggling.

Another big plus was that the Bombers....Bloos and Pies all lost on the weekend......I'll take that thank you very much.

Given the number of upsets this round, you have to be happy with a win. The opening round is so hard to predict, and we got away with one a bit there after trailing late in the last quarter. Fought out the last minute well and won some important contests.

Firstly, have to say how absolutely massive Jack Steven was for us. Coming back from a mental health break, probably still dealing with it in some way and hasn't been training as much as the others, but he willed us over the line today and was absolutely immense.

The other big up goes to Matty Parker, what a legend and what a first game. Can't wait to see what he can do as he becomes more familiar with the level.

It was a strange game because we played well at times but then struggled at others. The second quarter was fantastic, then the first half of the third we dominated without putting a score on the board. Then the Suns came back hard and it was an arm-wrestle from then on.

We really struggled with clearances. I thought that not only did we lose a lot of important clearances, but the clearances we won often didn't result in a good kick forward, so they weren't as good as the Suns clearances. The Suns were able to take it away easily from stoppages so often and it hurt us. In the last quarter they must have had about 10 inside 50s in a row!

On that note, the defence did quite well to stand up. I liked the look of Battle and Joyce back there. MacKenzie was ok at times too, Jimmy good. Callum Wilkie looked pretty great too for his first game! Would still love to get Hind in there for his run, but all in all they stood up well considering it was down there a LOT.

I'd like to see Marshall come in. Pierce with 6 possessions is a big issue for us, I really like Marshall around the ground and he can go forward and back and take marks. I would think that Marshall is a definite in next week, should have played this game really.

Look, it probably wasn't the margin we were hoping for, but at this stage of the year we just don't know what will happen. The Eagles got spanked last night by Brisbane. Freo are beating North, Dogs beat the Swans... basically people's expectations can be wrong. We are where we were last year, a win in round 1, but what's important now is how we back it up. Can't wait for the Bombers game next weekend, which offers a chance at redemption from last years round 2 capitulation.

That is a stat I've never seen before, pretty amazing

It's the AFL nothing would surprise me.

I have a massive negative:
Getting sunburnt!

After the Dogs won the GF with a free run from umps, I think they umpire to a narrative. Otherwise just take bribes to set margins from bookies.

I wonder who comes out for Brown because I was really happy with Joyce and Wilkie to be honest

Wilkie probably goes because he's a bit smaller. Joyce is a big boy.

Btw anyone saying Long should be dropped needs to have a long hard look at themselves.
He and Parker basically kept us in the game in the first half, without their efforts in f50 and without long spending time as the lead up forward we would have been 5 or 6 goals down at half time and prob out of the game

Also regarding Long - I love his aggression, cost us a goal with the reverse free and got a bloke high in a tackle. But I love that he has some aggression and c*** in him. Same with Parker. Feel like we’ve lacked this for a few years.

Loved watching Billings get involved in the push and shove down forward as well. Started with Parker I think and Billings was quickly in there being quite aggressive.

Hope Long doesn’t get scolded too badly. Did the wrong thing, yes. But was a pretty soft free kick tbh.

The changes I’d make:

Marshall for Pierce
Acres for Dunstan
Brown for Wilkie
Clark for Kent

Young for Kent
Acres would have to be for Mc Kenzie or someone who deserves to stay in and
Hunter for Dunny?

that concerns me. were the dons phoning it, so they can smash us the week after?

A fair bit of beating up on George.

Not cool.

Yeah, George is a great mod because he's reasonably permissive and not officious. Taking advantage of him being nice is just shitty and not in your own interest.

Can't imagine that's legit

The kent gave me an infraction yesterday, but this whole potting because he is a mod and therefore has an agenda is poor form IMO.
