lol. Went from sick man of Europe to being fastest growing country. Hardly all due to oil, in fact receipts dropped off quite a bit after early years.

As for internal insurgency - well the IRA are absolute filth, we all know that.

BREXIT derangement syndrome. Its a thing.

"Fastest growing" - it was in recession in 1990. You really do make this shit up as you go along

The Ra may have done some awful things, but that border is still the biggest problem Brexit has.

Also, Brexit derangement syndrome - tell us again how Brexit will be so simple, how the UK holds all the cards.

It's a sideshow at this stage, but Brexit may well be the impetus for a second Scottish referendum considering Scottish areas largely voted remain.

The British government sponsored and directed the use of death squads against innocent Catholics in Northern Ireland. This started before Thatcher and continued after she left, indeed some of the current DUP parliamentary representation were involved in organisations that smuggled weapons into NI that were used in some of the massacres. Sammy Wilson hosted the UVF Brigade Staff when he was Mayor of Belfast, and shared platforms with Billy Wright, King Rat, a notorious paramilitary from Portadown. Lord McCrea (appointed to the upper house in the life of the current parliament) was linked to the Glennane gang, members of the UDR and RUC, who were responsible for atrocities like the Miami Showband massacre and the Dublin / Monaghan bombings (in which my grandfather was almost killed). That’s before considering the fact that MI6 ran highly placed agents within the IRA that directed terrorist activities. The IRA itself is a (rightly) discredited organisation but it didn’t come to existence in a vacuum and was sustained by the activities of Crown Forces against the Catholic population.

Australia was in recession in 1990 as was the US

The mid to late 80s were a boom time in the UK.

Really? In Glasgow? Liverpool?

As I said, a certain class of professional parasite did well stealing from the nation.

As recent weeks have amply demonstrated, this class of person is generally rather dim, and relies on other people actually being at work and looking the other way when they commit their common theft.

Btw - how's Brexit going old bean? Meant to be yesterday wasn't it?

May now wants a fourth vote. Yet the people are only allowed one. Hypocrisy.

Meh. The only reason she was allowed to have the third one as far as I know was because it was separated from the political declaration.

Majorities in Parliament could be found for either of a couple of other options if cabinet was given a free vote. May’s deal with a confirmatory referendum with remain as the other option could get up, and so could a softer Brexit option like the customs union.

There are still a few ways to resolve this open, but I’m not sure May’s deal (without the confirmatory referendum) is one of them.

At what point will the politicians have the courage to admit a second referendum is the way forward?

They’re going to crash out on April 12.

The only good thing about this has been giving Marina Hyde unlimited material. Her latest, this time on the Tories living up to replace May:

"Liam Fox is the bowl of carrot sticks on the table at your child’s birthday party. Why bother to even put it out, given that you know no one likes it, wants it, or ever eats it? Unclear; but you do it every time."

sure lets have another vote. Mays deal or no deal

Im all in favour.
It’s about the only vote that is likely given the current impasse; it has the validity as it is the choice of brexit options so respects the first vote.

I still think there will be a no deal brexit with or without a vote.
