People should realise only Collingwood and Brisbane took more inside 50 marks on the weekend. This is despite having the third least inside 50s across the round, and only four for the entire second quarter. The shit being spat out on here about our inability to take a mark inside 50 is senseless.

If anything, id be giving blokes like Poppy and Bruest a rocket as they allowed Suckling and Daniel to lead them on a merry dance.

Our midfield collective was just overwhelmed by a hungry, harder running group. SO, we should get some more run in this week. Calls for Brand forward, Sicily to be move forward, are rubbish. Our forward line, scoring wise, actually operated exceptionally well from the few chances they had.
I agree, suckling seemed to have no pressure applied to him when rebounding and we all know how damaging he can be when given that freedom.

Suckling also beat Bruest a few times in 1 on 1's.

Breust will be the biggest beneficiary when Wingard returns. It will be interesting to see how much time Wingard plays in the midfield this week.
My thoughts all summer is that these two will be fighting over the same chips. The only pressure that will come off Breust is if Wingard dominates meaning that Breust will be missing less sodas due to less shots on goal.

Pretty much this and exactly what I said in the autopsy thread. Our defense defended inside 50s on a freakishly good level until that last quarter when we ran out of legs, and our forwards took advantage of less opportunities. From my watching the game against the doggies again, it was a quality of supply issue through the midfield. I'd like to see the ball get put in the hands of someone in a better position to deliver. We look the most dangerous club in the league when we spot up targets.

We're not the worst team at centre clearances and actually getting the ball, we just have a habit of both our strongest mids being a bit unconsidered with their delivery when they get it. O'Meara and Worpel look amazing hitting those centre clearances like they do, but we're not a great high ball team and we no longer have that elite forward half pressure to keep the ball there. It's exactly why Nash is being persisted with, and why we have had Burgers up forward - they have toe and put on a load of pressure.

Mission only gets harder with Burgers out.

If Worps and O'Meara make it their mission to get the ball, I'd hope they can distribute it better to the outside so we can control our entries. Outside of the loss of Mitchell's freakish work rate, this is where we're missing his impact the most.

Stats can be misleading. If you think we are a good contested marking inside 50 you are watching a different game. Not sure Collingwood and Brisbane are great contested marking sides either. It probably stands to reason that contested marking, inside 50, is an issue across the board, given how players flood back in the modern game.

As others have posted our contested marking cupboard going forward is bare and people are suggesting solutions, that is all. Not sure why that is rubbish.

Is it OK if I hum a few bars of 'Dirty Old Town' instead?

It is about Salford in England.

Smartarsery aside, Nash is a brilliant propspect, really like the look of him, love watching him play, hope3fully he endures a form slump this weekend before picking up again.

We are the equal top contested marking team this year, along with West Coast. We are also 5th for Marks inside 50.

It's rubbish because contested marking inside 50 is a rubbish metric and not really that much of a worry. Our F50 contested marking cupboard has been bare for years, neither Rough nor Franklin have ever been good at it and our main aerial threats have been Puopolo and Rioli.

So how many minutes of this game are going to be chewed up watching Ben Brown line up from the defensive fifty and spend 90 seconds of his allotted 30 to have a shot? The guy should be banned, every single time he takes longer than the 30, and should be tackled in his run up. Last week he kicked one after the siren when he took the mark ages before the siren, and the umpire should have told him to play on. He kicked it 55 seconds after the mark indicated.

Clearly he plays this year Hodgeyroad? Injury updated from season to indefinite...

Your confirmation and judgement speaks volumes

KOLOKOTRONIS

Yeah my information is he's a very good chance of a late season return as things stand, but I don't think the club will bother if our position on the ladder is looking rather dire.

Should be made to bounce it or called for running too far.... hopefully though he just doesn't get his hands on it.

We went hard for Lynch. We need a contested marking forward to take the next step. It has been the case for a while now. Our smalls trying to leap mountains has been hard to watch at times.

Yeah we're short a few pieces if we want to be a premiership contender.

Think we are a bit weak all over the board in terms of a premiership except for the HF line(Gunston, Wingard, Breust) HB line (Impey, Sicily, Hardwick) ,wings/outside runners(Hendo, Scully, Smith) and Ruck department(Mcevoy, Cegs, Pitto, Reeves).

Areas of most concern are inside mids and key forwards

How's a straight swap for Mason Wood sound?

Yeah gotta say I wouldn't trade nash for wood hahaha

Think the baby needs to be thrown out with the bath water unfortunately.
Jones in as a 50/50 mid/fwd for Shiels
Wingard in as a 50/50 mid/fwd for Burgoyne
Lewis in for Rough (watched the game finally and he ran under it 5 times, last time I saw him do that was in his second year)
Ceglar and Bigboy then rotate as 'stay at home in the goal square' and Lewis is the Leading CHF we need to bring it to ground.
or even CLUNK one or two

Given our record of trading with you, no.

Mason I fear doesn't want footy enough though.

Has all the ability in the world, but lacks necessary c-word.

rough has been mis-timing his jumps for the better part of 3 seasons now. When you see it at the game it's honestly remarkable how he can jump a good 2 or 3 seconds too early.

That too but what I mean is the lack of confidence or the 'hearing footsteps' that can be shown when players move too far under the fall of the ball.

Ins: Howe, Wingard, Lewis
Outs: Sheils (inj), Burgoyne (inj), Ceglar (omitted)

While Nash (and to a lesser extent Morrison) have been struggling I think with our injuries + Clarko's long term plan they stay in the side. Call it growing pains and hope for a better effort this weekend. However, I think Ceglar has been fairly ineffective in his role.

Vs Adelaide: 8 disposals, 14 hitouts, 1 mark, 0 goals, 2 tackles
Vs WB: 9 disposals, 16 hitouts, 2 marks, 0 goals, 5 tackles

While his tackling pressure has been good I don't think he's fulfilling the role of the second ruck well enough. He's had 0 scoreboard impact, is struggling to take marks around the ground and is only serviceable at hitouts. McEvoy is currently doing things basically alone. For this reason I would bring in Lewis who can hopefully replicate his JLT2 form vs Richmond and clunk some marks around the ground. He'll likely be slightly worse than Ceglar at hitouts but IMO will give us more around the ground. Ceglar is a good player, he just needs a wakeup.

B: Stratton Frawley Scrimshaw
HB: Hardwick Sicily Impey
C: Scully Cousins Henderson
HF: Nash Gunston Wingard
F: Bruest Roughead Puopolo
Fol: McEvoy O'Meara Worpel
Int: Smith Lewis Howe Morrison
Emg: Jones Ceglar Mirra

Sorry mate but I forgot to use the sarcasm font, my bad.
