While I am not opposed to giving him games. My only issue is going with an AFL only development approach is look what it did to Swallow. His body was well and truly cooked for many years because of him being thrown in every week and expected to mix it up with much older and stronger opponents.

Obviously, I am going to back the coach in, if he thinks Lukosius fills a role then I am all for keeping him running around. Just giving an opposing opinion.

Need to look at structure also
Geelong
Estava ratugolea
Game 3, 6 disposal ,2 mark ,0 tackle
Game 2 6 disposal , 1 goal , 1 mark , 4 tackle
Game 1 5 disposal , O marks , 2 tackle .

No doubt Lukosius will have to be managed. Usually, debutants get min 3 games. I like the idea Corbett replacing Lukosius when ready. Swallow played way too early as an inside midfielder - big difference.

If Lukosius can turn out to be the player that Swallow is today then we will be better for playing him early.

I think I prefer Weller coming off the HBF. He still has that ability to push up the ground and kick a good long goal too.
Corbett , Weller , lukosius , Powell, Murdoch all have good endurance and flexibility in their role if the coach want to mix thing up .

Hopefully we do what Hawthorn did to Caleb Daniel and whoever is on him just takes him right to goal square.

He was nearly BOG for us despite those goals haha! Good luck this weekend guys, hoping for a good contest :)

Lukosius hasn't been knocked about and the experience is invaluable. I watched Ballard and Powell struggle at times last year and thought what is Dew doing?? Their improvement this year justifies Dew's decision.

That's the thing though theres pretty much zero evidence to say whether those games last year had any impact at all on their improvement this year. Personally I think a few games of ones footy make stuffall difference and the improvement is attributable to body maturity and 12 months worth of coaching.

That's all true, but by the same token we have no evidence NEAFL helps development either. And there's still a risk of getting banged up.

I just don't see many players that replace him based on contribution to the team. Maybe Ah Chee? But even he has had plenty of opportunities to cement his spot. Upside wins for me and Lukosius has oodles of that [emoji3]

Edit: For the record, my tip is we'll see exactly what Jack has to offer if we let him settle down and play 5 or 6 straight.

Lukosius just looks a little timid and is still getting used to the pace and size of AFL so isn’t banging in and attacking the ball the way he will in a few years. He’ll be better for the experience and when it clicks he will be a star. Just needs that first goal or play to give him the confidence that he can play well at this level. Then the rest will take care of itself.

Some time in the NEAFL wouldn’t be awful either to let him loose but it’s a development year for us still and if he is comfortable handling the big league then I would rather him in their.

If it’s development year then should be playing Will Brodie too

Sending lukosius back to NEAFL will see him , Ben king , Koenan and Graham getting below 5 disposal with that kind of supply/defensive work from midfield.

There’s plenty of evidence to say you need to play AFL to adapt and adjust to the tempo and pace of the game. Time and space available in the NEAFL isn’t close. Lukosius is an elite kick but he’s rushing his kicking while he adapts to the pace.

No point playing the future of the club against Canberra Tradies - this year is about getting games and experience into our most talented kids, not wins - they’re just the bonus

No-one should be gifted a game, but luko hasn’t been atrocious - rather lose games with kids that will turn into stars than win a few to finish 12th.

It’s a rebuild - back the plan

Game day. Who's excited!?!?

I hope Dewy has the following quote plastered all over the dressing room at Marvel Stadium...
"This will be the worst list we’ve ever seen put on an AFL field." (Matthew Lloyd, October 2018)
Every week is an opportunity to prove this muppet wrong. I hope the boys are as motivated by that quote as I would be!
