I think having Davies in is perfect. Play him more mid to support rowell and Anderson as a crash and bash. Then have Graham and Miller as more forward and have them rotate in the midfield to rest rowell and Anderson.

We've seen how damaging miller and Graham have been playing foward so I reckon it'd work perfect
A 191cm 92kg defensive midfielder in Dunkley is very physically imposing against a 180cm 82kg Rowell... UNTIL you've got a 193cm 94kg midfield shield in Davies providing protection for the likes of the physically smaller Rowell and Anderson. Dimma has mentioned the need for midfield protection for Miller + Anderson for weeks / months and yesterday we got a glimpse into what is possible when that protection is provided.

186cm 87kg Swallow and 186cm 84kg Graham will try their hardest, but they physically can't provide the kind of protection we saw from Davies yesterday. You're not going to get many taggers that are bigger than Dunkley so investing in Davies as our crash and bash midfield shield would be a wise move going forward if we want to beat the absolute best teams in the league on a regular basis. Forget about playing Davies as a third tall forward or ruck, just let him own this position in the midfield because it's extremely important for our best mids to shine on game day.

Touk showed us this year that he's more than capable of hitting the scoreboard and can rotate through the midfield when it's needed so I'm not too concerned about that. Graham also looks like he's capable of playing just about any role you want him to play. Not that I'd do this, but I reckon you could throw him down back on a key forward and he'd try his abolute hardest to do the job and would likely win some contests because he's gifted in terms of his speed + vertical leaping ability. That's just the kind of guy he is. Graham is also really quick so you could potentially throw him on a wing or halfback.

It's not hard to fit Will Graham or Touk Miller into this team IMO. Lombard and Holman are prime candidates to go out for them. We're going to eventually get more injuries as well so there will definitely be opportunities there.

I know im not alone in being sickened by the sight of Marcus Ashcroft handing out a medal named after him.

Serious question please.

Who should the medal be named after? Help me out with good ideas.

Miller Zorko Medal - as much as i hate dorko, it really opitomises the level of rivalry and hate between brisC and the might suns

Why does it have to be named after someone?
It's bizarre.
Maybe in 50 years time when there's someone worthy
The Queensland Derby Medal is fine

Can't we just change it to the Q clash medal? I honestly don't like it being the Ashcroft medal. It's so Brisbane biased. Just because he worked with us but not like he actually played any games for us.

That's what they do in WA with Glenndinning (West Coast) and Allan (Fremantle). It also makes sense in terms of merit because Touk has won it a record four times and Zorko has won it twice. We'll probably have to wait for both players to retire in order to change it, but I think it makes sense to do it if you don't want to simply call it the QClash Medal. Plus, both are AA stars of the game who genuinely hate each other and that's the kind of vibe you want in a rivalry game. Excellence + hatred.

There always has to be a smart arse even when you ask for serious answers
Yeh i was joking. And as much as eh was a campaigner of a person and ripped off thousands, he did bring vfl footy to se qld.

But in all seriousness, no need to use peoples names as others have said

I think they should abbreviate the game to the Qlash - slicker and easier to say

I’m still hoping that they’ll get rid of the “Q clash” name. What genius from AFL HQ came up with that one? Pineapple Grapple, Sunshine Showdown, Backyard Brawl, Queenslander Cup, The Maroon Melee, Banana Battle all sound better.

This is where the new Coomera Connector should come in handy. Instead of sending everyone that's heading north on the one road (that eventually turns into one lane) towards the M1, we'll have some heading straight up the Coomera Connector and others heading north-west to join the M1 (see below).

The planned overpassing bridges around the stadium will help too because it should mean less foot traffic on the roads surrounding the stadium and a bus station on the western side of Nerang-Broadbeach Rd will prevent the need for buses to do U turns and hold up traffic in doing so. Having a ferry stop on the eastern side of the stadium should help ease congestion as well.

Below is an impression of what it's supposed to look like in the future when we upgrade the stadium capacity to 40k and build the boutique AFLW stadium slightly north of PFS. Having a hotel that has restaurants and bars on the lake will help also because some patrons will avoid leaving the precinct straight away to have a drink/dinner after the game.

Current status

Construction is underway.

That current pathway all the way to nerang station - will that be an underpass perhaps? With the works done on the connector its right there wedged between new connector and current road and i can’t see how it remains as is?!?
https://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/projects/coomera-connector-stage-1-south

Key features

This 4km section of the project between Nerang and Molendinar will have:

  • a grade-separated interchange at Southport-Nerang Road
  • a new intersection at Nerang-Broadbeach Road
  • a new 300m bridge structure over the Nerang River
  • 4km of shared bicycle and pedestrian path with local path network connections for communities at Molendinar and Nerang
  • open-graded asphalt road surface for increased safety and reduced noise.
