The national treasurer speaking with more difficulty than a man in the throes of motor neuron.

What's happened with Greenwood? He looked an ok player and now struggling at sanfl level. He's been back a few games from injury now?

Melbourne greats Garry Lyon and David Schwarz have reacted with dismay to the Herald Sun’s bombshell report about their club’s tanking saga.
Leaked documents featuring interviews conducted between AFL investigators and Melbourne staff, coaches, players and officials in 2012 have been uncovered by the newspaper and include eight figures reportedly admitting the football department had been directed not to win more than four games.
Players — who were not seriously injured — were also reportedly kept off the ground to limit interchange rotations, while the report also referred to “fake injuries” which ruled certain players out of selection.

Geez .. What is the AFL going to do now ... Hide ... :D

“It’s the world’s worst-kept secret,” -David Schwarz, Demon great and courageous author of "All Bets Are Off" (published 2011), detailing his successful battle against gambling addiction.

"I'd like to hear the other version... lamentable" - Gary Lyon, temporary football director immediately after the alleged offending (late 2011).

Melbourne found not guilty of tanking in Feb 2013, and fined $500,000 by the AFL. Can I be bothered to look up what they were actually fined for? No, too busy LOL-ing at it, the AFL, them. And somehow managing the cognitive dissonance of not letting our "lost" priority picks in the same era bother me.

At least the AFL is consistent and predictable. That old wet lettuce in Gil's cupboard must be looking fairly tired by now. No way will Melbourne be punished now after Essendon were ultimately punished only for sins of omission rather than for sins more widely regarded as the AFL world's worst-kept secret.

Aaaaand right on cue these two teams are playing tonight in what should be forever known as the "Wet Lettuce" cup.

On the umpiring display to half time the AFL seem to have chosen Essendon as the lesser evil, giving them the benefit of the doubt in many barely-there free kick decisions. Tonight's Melbourne group deserve a lot of credit for persevering against that impression and hitting the front in that second quarter. There have been several times I've wished our own would dig so deep against clear-ish bias and react in such a focused and determined way.

Now that I've been so uncompromisingly fair, I really can't be bothered to keep watching for the second half. After all, I tipped Geelong by 24 points last night, Melbourne tonight and ourselves to win tomorrow afternoon. Thank you and goodnight!
