Pretty disappointing for Neale, as he should be on top of the leaderboard.
He got 10 coaches votes and hopefully 3 brownlow votes.
I also thought Ryder shouldn't be in the votes, 10 disposals (3 goals) and along with Lycett went missing in the last 10 mins. Martin and the Big O were very influential in the last 10 mins.

:D

Everyone is entitled to their opinion of Roos and Lynch....for me, they are LIONS FOREVER, unless they explicitly come out and state that they aren't, commentary be damned.

Lynch, yeah probably.....despite his puzzling commentary style when doing Lions games.

Roos I think, still has emotional connections with his Fitzroy days but I've always had the impression that he never got on board at all with the BRISBANE Lions. When Voss got shafted by Angarse, there was a pretty strong suggestion that ROOS was in the frame for the Lions job. Roos shot that down quick smart and instead took the EXTREMELY well paid coaching position with the Dees.

There was a bit of innuendo around at the time that Roos had led the Lions Board up the garden path as leverage for the AFL to offer him a monster contract at Melbourne but I really have no idea whether there was any substance to it. Roos himself strongly denied giving the Lions any expression of interest before or during the time of the appallingly handled Voss sacking. Still, back then there was a weird disconnect between what the then Lions Board appeared to be suggesting and what Roos was saying publicly.

That aside, Roos has always struck me as having his true allegiance with and affection for the Sydney Swans where he played with distinction after his Fitzroy days and of course , subsequently coached to a Premiership.

Comments he's made over the years since quitting as Sydney coach often reference the way things were/ still are done at the Swans

He's got a connection from Fitzroy, he's a LION.

That's it for me :)

I don't spend any more time thinking about than that - what he did/didn't do, may/may not have done since retiring from playing and the subsequent years as a coach makes no difference to me.

Let's be honest - Matthews NEVER went back to Hawthorn, even though, especially after 1990, he could have walked into the top job, but he'll always be a champion of that club. Just because Roos didn't want to come to Brisbane and coach the Lions means nothing - any speculation about how he handled that time when we torched Vossy is clearly explained in his book "Here It Is".

Matthews was always wary of the romance overriding the practical and Roos is nothing if not practical.

Roos = Lion :)

Lachie winning the Brownlow will somewhat cushion the disappointment of missing out on The Age's award, whatever that is. Is it called the 'Leftie'?

Honestly no BS, I have $50 on him at $41 to win the Brownlow.

I know you’re right too I was putting $20 on it but chose not as I’ve had complications with work. I saw it was $41 and thought that could be an absolute steal and boy based on the first three games I’m gutted I didn’t follow through.

He's into $6 now. What's the cash out paying?

Definitely cash out. $6 is ridiculous. Every year guys get injured, lose form or just don't attract the umps even though they appear to dominate.

It's a long season,we're only 15% through

Rich up there in the coaches votes.

We always had the feeling he'd be a great player in a great team and we might be seeing that now

Thought the same. Watching him stream through the middle from defence and then booting a monster kick to Hipwood for a goal was a thing of beauty

Didn’t Roos say at some stage that he always tells his son that he has two teams, Sydney and the Brisbane Lions.
I've heard this as well.
I think Lynch and Roos sometimes try too hard to not show their 'love' for the Lions.
I did think that they went over the top with the Robbo downfield free kick incident.

The only problem with that is that you miss the crowd involvement and atmosphere.

There should be some way you can mute out the mindless chatter of the "experts" but keep the background noise.
Agree, turned it back on when Oscar took the mark, once we got in front and kicked those quick goals, the commentary team didn't have time to crap on.

The biggest Lions fan would be fairly negative if they commentated. We mark our own very harshley.

Eddie sulks quite a bit calling Collingwood games.

I'm still scared of Roos from when I was a child.

That being said, no way could I keep my Lions bias in check if I commentated. I'd be worse than Eddie.

The hardest part for me commentating a Lions game would be finding enough synonyms for phrases like "some useless (opposition team name) muppet" and
"some (opposition team name) player has been scythed down like the man of straw that he is".

Other than that, I reckon I'd be fine.

I would've thought it'd be evading the censors when you take a Port game. I'm not sure the viewing public would tune in for three hours of solid beeping.

I will concede that point.....maybe they'd let me do an after-game, BT-style segment, where I go into the losers Port rooms and ask them to sing the Lions' club song for me.

Ratings gold, hospital bills be damned.

I think Rich is fully fit for the first time in years.

That's the difference.
And while we're on fitness, I can't believe that Cam is fit. By his own admission he came back from the break in less than peak condition and I'm not sure he has yet caught up. Even allowing for his corky which may still be affecting him, his involvment seems to be in even shorter bursts than last year.
