Not wanting to be critical after such a great win in which he gave everything but he was the least impressive of all our smalls. Thought Baker and Bolton had him covered.

Baker spotting up Lynch inside 50 with a 45m bullet in the last resulted in a goal that iced the game for us. Put the ball in Georges hands rather than Bakers and it’s a turnover and perhaps a different result

When the game was hot at the start i thought George pressure and intensity was very high

he got the ball rolling a bit

But I don’t know if you can hang your hat on just applying pressure. Unfortunately for George it’ll always come down to his disposal which is well below AFL standard. Can you afford to have a permanent small forward that can’t convert his chances?

I love what George brings in the way of pressure but when the penny drops for guys like Bolton (and it did yesterday-had 6 tackles) and you see the ball use of Baker compared to him then these guys will replace George imo.

Who can forget the misses, his disposal for an elite afl footballer is deplorable, has cost us game , will do again send back to the vfl with the task of improving his disposal by hand and by foot, piss off the ball twirl and learn to ****ing kick or find another club.

To be fair his stats in regards to games/goals/age compare well to the A grade small forward like Eddie Betts ...

Put the stats up.... I have said if my life depended on it on a shot at goal 15-20 out I would rather have Richo than George kicking for me

His general field kicking is awful so it’s not as though you could play him in another role . If you played him on the wing or hb he’d get the ball but turn it straight over
I reckon with others starting to push their cases in the VFL and injured players to return he’s days might be numbered

Was good last night because he handballed off most times.

Not sure if he was really 'good', but we have such low expectations of Costagna that if he doesn't have an extensive low-light reel of stuff ups he's considered to have done ok (except for that one missed handball that left even the commentators shaking their heads in disbelief -that's certainly one for the Costagna comedy vault).

Ultimately he is a small forward, and unlike Diesel Williams or Craig Lambert he won't able to make a career out of hand balling. Unfortunately his handball aint that good and he doesn't get enough of it. The clock is ticking...

Noticed that he is now 'scared' to kick the ball and is looking to pass it off as much as possible, This is not a good thing and just shows signs his confidence is shot.

Needs to go back to the vfl and and string a good block of games and get his mojo back

He would have stopped, propped and kicked it out of bounds or handballed it to a 1 on 1 contest based entirely on past history

Castagna has spent the summer trying to improve his kicking. He’s invested hours to this end but still falls short. His game is pressure and laying tackles. Question is, is that enough in 2019 where some teams have exploited the pressure game style that won the flag a couple of years ago. He won’t improve much, can you live with that great endeavour but sloppy skill work. Personally I can’t and would be happy to look at someone else and I don’t mean Butler.

It's not just his kicking it's his inability to handball. Multiple weeks in a row he has missed straight forward handballs under no pressure in forward moves and it does me. At the end of the day there was a reason he was just a rookie and he did well to be a part of a flag side but ultimately he is a spud and needs to be moved on. When comparing him to Balta there is literally no comparison as long as Balta can defend.

Castanga has got the most out of himself and yes provides pressure.

He has no awareness - and his skill level when under pressure is terrible - missed handball , kicks will cost the team - Needs time in the seconds

His skills are good. Jason's problems are mental and unfortunately seem to have got worse.

I've never seen him play at VFL level so maybe his skills are good against that standard of opposition.
But at AFL level his skills are downright poor. His missed handballs kill momentum. It's not as if they're that difficult he can miss a argent 3 meters away. He's a momentum killer.
No one can question his endeavour, he has that in spades, but he needs that to make up for his usual shortcomings. Missed marks, fumbles, missed handballs and woeful set shots on goal. He has all the attributes of a bush footballer playing AFL. Maybe it's more evident because he's had an injury and was rushed back without having much touch. But does none believe his skills have improved over the past few years?
He's been serviceable in some games, missing in others. I think we have better, more skilful and better decision makers in his position now.

You're not understanding the situation at all. Take away the crowd and TV cameras and he's close to elite. His problems on the big stage are mental.

It's a tricky one. He gets to more contests than any other small forward we have, but his skills are deplorable. But overall, is he more influential than Rioli? After all, for all Rioli's 'silk', he doesn't get the ball any more than George, he actually kicks fewer goals, and doesn't tackle as much.

Maybe, the most important skill in the 'pressure' game plan is - pressure. It doesn't matter who winds up kicking the goal, it's about who creates the chance.

Rioli is the one I'm a little bit concerned about - sometimes his attack on the ball (particularly in some marking contests) is a little strange. George was a rookie-list shot - whatever happens, he's paid his way. Rioli is a Top-20 pick, and should really be showing more (OK - bad foot injury 18 months ago, but he should be over that now).

I know this is a #11 thread but Rioli gets the attention of their best HB defender more often than not, where it used to be Sheds. His production is fine in this circumstance. Like Higgins, he is transitioning away from being a pure forward, which needs time and experience to get to the elite level that we are expecting. Concern is warranted but patience must be given in the same amount too.
