Rory Sloane on gameday now for those interested. Should give us an insight into their thinking atm.

The following players are to slow move on when ball in hand:
-Kelly
-Keath
-Poholke
-Talia
-Harigan
-CEY

Therefore we struggle to get it out our back half. Got beaten in and around the contest which only amplified these straight line kicks.

I agree with this, such timid play.
I don't care about switching and chipping the ball around, it's poison and it's our first thought. It's our mindset now.
No one can tell me that type of football wins premierships. Under pressure the game plan collapses because it gives time for defenses to fill holes, man up and restructure further up field.
It concedes territory, puts pressure on the next kick, and pins you back into the dead pockets. A possession that started between half back and wing ends up being helmed in one of the dead back pockets.
The next option is limited as where to kick so quickly the pressure is on and we aren't coping at present.

Not to mention what it does to the forward play.
Forwards don't know when to lead, play far too deep up the field and are running into a clustered zone where mid fielders have flooded back.
Everyone complained at Jenkins getting easy goals over the back in 2017 but that was symptom of quick ball movement and defenders not being able to get back to support each other. It screamed quick ball movement.
If a ball is voluntarily pinned in our defensive half most of the night because of timid and slow ball movement cheap goals will never happen and good teams get a few of them a game. It also limits defences pushing up.
At present our tall forwards are rarely given the luxury to play one on one.

Keath played a great game but he never moves the ball on. His first reflex is to look left and right and then he stops holds his hands up and does a bail out kick or takes the 8 metre pass.
Kelly always goes sideways or the short kick. He never clears lines but puts the responsibilities onto some one else.
Talia is as slow as a wet week in July both in foot speed and moving the ball on.
Hartigan is selected for his body work and defensive play but should never be given the chance to kick the pill if possible.( A man's got to know his limitations.)
Smith has a cannon but how many times does he actually use it.
I can't understand at kick outs why he can't run 5 metre and then belt the crap out the ball down the centre and clear the defensive zone. Surely coaches are creative enough to work out multiple schemes where his kicking can be utilised. At least we're half way up the field!!!
Don't get me started on the vision of our mid fielders!

I'm sure this will be the first rant of many over the coming weeks but my frustration for our game plan is real.
A lot of what I wrote is exaggeration but our first look is always sideways and it's a habit.

Apart from dropping multiple players what can we legitimately do to alter these results?

The coaches have to change our play style; change our kick outs, encourage run and forward movement, try to move the ball through the centre corridor and bloody teach a shepherd.
Pyke believes in his structures and blames our execution. He might be right but that won't change our results unless he's prepared to change his mindset.
The objective is to move the ball forward with speed and vision.

Rule 1. Any player who kicks the ball backwards or sideways is fined if a forward target was available. Every bloody time!!

I've got a hundred rules but that one rule would at least make our games watchable.

One thing I noticed about opposition defenders when they play us, they dont need to hold or restrict our forwards illegally, they genuinely know that our players cant take contested marks.

Look how many times Talia had to body check Ben Brown out of panic. Opposition defenders dont need to do this to our forwardline because they know how forwardline is cooked.

Talia starting to grab opponents. Usually a sign of panic, lack of confidence. Not backing himself to just read the ball in the air and get the mark/spoil

Worst of all to one of the best set shots for goal in the comp at the Dome too.

The frees were all there, I didnt have a problem with any of them.

My outsider observation is you need a new coach to both a) coach better and b) break the players out of their funk.
Craig broke the players out of the Ayres funk.

Sanderson broke the players out of the Craig funk.

Walsh broke the players out of the Sanderson funk.

I look forward to getting a new coach to break out of the Pyke funk. Until the players get fed up with that coach and we rinse and repeat.

The front line is outrageously top heavy and slow. This has been obvious for well over a year. It should have been restructured by now. A better coach will fix this.

The rest of the squad is fine but they play the uninspired football of a team that knows it’s just spinning its wheels. A new coach will give the mids and backs instant hope, lifting their game just by the change.
Nice username!

And Cheney is/was better than both. Yet, we delisted Cheney for... can anyone tell me why?
I'm only guessing, though I think a plausible reason would be his involvement in the pre match Bulldogs info that was allegedly leaked by Tahlia's broher, who was subsequently delisted. He hardly played a game following that.

We do tend to hold things against players

Vince and Hudson got internally suspended for missing curfew... seeya

Contract status

Tex: 2021
Lynch: 2021
Jenkins: 2021
Gibbs: 2021
Sloane: 2023

Can't even cash anyone in for a rebuild, even if we wanted to.

I come in peace.

Sloane is a gun and locking him in until 2023 deserves congratulations.
Gibbs was a high profile recruit, so a decent term contract is the norm. Was good early last year when there was injuries to the Crouch bro's, but he's being played out of position atm...he's a mid not a half back.

However a decision should have been made on one or even two of Tex/Lynch/Jenkins. Signing them all up to long-term, reasonably high $$$ deals was a poor decision, especially since you have guys like Fogarty & Himmelberg coming through. McGovern was also in the team at the time these deals were made.

Could have potentially used some of that money to maybe sway a Cameron or McGovern to stay, or used it to poach a good first ruck like Lycett, who's been huge for Port.

You honestly don't think anyone in the 2s can do better than what we dished up last night ?? You're just sour about Burton costing your Port boys a win last night.
I think we need to try but you may be dissappointed, uts worth trying but we will get some really bad results aswell as good ones

Better than being like the Aussie cricket team and rotating and resting players for no reason, I would rather have a best 22 while blooding a few young kids. It's the traditional successful way. Pykes been here for long enough and still doesn't know who our best 22 are, and which ones to blood.
Thats exactly what he us presently doing and your complaining about it FFS

He needs to be taken in to a backroom and have his pride seriously challenged "old school style".

If he doesn't respond, trade him for whatever you can get.
I dont get this. Theres no amount of bollocking that will fix jenkins. He has been soft and lazy his whole failed career. Cut our losses at pay him out at the end of the year.

The closest we are going to get to a GF appearance with this misguided group is as half time entertainment.

I'm suggesting donning flares, holding hands and skipping down the G to the tune of " Feeling Groovy ".

" slow down , your moving to fast "

Question would we have been a better team if we had kept Gov, Lever and Cameron and lost Tex, JJ and Betts by not extending their contracts at the time?
Interesting question.

Gov no, he is and will always be a flash in the pan player.

Lever potentially, we had a ready made and probably better replacement but he did his job well.

Cameron yes, but Eddie still would have had a role to play alongside him.
