What a shameful game, won't be good reviewing. dropped marks .. lack of crumbers , wasteful disposal and absolute brain fades. then as Sicily said to umpire 23 or what ever.. cant help yourself , once again you insert yourself on the game.

So Sicily isn’t allowed to express an opinion?
Is that your point? I don’t see the issue with Sicily mouthing off and expressing his opinion, it is who he is.

You'll win by 75+

Nah, quiet games for Wingard and Breust today means they’ll be primed for next week. Game will be up for grabs in the last 5 minutes - bookmark it.

Felt the Saints were more willing to get their hands dirty and do the grunt work for each other than we were; we relied too much on skill, which is always difficult when our cream is out.

Our midfield is too shallow without our stars. That we held up as well as we did is a testament to McEvoy's game. Worpel was immense, and Henderson continued his strong form this season, but it's difficult to find too much to be positive about after the surrender from halfway during the third.

4 hammies in total. Are we missing A Russel? Turned things around at Blues where there are none.
Too small a sample size four games in. We've had plenty of Hammy's under Jack, Shiels and Burgoyne had them under him, not sure on Chip.

Not uncommon to get a few this time of year, we've been unlucky you'd think

Too early to say otherwise.

It's the umpiring in the last 5 minutes that screws us again. Mirra falls next to the ball and the saints player jumps on him with the ball and gets the free kick. We lay tackle after tackle and don't get rewarded... Also a saints player literally dived on the ball and Mirra tackled him but no free.

If we had Stratton and Frawley all game there is no way the game is that close in the end.

Brand and O'Brien must be horrible for Box Hill if Mirra is keeping them out each week.

We’re not contending so lower your expectations kids.
Without TOM and Jaegs, we battle.
Lost count of the amount of times we were beaten around the packs, by St Kilda of all clubs.
No midfield at all from our side, especially when it counted.
Harry is a good kid but he lacks the body to really compete, Worps always solid, Cousens also lacks physical presence as they’re just kids.
Enjoy the rebuild kids.

Rested did we. You know this? He played out the game last week with a hip issue and did nothing all week on the track to try and get up for the game.
He couldn't kick last week after hurting it but yeah we rested him....
If we win next week I’ll call it a genius move but 4 points is 4 points doesn’t matter who you get them against. With TOM out, we’re never going to win if Jaeger misses a game unfortunately.

Real positives have been the serious, fast-tracked growth of some of our youngsters:
  • Scrimshaw looks an absolute steal. So many key intercepts and spoils today. Kept his feet and just can kick the ball nicely.
  • Jarman Impey has gone up another level this year - his performances down back have been so bloody solid. Intercept marks a constant is impressive considering his height.
  • Cousins had a ripper of a game. Considering he spent a whole quarter and a bit off the pitch, to rack up 20+ disposals and several clearances, he is a real beaut. His first quarter and a half before his niggle was exceptional.
  • Worps continues to become an absolute jet in the centre. Led our clearances today with 7-8.
  • Scully and Wingard, who are both still underdone by coach estimations, are improving and Scully had his best match in Hawks colours.

It sucks we lost but we were really up against it today all things considered. Plenty of positives to take from the match despite not getting the four points.

This year really feels like our 2010. We're building this new squad, putting time into players and forging our new look.

The last 10-15 minutes was horrible viewing - we could hardly clear the ball from our backline and in the last 2 minutes with game on line saints won about 5 clearances in a row. Ffs Ceglar if you can’t beat Rowan Marshall you shouldn’t be in the 22.

We clearly ran out of legs due to an unfortunate run of injuries and just couldn’t get across the line (despite somehow still being in it).

Could be an ugly next month or two.

Hopefully Clarko realises that we may want to play a couple of players who can actually mark the ball.

Injuries skew what you are able to take away from that result. Losing disappointing but probably not the best measure of how we performed. In fairness to saint kilda they dominated the march after we got out to that lead and in the end would have been stiff had we held on somehow. Wingard disappointed the hell out of me because that is the exact scenario you would expect him to do something. He barely fired a shot all day. I will try to put it down to him being rusty and instead I will focus on the good performances of Worpel Scully Scrimshaw and Morrison. The fact that all of them contributed is very encouraging for our long term outlook. If we can get similar output from them going fwd v geelong I will be happy irrespective of the result.

It's extremely hard to beat any team when you have injuries like we did today, not to mention the ones already on the sidelines (Mitchell etc.). We are still a good team at full strength with the best coach in the league. I'm not writing off the season yet.

Got a feel of one of those years about it , nothing seems to be going quite right for us ever since Tom’s broken leg .

Can’t fault the players effort , they tried there guts out and were spent halfway through the 3rd quarter .
After that we really were just hanging on but they kept fighting.
Most of the errors and the lack of options and players at the ball was because we were buggered .

I think it actually says more about the Saints that they struggled so much to beat a side who had lost so much personal game day

Obviously we need a few coming back Easter Monday to be competitive .

Hawks did ok considering they were 2 rotations down. That being said, can we please get some attention paid by the coaching team to contested marking? Sicily and McEvoy are the only players that show ability in that area.

Throw the whole umpiring department out, it's broken

Injuries galore. Horrible skills. Two potato losses now

The Mirra free at the crucial stage of the match right in front of goal says it all. That was not holding the ball as blind Freddy could see that he slipped over and going for the ball. Why not pay that all day then?

Especially if you go over the game and see what they didn't pay against them. That is what is biased and clearly the umpires will be quietly told to look after the opposition when it's a 50/50 decision.

Aside from the umpires and the injuries that though we played a side that are bottom four and we made them at times look like champions.

I can't remember how many times we bombed the ball in the air up the wings to be out marked by dwarfs time and time again.

Gunston, if you cant kick a goal from 30 meters out then go back to Box Hill and practice. Weak as piss as was a lot of our players.

Only positive I can take from that performance was perhaps Scrimshaw and Scully is going to be a great player for us for a number of year.

I don't think Stratton will be Captain next year and lucky to even keep his spot the way he is playing. Mirra, Hardwick and Impy poor. Wingard tried hard and will only get fitter and better I hope. Scily solid game. Cousins was solid also until he got injured.

Losing Frawley and Stratton was massive structurally. It meant that a) we were down two rotations so we got fatigued b) we didn't have our two most experienced defenders and c) guys like Bruce and Membrey started having a much larger impact. Having Smith/Cousins/Nash all playing with painkillers was a real blow too. It took until the last quarter but we completely ran out of steam. The inability of our ruckmen to actually do anything was concerning, although I suspect Ratten played a big part in nullifying their influence.

Our forwards ... I don't know. You could argue that the delivery was horrible, but they were constantly beaten today. Gunston, Bruest and Wingard were all unable to impact. Poppy tried hard but couldn't influence the game. Only Roughead looked like clunking them, but his fumbling at crucial times also cost us potential goals. We seem to be missing something and it certainly isn't talent.

Scrimshaw and Scully were both great, and Henderson is in career best form. Cousins was also good before the injury. But it's hard to take many positives out of that game. I suppose our effort was good, but ultimately we were beaten by a shit team who played shit. Things don't look so good on the horizon either. Injuries to key defensive players that will likely see them missing for a while. Queries over team fitness. Much better opponents coming up. Everything just feels pretty damn bad overall.

Again, what rubbish.

Sicily held his tongue for most of the match, but what is more, the Saints were being absolute pricks to him the entire match. Literally after every contest, they would get in his face, give him little niggles and Sic honestly did well to just walk it off. I wanted to smack some of the Saints players for him.

I hate the new rule tbh. Your teammate is being targeted with crap by the opposition and yet you cannot go in and push back against the other side for fear that the non-contact rules will be pinned on you, because the umps interpretation of the rule varies minute by minute.

The game is over-officiated to the point of tears this year, and there are so many bloody new rules with wildly differing interpretations that getting consistency in umpiring decisions is a bloody pipe dream at this stage.
