Remember after the first 3 rounds when everyone wanted him dropped because he couldn't hit the side of a barn by foot?!

Every week with more time at the level he looks more an more assured - can't wait to see what he will do next year with a full pre-season under his belt.

FWIW in the 2007 season Gibbs averaged 13 disposals and Marc Murphy averaged just under 18 in their first and second years respectively, so far this year Dow has averaged 14 (and getting better each week) and Fisher just under 20.
I stand by those comments, especially given this was the second game back after the bye (and also that his kicking still has some horror moments).

His kicking will never be elite but he looks like sort of kid that will iron it out to something acceptable in time

Who would ever expect you to change your mind? However the facts who that in the first 4 games this year Dow averaged 11.75 possessions, in the next block of 4 he averaged 13.75, in the last block of 5 he has averaged 16 - as I said when you made your original comments - time at the level is very important, the more exposure he has got the better he has become.

As for this game being his best because he was second up after the bye, how do you explain his second best disposal game (18 possessions, 6 marks, 6 tackles and 2 behinds) which was possibly a better game than last weeks (given he laid only 4 tackles, took 2 marks and didn't score last week) being in round 10 - 2 weeks before the bye?

Given his performances the last two weeks, it's abundantly clear he could have used a spare week somewhere in that first block of 8 games.

Maybe he could have had a rest in round 7 against the Crows where he had 15 possessions and laid 5 tackles (compared to round 13 where he had 15 possessions and laid 4 tackles) or perhaps round 5 when he had 15 possessions and 3 tackles (plus a career high 7 clearances), maybe he was worn out in round 3 when he had the 15 possessions and 2 tackles.

Nothing about his performances in the last 2 weeks (when compared to what went before) make it "abundantly clear" he could have used a week off. The only thing that is "abundantly clear" is he has got better with each passing month - I believe being able to get repeated, consistent exposure at the level has played a massive part in that.

Hope it’s just the second year blues but his kicking & decision making has been ordinary this year !!

No comment on the rest of his game?

Has progressed significantly from last year and is showing some outstanding signs for a 19 year old.

There are areas he certainly needs to work on but why just focus on the negatives?

He’s doing a hell of a lot right.

Unfort the negatives outweigh his bursts through traffic/centre clearances with no result or resultant turnover. Game of inches.

Plenty of promise but plenty of work to do on his disposal. Think he’s got the ticker to come out the right side (Diesel needs to be hired).

Great. Another young and inexperienced player lambasted for not being perfect yet. Shows plenty in patches of what we need. A bit more burst. Will only get better the more he plays and learns.

Paddy was never recruited for his elite disposal, never had it as a junior, nor will he have it at AFL level, but it will improve

He was recruited for other attributes, winning plenty of the contested ball at stoppages with his relentless drive

He will be an important cog to the team

Played in the guts most of last year, and all of this year - out of necessity. Probably being relied upon as our second best extractor after Cripps at this stage.

Compare this to other clubs that are more mature/advanced and will play their 'mids' off a HBF for a year or even two before transitioning them slowly into the middle. We don't have that luxury.

How's that 'mid' Calum Mills going up at Sydney? Still learning the ropes playing off a HBF. No. 1 pick McGrath only transitioned to a mid this year, and less would be required of him in their midfield rotations than for Paddy in ours.

People need to realize how much is being expected of this 19 year old - and he's delivering above expectations in many areas I would say!

Paddy Dow is a good player who is adjusting to AFL and 2nd year blues does have merit as teams know how to deal with him and hee will learn and evolve.

Lochie O'brien is the player i would be more concerned about

My suggestion is to re-watch the Suns game where Paul Roos (rightly but excessively) maligned Paddy’s kicking. Paddy missed a few easy kicks. Instead of concentrating on those, watch his handballs in traffic. Incredibly effective. Add his breaking out of packs. His tackles. Superb for a kid. There is work to do on kicking for sure, but he’s a gem. I’d take him at the same pick in a heartbeat. We’ve got a beauty. And when those kicks start connecting more often, WOW.

I wouldn't mind betting LOB is being developed to take over from Kade Simpson. I think he just needs to keep playing footy and build up his confidence.
