I shut my eyes every time dunkley has a kick. I've got no idea how that ball drop wasn't corrected at a very early age.
I can’t recall what his dad’s kicking was like, but having a father who was also a pro seems to make it all the more baffling that it wasn’t rectified at a young age.

From team selection to position selection, it’s clear that Bev is out of ideas. He tried to turn the clock back by energising the team with two debutants. No dice . He tried to confuse the opposition with multiple position changes, but ended up confusing the team.

He’s a storyteller, and I’ve back the narrative until now, but I’m starting to think the fairy tale ended in 2016.

He’s said himself that a coach has a five year span. I don’t believe that. A coach can reenergise by having good assistants; he delegates to them; they get poached by other clubs and the process restarts.

No-one wants our assistants.

Mate your a long time poster and l respect your opinion however the point l make is quality over quantity. 15 Bont possessions are always more damaging than 30 Hunter. He constantly goes sideways and looks for the easy out. He has trained as a outside mid however at the end of the day there are times where you just need to go. He doesnt do that . Anyhow agree to disagree. Cheers
You are right with what you say, Richmond are a low possession team, but look at the speed they employ when
it's their turn. Richmond can lose possession 40% to 60% and still win, we cannot we are a volume team that
has to dominate statistically to eek out a narrow heart attack causing victory. Hunter is very suited to when
we win and usually dominates the stats sheet with Macrae, but at what cost to the cohesion of the team. This
balance for want of a better word is what we must seek, great teams do not rely on a couple of players to do
the job every week they share the load and the key moments.

Why did Bevo leave Bailey Williams in the middle for the whole first half? Cripps has 26 possessions for the half. Absolutely criminal that he didn’t put Libba in there earlier, I believe that cost us the game

The start was always going to be crucial in controlling Carlton's belief, or at least making them question themselves.
The 1 Goal and 7 Behinds for the second quarter cooked our goose, I could smell the skin browning nicely it was
crispy and delicious.

The last point is a very good one and one that having experienced it first hand Bevo should understand.

Compare the static state of our coaching panel under Beveridge with Hawthorns turn over and production line of ready made coaches under Clarkson.

I think Wood is done could not see him being able to turn it around. He just doesn't bring any leadership, he looks lost out there if he has to do anything other than float around loose in the backline

Called it in round 1 after he lost 2 contests to an 18 year old. Sorry Easton I love you and you're a terrific person, but please drop yourself. Gone from AA player to useless in 4 years. He isn't even 30! Absolutely cooked.

I wonder if there's a flu virus going through the club that theyre not mentioning.
Ive had it more than a week and couldnt imagine training or playing with it.

The general lethargy and some odd positional placements (libba in particular) makes me wonder if some were being looked after where possible and as best they could.

I mean what would/could you actually do if half a team had a virus. It must happen from time to time but its never reflected in the outs. They just play inexplicably badly that week.
Chuckle. Well maybe we caught it from the pies coz I think they had it. That's probably why we went close to them. They were as sick as dogs (pardon the pun) but still won.

Can we actually stop the pissing contest in every thread, come on to read other people’s views on the game and the issues causing us to perform like we are and have to go through 10 pages of pissing contests.

It’s constant in every thread people arguing on who was right and who was wrong about this and that, here’s a thought who gives a crap who was wrong or right. Then the crap about inside knowledge in the club and alluding to it but refusing to say it. If you have information about the club then say it or don’t bring it up at all and then the crap of people attacking other posters who bring inside knowledge up derails threads even more.

Here is an idea, stick to the topic of the thread, stop the pissing contest, stop alluding to rumours unless your going to share them and stop attacking each other or make a pissing contest thread for it all and this isn’t directed at one side it’s both sides of the arguments on here it’s no wonder so many people don’t contribute on here anymore.

We are all angry in the last three weeks we have lost to Gold Coast and got flogged by Carlton but there is no point taking it out on each other
I might have started the rumour thing. But the fact I posted with it was what David Parkin said on radio.
Look, everyone is just so frustrated, angry and dissappointed. I think a good vent is deserved by everyone today (including you, so it's not a criticism of your post)

Lol Dunks' dad was quite possibly the worst kick in the AFL and one of the all time worst kicks in the Afl ever. Horrific kick and commentators used to laugh if he ever had a set shot.

Poor old Dunks never had a chance on the kicking front.

There are three groups of people to blame for the position we are currently in:

Coach and assistants - team selection has constantly been stupid, they have failed to fix a forward line in 2 preseasons, constantly pick players who aren’t good enough to get in the team in their main position and then play them out of position. For those people that say yeah but he did that in 2016 and look what happened, did he really?
We had 2 talls up forward during finals (toyd and Cordy) 3 natural forward types (stringer, Dickson, Smith) 3 talls down back (Roberts, hamling, Morris) we actually had a well structured team and well balanced during that final series.

Leaders - we don’t have strong leaders, our captain is out of form, shouldn’t even be getting a game and is in no way leading by example or directing players on field to make up for his lack of form. Hunter and jj, both avoid contests, don’t tackle enough, jj only uses his speed going forward. If our leaders aren’t leading the way with voice and doing the hard things why should other players.

President - Gordon achieved his life desire to see the club when a premiership whilst he was at the helm now he appears to have lost the passion and investment he had in the club. There should of been a football review at the end of last year
I fear the Gordon thing too. Has he moved on to focus on the lawyer firm now? I thought this yesterday but checked on posting thinking I'm losing my mind trying to work out WTF is going wrong!
I think a lot of things come into play. They are the ones who got us there so they think supporters have to be grateful plus they won't move as they can't see anyone good enough to take over.
It's all fallen apart since the unity in 2016. Look at the Alberti/ Gordon situation the next year. Like bulls on heat butting horns.

Bev is slowly losing the players.
When he announced the two debutantes last week naturally the team were happy for them.
However, at the same time they realized they were facing a loss due to the playing standard of the two players and how other better credentialed players were left to sink or swim in the seconds team.

Bev has a great even temperament that is suited to the heat of play on match day. However, he needs to learn how to use his emotions (not just stories) to raise the spirits, motivation and energy level of the players. If he doesnt change his ways...the premiership will be unfortunately seen as a fluke, a once in a lifetime sequence of events when everything just fell into place.
It's already seen as a fluke. Yesterday basically downgraded that achievement to be simply a typo on the AFL records.

I do that with Gowers too

When was the last time Bont kicked a goal from outside the goal square ?

Despite the horrific skill errors, fumbles, mismatches, had McLean nailed those 2 late last quarter shots, that would have had us at 12 points down, could even have pinched it, Carlton might well have panicked because of their last game. A bit like the Gold Coast game, had either of Gowers or Lloyd nailed one of their late last quarter shots, we probably would have pinched it or at least drawn. Beveridge calls the missed shos frustrating, imagine what it must do to the defenders and mids to work to get the ball to the forwards only to see them miss gettables.

The 3rd Quarter of the C'wood game aside, the team hasn't played with any of the manic energy that won the flag and finished 2018 for the last 3 games. There must be something wrong, is Beveridge disciplining players and if so what for ? Have the core, Bont, Dunkley, Hunter, Wood, McLean, Macrae, Wallis, even Libba become complacent ? Has Beveridge lost the players ?

Presidents are fund raisers. The odd one wants to meddle in football department matters, I think Nick Columb had a bit of that in him, but I don't think Gordon does. Similarly Alberti, a bit of Entitlement mentality ? egos ? Neither kick goals. The malaise is in the football department and can turn around suddenly, witness Essendon.

A MESSAGE FROM A MATE:

It’s time to put it out there. The coach’s ego, arrogance & pig-headedness at selection & inability to respond with creative responsive moves mid game is verging on disgraceful. No excuses. The pr&ck needs to be hammered in the press. No big guys, no Afro at ruck contests, one inexperienced scardy cat who continues to give f&ck all in all centre bounces & most around the ground aerial contests. He plays like a winger, won’t runnto the right places and doesn’t have one ounce of mongrel. Relief ruckman are Bont, Aaron, Dunks. English continually gets pushed and thrown off the contest. Opposition have worked out Caleb’s role & kickins. Our on-ballers have little faith in English. It is obviously they don’t believe in him as a ruckman and they don’t believe in the game plan. We are getting hammered every game & our undersized defense is always under the pump. We attack from the back half. We have no leading targets. Our entries are usually via the boundary or too slow and then into a crowded forward line full of stagnant little people who are not moving & creating space for others. The forward structure & strategy is ****ed. Selection has cost us 2 games. F&cking joke. Dunkley CHF and back up ruck! Not his fault he can’t get a touch. Wee man has to play around mid/centre where he is dangerous & can use the nut into our non existent forward line. Obviously the team has zero confidence in this set up and are playing that way. F&ck em.

HE WAS NOT HAPPY

True but I think I'm coming more from the accountability side of things. It's he going to tell St Bevo that "This ain't good enough"? as well as info to the fans as a lot of people are seeing as an issue.
Alberti was a fund raiser too. But I agree with the entitlement thing. Just think Gordon's got a bit of that too.

Fair points.

To be fair, I think English is being unfairly criticised. He practically broke even in the hit outs, is starting compete more around the ground and is impacting some aerial contests. Not a bad effort for a second year ruckman. Admittedly, I think he'd benefit from having Trengrove, or Boyd, when ready, rotating through the middle with him, but seriously, give the kid a break.

As as has been highlighted repeatedly, the match was lost at the selection table. It was a must win game, not an ideal time to debut two players.
I think English needs to play unless he burns out again (though he shouldn’t given it’s his third preseason).

It’s lunacy keeping him as the only ruck. Bevo suggested Boyd is a very long way off but Christ we could use him right now.

I've never seen so many contests where our players short stepped because they didn't want to make body...n

That's a pretty serious allegation. I thought that one of the forwards did that once. If you are right, that might explain the odd selections, Beveridge wanting to reward goers. Hayes showed himself to be one of those.
