I may be in the minority but I reckon Butts has more upside than George and will come good he was electrifying in the first half of the 2s against Port.

Having said that has been putrid this year in the 1s this year and deserved to be dropped. Bolton and Baker have taken their opportunities so he’ll have to play well in the 2s and then if/when he gets the opportunity in the 1s play with a lot more intensity

For me they offer different things Castagna is better in the air with his marking and has better pressure when he hasn’t got the ball but Butler is better in traffic and winning ground balls

Yep and as stated many times George’s kicking stinks but Butlers isn’t that flash either.

At the end of the day it’s Butlers leg speed that gets him a game, we saw that in 2017, he used it to great effect offensively and defensively. Hope he rediscovers that form

Would happily see the back of Butler. Has barely been AFL standard since the Grand Final. Dumb, soft and appears to have lost pace.

From what i have seen in the last couple of weeks, Baker & Boulton offer us a lot more than Butler & Castagna. Both of them will be surplus to our needs in the next year or 2 IMO.

Bolton and Baker have surpassed Butler.
Very difficult to play all four including Castagna.
Even Higgins can be switched forward if need be.
To delist can choose three among Butler, Chol, Grigg retirement, Markov, Weller.
Houli can retire end of 2020, which is fair, means we only have to delist two players.

With the emergence of Balta and Chol progressing well and both capable of playing forward / ruck I would be very open to trading CCJ for a gun mid if someone came knocking. Crows the best option in this instance.

Short won't be going anywhere. Blokes that can run & kick like him don't grow on trees. He is the epitome of the modern day half back.

We wont be able to keep him if hes that good and behind Nank.

None of those guys are genuine rucks and even nank as good as he is isn’t a good tap ruck
CCJ will be our number 1 ruck in 2 years and the club won’t let him go

It’s a lot easier to find and develop a midfielder compared to a ruck and once you have one you can’t let them walk

After watchign Castagna more closely than normal on the weekend, he surprised me and I can see why he's in our team.

If only he could get the yips out of his system, I don't think we'd be talking this harshly about him.

1 Goal 4 so far this year, and 26 Goals for 24 behinds last year, of which 5 of those behinds were in the GWS game!!!

Agreed another A grade midfielder should be a priority.

But i don’t think our list manager would entertain trading CJ

A. He has a unique skill set - is shaping up as a genuine kpf/ruck capable of playing either role equally well. No other player on our list has that ability. Had a break out game against Geelong that had coaches really excited about his prospects as s kpf considering he was recruited as a ruck that could pinch hit forward.

B. Behind Nank we have no potential AFL ruckman. Soldo imo will never have the athleticism or tank to play AFL as first ruck and Chol is a kpf that can pinch hit (similar to balta)

C. We have other currency st the trade table that will allow us to target another mid

It’d be healthy to have that depth

And then have to start again recruiting another ruck prospect .
We got Ross and RCD and turner & naish on the outside , midfield stocks not bad
I reckon r1 pick will be a marchbank noughton type then mids

Like Dimma says, it is a performance-based competition.
If Butler plays well in the VFL, he is in the mix for senior selection.
Baker, Bolton and Stack are better ATM.
Menadue is better than Markov.
A future KPD is a top priority.
If Grimes sustains an injury in finals, we are done.

I'm not done with Butler yeah has been poor ,but maybe his significant injury has something to do with it to. Still young to.People got a short memory how good he was in our flag year has a alot of tricks.He will be back.

He was always icing on the cake even in '17. Great pressure player but limited in that he never wins his own ball. You can only do that for so long and when a team is in great form like us in 2017. Players with more attributes have been snapping at his heels and have overtaken him. He will have to fight hard and get down and dirty to get back in because Bolton and even Baker are not going to give up the spots readily.

No Chance i would be trading CCJ , This kid is looking like a Gem and is developing beautifully, He is 2 years away from being a regular in the seniors and taking the role that Balta is currently playing with an eye to being #1 Ruckman in 3-4 years. This kid is a real gem you cannot seriously consider any trade
