Another couple of guys playing league football this week. Jackson Mead was originally named on the extended bench too, so he'd be a good chance to debut next week. Cameron Taheny will no doubt be playing at the top level soon enough too.

Watched WWT v Sturt U/18
Liked the look of Josh Morris, dangerous forward, good turn of speed and few nice contested marks. Kicked 6.
And Lachlan Hollie, mid, great game, clean, good work ethic, won plenty of his own footy, good decision maker.

What's happening in SANFL land? Jordan O'Brien is back for his first game of the season, he should be around the 22 come the Championships. Otherwise Jamie Coff probably has the edge in the competition for the KPF spots.

24 players have been added to the initial Academy squad, essentially making up the numbers to play the WA Academy next weekend. But it's also obviously a chance for these kids to impress and force their way into the Championships squad...

Best known name there would be the overaged Declan Carmody, small forward from Glenelg. He took part in the state combine last year after making the SA Championships squad. He's started the year well in the reserves. Otherwise Darnell Tucker and Angus Rana will be familiar to SA draft watchers. Of the new kids, Harry Schoenberg is a regular in the bests at Woodville as a ball winning midfielder, while Joel Parker-Boers was a standout at the recent U18 combine testing - finishing high in the sprint and agility testing.

They are some impressive senior SANFL stats for Stephens and Gould.

I'll get around to posting all the stats from the round of matches, but Cameron Taheny made his league debut for Norwood. Just the 9 disposals, but kicked 3 goals and didn't at all look out of place.

They are some impressive senior SANFL stats for Stephens and Gould.

Super impressive start to the year for them. I'm not sure why Stephens isn't talked up as a top 10 pick more, he's elite in this draft at what he does. Same with Gould, arguably the best KPP available.

Daniel Sladojevic - 11 touches, 4 marks, 1 goal
Declan Carmody - 20 touches, 8 tackles, 6 clearances, 1 goal
Brad Searle - 15 touches, 9 tackles
Joshua Shute - 32 touches, 10 marks, 6 inside 50s
Oliver Grivell - 18 touches, 9 marks

Updated the OP with the SA squad for the Championships. Still room to move with it, add players or drop them out...

Trent Burgoyne, Jye Sinderberry and Josh Hart were the three to miss from the initial Academy squad.

So what could a potential 22 look like for SA?

b: Will Gould - Karl Finlay - Harrison Magor
hb: Zac Dumesny - Dyson Hilder - Brad Searle
c: Dylan Stephens - Jackson Mead - Luke Edwards
hf: Cameron Taheny - Jamie Coff - Joshua Shute
f: Kysaiah Pickett - Daniel Sladojevic - Cooper Horsnell

r: Riley Thilthorpe - Jed McEntee - Harry Schoenberg

i: Oliver Grivell - Jordan O'Brien - Lachlan McNeil - Corey Durdin

I've gone with 5 underaged kids in the 'best' 22, but they'll no doubt be rotated through. There's versatility with the talls, Grivell and Gould can play at both ends. While Thilthorpe will spend time forward too. They may look at another tall though, whether it's the key defender Jordan Moore, a second ruck/forward in Damon Freitag or the athletic Lachlan Burrows.

Whats happened to Burgoyne? Hasn't been playing under 18's for WWT either.

He had a hamstring injury earlier in the year. Once he's back, he'd certainly be in the frame to be a late addition to the squad.

Thoughts on Will Day?

I like the look of Josh Morris, would find a place in forward line.

I imagine he'll play a couple of games at least, has performed well and fits into that third/fourth tall position.

Thoughts on Will Day?

Another who I have around the mark, and I did have him in my team just a few weeks back. The small defender and rebounding positions are still pretty much up for grabs, but I really like Zac Dumesny and they'll be vying for similar spots. While I wanted to find a spot for Harrison Magor. The coaches also like Oliver Grivell, he's really strong in the air and that could release Will Gould to play a more attacking role. But guys like Day and Oliver Shaw are in the mix in the back half.

Have Baldwin, Borlase and Schreiber not developed far enough?

Kaine Baldwin is out for the season with a knee injury. He was in the initial academy squad and would have been a good chance to be named.

Will Schreiber and James Borlase have been alright without standing out. As underaged players, I wouldn't be too concerned. They'll feature again next year. But KPDs are definitely a strength for SA this year with Finlay, Gould, Hilder, Grivell and Moore. Hopefully as the season goes on, Schreiber will get a chance to play a more attacking/midfield role.

My current SA Top 10

1. Josh Shute Sturt Outside Mid
2. Dylan Stephens Norwood Outside Mid
3. Cam Taheny Norwood Dangerous Forward
4. Jackson Mead WWT Inside Mid ( Port F/S).
5. Dyson Hilder North Key Defender
6. Kysaiah Pickett WWT Small Forward/Outside Mid
7. Lachlan McNeil WWT Inside Mid
8. Daniel Sladojevic South Key Fwd (Crows NGA).
9. Josh Morris WWT Dangerous Fwd
10. Will Gould Glenelg Rebounding Defender

Thanks mate, makes sense. Yeah agree, would be interested to see how performs if he is added.

Does anyone have any match reports from either of the SA V WA games on the weekend? Im watching them but I cant seem to find any summaries of at least the players names corresponding with their number so sort of hard to differentiate players.
