For the record I too think Masten deserves a stint in the WAFL as do most but I think Simpson is probably backing him in for a bit being an experienced player.

Sorry (controversial opinion here) but I don't think just serving in the defense forces means you are automatically awarded respect. Respect is earned, there are plenty of campaigners in the armed forces. I've got an old mate who was in the Navy and basically drank his way around the world, was arrested in two countries for belting people while out on the piss (and let go because the cops in both countries couldn't be bothered dealing with the hassle), and then left as soon as he'd earned his trade. Does he automatically deserve respect? A campaigners a campaigner no matter what they do.
And that was said with no reference to Hungrytiger at all, he might be a stand up guy (Masten obsession aside).

How bad and for how long does Masten have to get before he is dropped? He must have some hold on them. Runs up and down the field, loses every contest he manages to get involved in, can't tackle, can't mark over his head, low production, and can't hit a target under no pressure. Unbelievable. If the opposition get smart they'll let him go. He will kick it straight back to them on the odd occasion he gets the pill. They probably know this already.

The Match Committee also persisted in playing a Certain Someone when it was glaringly obvious to many, he was holding the team back

Certain Someone retires and we come out fresh and rejuvenated and win the flag. With Masten yes, but it’s now that same argument from years ago, can’t drop ..... because he’s too important to our game plan... and it’s bullsh*t...

There’s a number of players who could be trained to play a similar role who play straighter and won’t shirk the contest..Duggan for starters
