My two favourite inputs from Facebook have been somebody calling for Oscar Allen to get the call up to replace Cripps, then somebody’s annoyance that Schofield’s name is next to Rohan’s so he must be playing on him and won’t have the pace.

Similarly there was a 'Jetta on Hawkins, recipe for disaster' post on Facebook. God bless the nuffies.

Lol Mastens been averaging 14 touches while playing on the wing, DV was averaging 11 touches while playing in the forward line before being dropped.

14 touches after 5 games for a senior mid is quite pathetic tbh, I don’t care if he can run, he literally offers f all after that.

MC would literally drop Sheed again if he has a bad/quiet game before they even consider questioning Masten.

I mean if DV was dropped after 2 games for his low production, than Why isn’t Masten after 5 games of low production.

I have a lot of time for DV.

With the MC dude it is kind of like this when they look at masters production. You kind of need to know that role and production he is kind of tasked with. You dont - they do.

Suggest going forward we just have a single Masten thread & not allow a mention of him anywhere else.

It would be a beautiful thing that covers a lot of ground, goes around and around in circles, takes up a huge amount of unimportant space, can be a safe place where folding under pressure is not a bad thing & posters can stop worrying about trying to play the man (woman).

Oh yeah, sorry Vards not this week so Venerables to get an undeserved run.

This all day long!..I'm no footy expert, but a lot of people clearly don't understand Masten's role. They just go on his 50/50 turnovers and stats. No-one acknowledges the precise spear kick-on-tit he can do or the kicks that end in a goal, let along his run to+link up role and creating space and overlap, but you've heard it all before I'm sure.

It's similar to Lecca and how he was hammered on here for lack of stats and low scoring. It wasn't necessarily his job. He actually said in an interview something like " I get criticised every week by fans for not kicking goals or my low scoring recently, but that's not my primary job anymore"
It always begs the question - if so many posters on here think Masten should go, WHY don't the selectors or MC think the same?? Why don't they drop Masten?? Think about it...
PS-agree with Garlic above!

Mate LeCras was useless and selfish in 16 & 17. Last year he was great.

Masten in 19 isn't offering much and we should at least try something else before we think he is irreplaceable

I’d much prefer Venables at HF than Sheed, so we can get Dom back in his pre-Gaff midfield role. Only problem is I doubt the MC will drop any of the other mids.

My prediction is no changes, but happy to see Venables come in to give us some much needed forward pressure and creativity.

People that use the 'if he is so bad why don't the selectors drop him?' argument need to simply look at the 2016 elimination final selection.

In: Mitch Brown - small forward.

MC proving stubborn I feel.

Smith named as an emergency to put a bit of heat on Masto, although I guess he did play forward v GWS.
Brander named simply as encouragement for a good game against a quality opponent in Subi.
Rotham named to keep encouraging him. Can't see us dropping Schoey or Gov and we are already too tall across the ground.
Venables named - possibly the only possibility to come in at the expense of Oallen if the weather looks putrid.

A really strong chance we go in unchanged so I hope the boys have a much better effort up their sleeves.

Parfitt out is handy for us. He has been killing it as a high half forward. Seems strange that one of our achilles heel positions is a position of strength for so many other sides!

Or last week - wet game and we go in tall

Selectors f-up

By that logic all those players who get 80 games then delisted were ripped off as the previous 80 games mean they are great.

They picked him in the 22 all last season and we won a flag, surely they get a bit of credit for that?

Smith has been an emergency every week, apart from the Giants game obviously.

If Marsden runs out again this weekend I'll be mightily disappointed.

Would likely mean we're going in with the same midfield HFF structure and once again, playing too many mids.

There's one glaring issue in the team right now, and there's one obvious solution to fixing it. We all saw it coming, we all knew what Gaffs inclusion would mean.

Naming Marsden to play again despite easily being the worst performing mid all year doesn't give me any confidence we're addressing the problem. We need a FORWARD.

Seems Simpson might be happy copping it until Rioli magically comes back to fix his team.

Had to be Vardy and Marsden OUT. Had to.

I wonder if Geelong are playing a bit of mind games by adding two rucks (Abbott and Fort) to the extended bench? Maybe trying to dissuade us from dropping Vardy and rucking Ollen.

The obvious changes are Tuohy and Constable in for Clark and Parfitt. But our squad will be in the air before that’s confirmed.

Who is on the Match Committee?

Last year it was Vozzo, Simpson, Mitchell, Van Berlo, Pratt and Graham. Presumably Rosa’s replaced Mitchell this year.

Oh, and Gepp. I’ve got no idea what he does.

Good chance Vardy will rise to the occasion playing against his old club
Need to get him back in form, he was v good last year

By the time they get around to dropping Marsden it might be season over. His weak efforts cost a number of goals each week. When he crashed into Powell-Pepper in the last quarter last week I thought that's a very uncharacteristic action by him. Perhaps he had been given the message 'show something or you won't be here next week '.

All of this. Simpson said multiple times that a difference last year was that we played 6 genuine forwards. So what happens? We win a flag and go back to playing too many mids, and play them out of position as a forward flanker. It doesn’t work, never has. Gaff needs to go back to an outside role, Sheed to the inside, and bring in actual forwards to play on the flanks. I don’t get why Simpson is going back to the pre 2018 setups when he knows full well they don’t work??

The problem is - which actual forwards do you bring in to fill that spot?
Rioli - injured
Venables - horribly out of form
Smith - OK in a pinch
Cameron - probably not ready

Then you’re looking at Waterman or Brander, which makes us too tall.
