Side by side.
You either mean it or it's a cheap arsed throw away line in an ad campaign.
Pies obviously mean it.
I am proud of them.
They will never go bankrupt with a strong supporter base.

When players get delisted how much on-going support do they get from the club?

If this shutdown lasts for 10 months are we going to continue to pay our entire staff for that time? Where does this money magically come from?

I have a vague memory of myself questioning the way CFC spent its money instead of saving for a rainy day.
Got pilloried for that.
Well, the rainy day is here. How much better posi would we be in if our money was managed better.
I would argue that they did save for a rainy day considering they have 30 million in reserve inc 17 million in a future fund.

This is how they'd be able to continue to pay and support staff who have been stood down.

I'm proud of what the club is doing as the only way we'll all get through this is by everyone doing their bit.

Crazy crazy man. Even by your standards this is embarrassing
From what I've seen of the Negative Nellie's posting on this and other sites, they model their view of the world (well the CFC at least) on John O'Brien's Hanrahan, viz

"We'll all be rooned," said Hanrahan in accents most forlorn,
Outside the church, ere Mass began one frosty Sunday morn".

These sorts of posters are truly happiest it seems when the club is going through down times (eg spates of injuries, poor form etc), when they can point with pride to their earlier predictions of doom and gloom or can remind everyone else that they said "we shouldn't do this, coz I know better". For evidence, just have a quick look through the Beams thread.

It strikes me as sad, that publicly at least, they can't enjoy success or good news for what it is. That would be too mundane a reaction, and they're better/more sophisticated than that, so they seem to thrive on taking an opposite view.

Look at what the drugs saga cost the Dons and they were never even close to being in serious long-term financial trouble because they still had a massive supporter base.

You can sympathize with the predicament of a club like North Melbourne, but there's no excuse for a club as big as ours not to be willing to take the hit to look after its people.

Spot on mate. For some despite us bring a powerful club and being magnificent these last two years despite us having around 30 million in cash despite us donating homes to shelter the homeless despite us feeding hundreds daily they still can't find anything decent to say about our great club.
Even when we offer to keep paying our staff in these difficult times they look under a rock for something negative to say.
Amazing.

How dare we attempt to help some employees through a really tough time.

We could be waiting well over a year for a vaccine, right now we need to work out how we're going to keep the club alive before we make promises to staff. That's the way all the other big businesses are operating, you need to prepare for the worst case scenario, which is this dragging on well into 2021... because it's the smart thing to do.

Also the government has already said THEY will pay staff wages for those who are stood down due to the virus.

We're not a for profit big business. We're a not-for-profit footy club. if we are in a position to help out our employees without them needing to rely on government handouts - then it's what we should be doing.

Right... but wouldn't we need to know how long this pandemic will last before we know if we are in a position to help?

Do you realise we can't pay staff for doing nothing indefinitely, and that will cause us to eventually become bankrupt?

I think you may overestimate how much money the club has saved... Nearly all of it is spent every year, and a lot of our staff are on big wages (Harvey Sanderson ect)

I've got no idea about our financial position or how long we can continue to pay these staff - I don't think you do either, thus I find it incongruous that you are complaining about it. Additionally, I think it's pretty mean spirited to reflexivley hoard in the chance that you might need it later, even though you know others need it now. Don't worry, you're not alone though - hence the internal walls of toilet paper that many are selfishly erecting within their homes.

To be fair, the club has put themselves in a situation where they could do this.

I've got no idea about our financial position or how long we can continue to pay these staff ...

It wouldn’t be too hard to figure out a rough approximation by looking at last year’s balance sheet

Possibilities ...

(1) The AFL won’t allow it (gives Collingwood an unfair advantage in this era of creating an equal competition)

(2) Staff figure out the would be better off being let go and being looked after by the government.

My initial assertion was based on the AGM financial report of last year.
Our “profit” was minuscule compared to our turnover.
If the money you state actually exists, why are we going to the AFL looking for supplement payouts during this crisis?

Meanwhile Carlton are making staff redundant (not just stood down).

Industry sources confirmed to The Age on Sunday that part-time skills coach Williams, goalkicking coach Saverio Rocca and ruck coach Hamish McIntosh had all been laid off in the wake of the coronavirus crisis.

Carlton have taken the added step of informing their specialist coaches that there will no longer be roles for them at the Blues even when the game returns.

Next generation academy manager Zac Dawson – the former Hawthorn, St Kilda and Fremantle defender – and two of Carlton’s full-time recruiting staff have also been advised that there will no longer be positions for them at Ikon Park.

Not sure the AFL would even dare acting on anyone being paid for whatever advantages to set club or circumstances.

And there you go.
From us.

Collingwood would be one of 5 or 6 clubs that have rainy day accounts.
St Kilda is $12 million in debt.
Brisbane is a basketcase still. Bulldogs, Melbourne, North, Gold Coast & GWS are always borderline.
Port has built, but this will cause a slide. Ditto Carlton.
West Coast, Collingwood, Hawthorn, Geelong, Essendon, Freo & Richmond, all have reserves.
