Not panic stations.

Frustrating loss but it shows areas we need to work on to be anywhere near the top sides.

Our midfield needed more spark imo. Once again when Libba is tagged out of the match we struggle.

Our defence bar Jones was poor. I thought JOD wasn't bad fwiw. I took a leak when this infamous kick by TOB was taken.

Whenever we lose it seems like our forward line issues stand out more.
Marra looked dangerous when Naughton was benched.

Gardner is deliberately told to play off his man to use his running capacity. Not saying he played well, but the shallow turnovers and quick movement really burnt him. Not saying he played well, at all. But he's not a man to man defender and we're judging him by standards he's never going to meet and by not fulfilling a role he was never asked to play.

So many missed opportunities. We didn't deserve to be anywhere near a win by the end, but at the same time had we taken our chances earlier on we could have cruised to victory. Weird game. Gold Coast regularly seem to worry us for some strange reason.
It's the Suns leg speed that troubles us, they have a number of players with genuine pace. Once they get control of the ball in any space we can't go with them.
That's how Luko was able to get out the back for some easy pickings in a low scoring game really hurts.

If we can 50/50 the next two games, we are still a slim chance of top 4. But when we have Gardner, O'Brien, O'Donnell, Hannan, and McNeil all in the side, my optimism is misguided. Not one of those guys is AFL standard and it proves that our depth is more shallow that the club would admit.
On top of that, the talented forward line is being poorly managed in terms of method, structure, and planning.
Compounding the problems, there is no answer to the ongoing situations where teams can score very heavily and for prolonged periods against us.

So we’re basically where we were last year. Except we have Liam Jones so our defense is better.

It’s an indictment on the leadership of this club.

We had so much fu-cking around inside 50 all night and they made the most of their opportunities up forward , admittedly with a few goals pulled out of their arse. They deserved to win.

We weren't clean a lot of the night and fluffed so many chances

Kudos to [PLAYERCARD]Liam Jones[/PLAYERCARD] again. Much respect.

At least from watching the VFL, he can read the ball well and actually go for the mark. Unlike a certain, cannot win a direct one on one contest, and only skill is punching it defender. I'd be giving him more a run is his actual position. O'Brien and Gards have over 150 games between them, and should not be making some of the positioning, ball and contested errors as often they do.

I’m a Gardiner fan, but he was ordinary tonight.

If I’m dropping defenders for next week, O’Brien’s top of the list. Doesn’t really offer much. Other than a tall frame inside def 50. Can’t play 1v1 on the talls, doesn’t play an intercept role even though he has the capabilities.

The sooner we get games into Busslinger then we can move on from Gards

JOD actually showed poise , unlike some other players I refuse to name... PS they're initials are [PLAYERCARD]Tim O'Brien[/PLAYERCARD] and Mitch Hannan .

The kid has a future , the MC also need to have the sack to set fire to the deadwood immediately, renew and play kids that you know will be best 22 in the future. When fit/available - Bedendo, Cleary, Khamis ( and I'd throw West in here in a midfield destruction only role )

I could not give 2 stuffs if they make errors, they cannot be as bad as the players I will never name again !! And those players are..

MITCH HANNAN and [PLAYERCARD]TIM O'BRIEN[/PLAYERCARD]

Gardner looked clueless a few times tonight.

O’Brien I just don’t get it.

So it was the wrong decision? You can't have 2 dogs in the fight, pick one and stick.
If you read my next post I said there was a more appropriate contest 20m to the right, still down the middle. I was at the game and could see it happen before he even kicked it [emoji1782]

Goal kicking training all week thanks coaches.

Our mids and backs must pull their head out seriously..

We need a second tall defender O'Brien, Gardiner, Keath did not play tonight just do not cut it. JOD in time maybe. Still think Astro down back with Jones looks good. JUH, Bruce forward is a worth try. Astro just does not provide value for money with all his talent forward.

Probably because we continue to play the kick it high and long to Naughton the majority of the time. To contests where he is at a disadvantage, like he is still the same forward that tore Richmond apart a few years ago, and not the one who got bitched by DeKoning last year who had like 100 games less and is a beanpole compared to Naughton.

Naughton kicks most of his goals vs bottom 10 teams these days, where in the first half of his career, most were against top eight teams. Teams have him worked out now. So instead of being Naughton centric, we should be taking advantage of his double and triple teams, and favoring other forwards around him.

"What do you mean we, Tonto"? Matt Spanger was heard to say.

Busslinger has been getting a fair few marks, and intercepts in the VFL, and ball use has been solid. Shows a bit to like for the future.

I think the thing against him at the moment is his slim build, and the fact he has been beat in a few one on one contests. Sure I would love to see some games put in to him eventually, but would hate to see our fans rip into him if he gets physically mismatched at AFL level and is forced to play more direct man on man when we go to sleep at times like we did today. The concern is we do not have another Jones type at all. Given his age, he could easily fall of a cliff any moment. A strong bodied man on man type should be one of our offseason priorities. Geelong has a few in their backline, Demons have a couple, we have just one.

Naughton was beyond frustrating. Adjusting his headband mid contest in the 2nd quarter was a droppable offence, the 50 metre penalty silly, the tit for tat with Hannan laughable but worst of all taking a mark 45m out late in the 4th and playing on like he was 80m out.
Glad someone else spotted this. It looked very bad and seemed to suggest he wasn't in a good hair, head space.

Won’t count our chickens but Geelong are in a spot of bother at the moment. It’s not the Geelong of 2022 for the time being.
We will play Geelong back into form. Naughton needs to go back, no point winning the ball if you can't kick straight. He would tighten backline up and we could get rid of tob and the like, we would still have a great forward line with Marra, lobb, Cody etc.
