The Olympics doesnt have the same excitement for me now as it did back when Sydney hosted it. With the s**t fight that is now starting to turn into a massive political disaster, I am starting to think it's just not worth the drama. Unfortunately there is nobody involved with any credibility or positive influence that is capable of leading the way to provide a successful event we can all be proud of.
I'm on the opposite side to you on this one ML, IMO the Olympics and Gabba rebuild will go ahead and the Games will be a massively well received and run event, and the new Gabba will be magnificent.

Media and politics are pretty low on the pecking order of trust with the public, all the political and media bloviating going on now is mere fodder for the masses. Once they get the actual projects handed over to the engineers and construction companies a fantastic job will be done IMO.

Agree 100% with the above bolded. What I am saying is that the bulls**t has gone up to a high level already and I am over it despite not one brick being dislodged from the Gabba yet. We are in for some serious sh*t fights over the next few years at ALL stages of this project and I dont want to hear/see any of it. o_O

Regarding the RNA
This post just about the seating.

Do people in this modern world want to actually sit out in the open watching a premier sport in Australia.
Not to mention paying good money for the privilege.
First of all, will you actually be able to get a seat or harder still a grandstand seat?
If you are lucky to get a grandstand seat i suggest you bring a soft cushion.
Grandstands are Heritage listed so they won't be changing anything much.

While i am on seating where are the corporate boxes/seats going to be located and in what numbers.
Of the Grandstands only the Ernest Baynes Stand is in a good spot for watching AFL in my opinion

Nice looking historic stand but you would hate to get a seat behind one of the 24 posts holding the roof up.

I read EKKA happy to contribute $15m, so just $76m to go.

All fair points, but by the same token how good would the temporary stands be at Springfield and how easy will it be to actually get to with that volume of game day traffic? Or is the fact that seating will likely suck at RNA enough to make Metricon a better option?

Clearly the current plan of asking the club and Qld cricket to make ridiculous financial contributions is a non-starter, but from a public transport point of view its definitely the best of a bad bunch of options.

I'm surprised lions fans don't seem angry at all about this. I'd be furious about the government stitch up potentially stuffing the club in the short and long term. Right at a time where the club is killing it on and off field too.

Finally, the Premier came out on Channel 7 news tonight.
Not an actual word for word quote as i just listened to her brief 5 seconds allocated to the story.
......
We are quite happy for AFL and cricket play down at Carrara.
However, both have stated they are unwilling to do that.

I wonder when the club will let us pick our seats at Carrara.

Also, on the news.
Gold Coast Liberal Mayor was asked about him pulling out (of funding) for the Commonwealth games.
Asked who was to blame.
He stated the withdrawal is placed solely at the hands of the state Labor Government

I think Tom Tate and Adrian Schrimmer had lunch together today.

Just checked now. The below blue Gold Membership sections have seating available for the Suns in 2024.
Start planning now BRAB ;)

Welcome to a non footy state.
If it was NRL on the other hand?

I’m very angry - this is a catastrophic mess for our Club and so unnecessary. Imagine bulldozing the MCG and dislocating Collingwood, Richmond, Melbourne, Essendon for 4 years to achieve an increase in capacity of 10k. The fact that the Qld Government doesn’t seem to be remotely concerned about the risk of destroying the Club and all the joy it brings supporters and members and the profile it gives Brisbane is out of touch ignorance. The Sports Minister doesn’t care about one of the most successful and high profile Qld sporting teams in Australia. Now we have Tom Tate blaming the same inept government for his decision to abandon GC’s bid for co-hosting the Commonwealth Games… what sn unmitigated mess.

It's one of the reasons the government probably think they can get away with it, the supporters are so blasse about it all. Over 50,000 members and not a peep if this forum is anything to go by.

Ditto. We need to maintain the rage. The only thing this Government will take notice of is potential electoral damage. They have treated us with absolute disdain.
The fundamental issue is the decision to demolish the Gabba without any Public disclosure of the reasoning or Business case.
Every Lions Member and supporter needs to put pressure on their local member to have this made Public.
Were the Lions ever considered in any planning? What other Stadia options were considered? Why didn't they stack up?
Get active Lions family or you will soon become the Gold Coast Lions. Just at a time when we will be likely facing on field cyclical decline. This will devastate the Club financially.

Any seating improvements to BHA would be welcome in the future.
Traffic for AFLW GF 10k crowd was manageable. I think 15K would push the envelope.
Maybe 12k is pretty good for what it can be used for.
That's AFLW, AFL preseason. Maybe QAFL finals but it is a long way for some teams. Any U18 championships. School games.

The Lions have been given a lot by moving to BHA.
Most likely some more to come with Modern Pentathlon planned for 2032.
I think we will just have to plan and pay for some seating improvements as the years go by.
Getting some seating/grandstand from the Gabba pulldown may be a good option to plan for.

I am sure the club could plan for another covered grandstand.
I think it would need to hold 1200.
One building, two levels of 500/600 next to the existing one.
Similar seating comfort as the existing grandstand.
But no bells and whistles just what are needed approval wise.
