Not having a go at you mate, because you’re right. The way to stop Darcy is to illegally infringe which is never officiated, very damning.

We had many years of it with Joe Daniher

But hey maybe try exploiting poor umpiring by throwing instead of handballing more often than not?

there have been some clear frees not paid imo

but there have also been some where Darcy has been worked underneath it legally

he's a freak but at this stage his biggest weakness is a very high centre of gravity, so it's possible to use it against him legally if you are good enough and strong enough

If that champion data guy's analysis video holds true - this friday's game will be a highly contested goal fest with both us and Dogs trying to go through inside corridor approach. He still believes our defensive system is far stronger than Dogs so we should win this one - fingers crossed we bring the same level of energy like when we played against Gold Coast, Geelong and Carlton.

It is a shame that Sam Darcy is the first forward in the history of the game to be dealt with by defenders in this way. My heart bleeds for the doggies during this difficult time.

We've spent years watching opponents illegally hold Charlie Cameron back either by pulling his jumper or putting both arms around him when going after the ball because they couldn't match his speed.

Darcy isn't the only player ever hard done by. Especially when he's allowed to puncture an opponent's lung off the ball despite the MRP being all about punishing the outcome of non footballing actions.

Nah, the way to stop Darcy is to cut off his supply. Most people here are a bit young to remember, but before he did his knee in 1984, Paul Salmon was absolutely unstoppable. He showed glimpses in his first year, but in 1984 there seemed to be no way to match up on him. The only way to limit his scoring was to win the ball upfield and limit the number of times the ball went inside Essendon’s forward 50. A bit hard to do, because the Bombers were a brilliant team who won the Premiership in ‘84 and ‘85, with one of the best midfields in the business. Footscray in 2025 are an easier proposition. There is no doubt that Sam Darcy is a gun, but he is not in the same class as Paul Salmon was in 1984.

For the record, in 1984, Salmon’s 13 games yielded 63 goals. He played Rounds 1 to 13 and his goals came in at 7,7,8,4,5,8,2,2,7,1,7,2 and 3.

He was a FREAK and scary good. At his best and given the team he was in, he was just about unstoppable. Darcy on the other hand is very stoppable.

Pretty famous contest between Charlie and Duryea in the 2021 semi final in the last 2 mins, where Duryea does a great job... including about 3-4 holds that could have been called.

The umpires in that game were never going to pay those free kicks to Charlie. The free kick count in the last quarter of that game went against the Lions 10/2.
Umpires Matt Stevic, Nathan Williamson and Robert Finley
We remember

Doesn't seem like there will be a Beecken debut judging by the lack of announcement this afternoon.

Same.
Hopefully Big O can have an impactful game this week, otherwise it has to be Day straight in next week.
Yer, O looked so slow and cumbersome last week, hopefully he pulled up well and the run has done him good.
Fages said after the game he’d consider playing 2 rucks against some oppositions, maybe this is one of them.

Apart from them both rucking quite poorly we otherwise looked good last week
IMO Day is a better target and a better ruck than O the way they have played this season, fingers crossed O turns it around.

Gardiner replaces him and pushes Lester back into his usual role

Gardiner just takes Payne's role which he should've 2 weeks back - we were just playing small in defense and getting away with it. Andrews / Gardiner / Lester take on the tall/medium forwards supported by Answerth / Zorko / Starce and Wilmot coming off bench.

I suppose we'll push Fletcher back with Bruce and Marshall coming off bench to play on the wings. That'll work too.
