Ok - stumbled across this article .. it's worth a read for lols

Also lol, check out the tatt of Stewie Dew on Daniel Gorringe's arse .. lost a bet apparently

Well west coast had to move Reid to the back pocket to get a touch.... Seems like it's gonna be another long season for them, they just have no idea how to transition from attack to defence once they turn the ball over. Look like us in 2020

How do you know what the results of the review were and whether or not they adhered to the recommendations?
I mean... they were widely publicised...
It's the same thing. You just sugar coated it.
It's really not. You're making up some fantasy, to justify having made a bad call. You got it wrong, own it, and move on.

They look very iffy don't hey.... Could be another tough year for Simpson

Can people stop saying we were going to rebuild, I remember when that word was first used and it was by Roo when we were getting our arse handed to us by either Brisbane or Gold Coast but it was around round 7.

It is what it is and we are seeing it through but let’s not re write history

Too bad, don't put the long term contract in front of him in the first place.
Yep. Its all a game of risk. Sometimes (most times) it works out fine but there is that time it doesn't. Risk and reward. When that happens you just have to suck it up and take it on the chin, not go whining to the AFL for special dispensation

But I think just look at what actually happened.

Pyke sacked. Burton sacked. Chairman exited. Jacobs let go. Betts let go. Greenwood and Keath let go. Jenkins let go. Otten and Douglas retiring after not being offered contracts.

If a coach came in and said - let's keep all those senior players and top up, we can compete for the finals - then they never would have gotten the job.

EVERYONE knew we were doing our first ever full rebuild. It was really obvious.
Are you ignoring my post where I listed all the players we still retained and finished bottom?

Okay - this a weird view to hold.

We were in a Grand Final in 2017. Lots of injuries in 2018. By 2019, it's obvious we can't win with the squad.

Our coach, chairman and head of performance all get exited. So do about a third of our league side.

It was obviously a rebuild.

You're leaning really heavily into "we hadn't done it before", when that's not relevant. We'd only been around 30 years, we never needed to. Now we needed a full tear down.

It feels like you have another narrative that you're more comfortable with, and that's fine.

For me it seemed like a rebuild at the time, and it seems like a rebuild in retrospect.
HAVE YOU IGNORED THE TEAM WE ACTUALLY HAD ON THE PARK?

ROO SAID WE DIDNT EXPECT TO FINISH SO LOW AS WE STILL HAD A CORE OF EXPERIENCED PLAYERS.

In the end it ended up a blessing so we could fast track the rebuild

The teams culture by then was bust and it wouldn't surprise me if Pyke, Burton were just keeping the board in the dark. Roo's media commitments no doubt made it easy to hide the cancer that had brewed that season. I for one am glad. That season was the catalyst for a massive cultural shift at west lakes. The right people have come on board and the club looks headed in the right direction. Time will tell what success that brings.

Also he already had well known concussion issues, hence the helmet, before he signed the long contract. That's on Melbourne being silly enough to give him 6 or 7 years when they knew one concussion could be career over for this particular player.

Hmmmmm - you sure that you are the one to give that advice?

One year ago you said that our list had zero chance of making finals in 23/24 and anyone who disagreed knew nothing about football and "had rocks in their head".

An argument can be made though, in fairness to Moysten, that the rebuild did start at the end of 2019.

We did trade away 5 first choice players at the end of 2019 (Betts, Jacobs, Jenkins, Keath, Greenwood).

Can we break it down?

Betts and Jenkins ''moved on ''
Jacobs was retired (imo)

Keath and Greenwood are really hard to nail down

Did we feel the contracts they wanted warranted the investment? Or had we decided to move them on as part of a rebuild

Given their ages and impact ( with Rupert having a continuing public battle in the future giving us a hint of the thought process) did the club decide the contracts they wanted were in excess of performance?

I think an argument can be made both ways in truth.

I don't think anyone can argue that as of the 13 game losing streak we were in full rebuild, nor can anyone argue that during the 2019 season we weren't pushing to win the flag. The murky area is from round 22 2019 - round 1 2020.

Personally I think that the culture was stuffed and Betts, Jacobs and Jenkins wanted the hell out. Greenwood and Keath are, as you said, much harder to nail down.

Exactly

What happened became the plan

That was a soft rebuild, Jacobs/Jenkins were cooked. Betts pretty much done. Keith and Greenwood the club thought we could get value and we got **** all.

That list of outgoing players did not justify a 0-13 start and finishing bottom. We still had a core of an ok side, not a bottom useless team.

Yep, it seems those trying to excuse Nicks are forgetting the words of our football director when he said we didn’t expect to be that bad as we still had quality experienced players but they couldn’t carry the team.

It was a blessing as we got Thilthorpe, cut deeper and added more elite talent over coming years.

No. I'm pointing out the 1/3 of our 22 that we got rid of.

OF COURSE there were players that stayed. There were players that stayed at North Melbourne - it doesn't mean they didn't know they were doing a massive rebuild.

"Only a third of the 22 left" - C'mon. They knew where we were at, otherwise they would have kept more of them.
