We need tough campaigners down back who hate getting beaten one on one. Comben and Archer are 2 we have now. Surrounded by good ball users and some genuine pace.
I would count Sheez in that category too.

This x 69 billion, all he'd do is takes games off guys we need to get to 50 asap.

Bit like playing Shiels and Greenwood ahead of Will right now. What exactly are we protecting him from? Gaining experience and being able to show what he showed as a junior? I saw fanatic08 said he was tracking better than Rowell as a junior - how many VFL games has Rowell played?

Spot on this. Get me guys that can run, that are unconditional with work rate (defensive and offensive) & pressure. Carlton’s rise is as much about the role players (id argue it’s what moved them to premiership quality) as it is about their stars.

Watch our other perceived issues lessen if we sprinkle selflessness around our talent.

Who was our last lockdown defender to blanket the Cameron, Stengle, Papley’s of the world?..

This guy doesn’t get a bucketload of possessions or a million metres gained because he’s too busy locking down… tough little campaigner is absolutely elite 1v1.

Costs us nothing at the draft table and we set-n-forget for 5 years+

Make it happen Clarko.

Thats it.....get Kayne Turner back in the MSD......seriously though, we did look better last year when he came in!

Contracted until 2027 and he is already 29, turning 30 in August and I assume he is on big coin.

I am assuming it's a salary dump for the doggies and we pick up a draft pick of theirs as compensation?
He’s durable and will play to 35 if touchwood serious injury doesn’t get him.

If we haven't been on the phone to Jack Macrae's manager more than once by this point in time, I give up!
Yeah what's Crazy Bevo doing? I suspect he fancies himself the AFL fantasy Hilux, and wants to get his price and TS% down, only to bring him into the starting line up with 100pct TOG and CBA's. Mind boggling, and this after Dunkley up and left too.

This is (I think) the full list of players we have brought in from other clubs since 2017.

Paul Ahern
Aidan Bonar
Atu Bosenavulagi
Tom Campbell
Callum Coleman-Jones
Aidan Corr
Hugh Greenwood
Zac Fisher
Aaron Hall
Billy Hartung
Daniel Howe
Nathan Hrovat
Griffin Logue
Connor Menadue
Alex Morgan
Bigoa Nyuon
Jasper Pittard
Jared Polec
Liam Shiels
Dylan Stephens
Jaidyn Stephenson
Darcy Tucker
Dom Tyson
Josh Walker
Marley Williams
Lachie Young

Not counting this year (because it's too soon, obviously), but they played an average of 11 games per year for us. (Obviously injury played a part in that for some guys, but there's a bunch who played a lot of games in the reserves, too.)

This is what it looks like when you target serviceable role players, or fringe players from good sides, or get the guy who is "stuck behind x, y and z", or "we have to spend the cap somewhere", or someone to be placeholder while the kids develop. Sure, there are a couple of winners in there, but that's a lot of time spent on cycling through players for no real benefit.
yeah we replaced our deadwood with that from other clubs.

And yet people still think it's a good idea...
I'm a great believer in you pay peanuts you get monkeys. And I alluded to it in another post, that the AFL assistance package really amounted to peanuts....ie/ ability to lure mature age marginal players from other clubs. There is no quick fix, we need to keep hitting the draft.

The assistance was designed to fast track back to middle of the road. Better than nothing but when clubs know you have to trade it they hold the whip hand.
That said its done now and should be the model going forward.

Should, could, won't. Call me a cynic, but the high picks will come rolling out again for WCE.

And watch the media morons insist that giving WCE pick 1 as a PP is worth less than the picks we received last year, even though we offered those picks to WCE for pick 1 and they wouldn't trade.

Even though those picks so far were pick 29, and looking like two mid twenties this year....
