I think it’s worth asking whether there’s a massive difference between McDonald vs. Davies in 14 months (ie start of 2026 season).
If there isn’t going to be then it’s an easy decision.
Quite frankly I don’t think there’s enough of a difference now that it’d lose us many games we’d win.
It’s irrelevant to this discussion whether we lost any of those last four games because we didn’t have Pearce - Draper is playing ahead of McDonald anyway.
McDonald was playing ahead of Draper at the start of the year, injury aside I think that continues later too.

Does "a lot going wrong" involve the Bont having a fall out with the Bulldogs and heading to Freo as a free agent on a pay cut as he just wants another flag?“Sources have told The West that talks between his management and Fremantle have been ongoing and that “a lot would have to go wrong” for Pickett to not end up in purple next season.
Club insiders also told The West signing the 23-year-old was currently a high priority for the Dockers.”

I'm not really seeing Draper as cover for Pearce, and that's almost specifically what I'd look at keeping McDonald for. He's a unique player, but one on one on gorillas isn't what I think Draper will be best at. I hope we get him into the side in a more offensive role.I'd see getting rid of McDonald as natural list progression tbh. Draper is already ahead of him and Davies after this season might be as well. We'll cut 4-5 minimum and he's less than a year younger than Pearce - Don't see why we'd keep 'mature depth' when there's better or nearly as good younger depth in the same position tbh.
With Reidy it's not the club cutting him I'm worried about, it's him leaving for better opportunities.
Riddle would get another year easily if he shows anything. Longer if he shows a lot.

Davies might be? Ok. If we had MacDonald available end of last season I think we play finals. That's worth a list spot if he has a decent 2025.
I don't see Reidy getting best 22 offers anywhere personally. Useful back up seems his top range to me, which makes him perfect depth.
McDonald is in that magical land on this board of not playing games in the AFL or Peel. He therefore is pumped up more and people want to retain him. I suspect that will pass as the season pans out and he plays all his games for Peel without banging down the door.I have this argument every year about depth. I don’t think the club will see McDonald the same way as many on here do if we don’t use him this year. If he plays games he’ll get another year, if he doesn’t he won’t. Time will tell but I honestly think it’s as simple as that.
It’s not best 22 offers I see Reidy getting tbh. In some other squads he’s no.2 without any other competition bar the no.1 and youngsters that aren’t ready. Voss as a KPF probably adds more to the team than Reidy as a ruck tbh - Jackson gives us that option which most teams don’t really have. Last year was a bit different but most years we see a lot of average no.2 rucks switch clubs and not always to clubs where there’s a guaranteed chance of more game time.

Your point seems to amount to that an out of contract player may switch clubs. Yes, that's possible.I have this argument every year about depth. I see him more like Silvagni. Not someone I want in the best 22, but ready to go if Pearce or perhaps Cox is hobbling around. You know, those kind of things that made any chance of finals last year evaporate.McDonald is in that magical land on this board of not playing games in the AFL or Peel. He therefore is pumped up more and people want to retain him. I suspect that will pass as the season pans out and he plays all his games for Peel without banging down the door.
I don't see him getting pumped up like he's some sort of premier defender...I see him being seen by the majority as a solid backup.McDonald is in that magical land on this board of not playing games in the AFL or Peel.
