I'm not big on assuming we can't afford players by guessing our salary cap situation, but unless everyone on one of our long term deals took 30% unders, there just has to be a limit and and think Chad and Pickett has to tip us over.

Also, would struggle to get enough trade capital for both even with future trading.

Seriously not convinced Warner is a better option for us in any case than Kozzie, Bolton and Young will excel in the attacking midfield role Warner plays.

Kozzie is a massive upgrade on Banners, or replacement for a retiring Walters.

You could argue Chad replaces Fyfe in the 22, but personally I prefer an upgrade in the forward line and depend on improvement out of Johnson, Dris, Ras or Simpson to fill the spot credibly, add Murphy in 2-3 years time.

You’d think Kozzie more affordable too, a goal kicking mid like Warner is probably going to be on well above $1m pa - surely cap is tight for us now.

That makes it a horrible small forward set up for oppo to defend, let alone worrying about the talls.

I think there is way too many reports / rumours/ social media liking for him to not have some genuine interest in joining. Don't doubt that really at this point, but that's like step one in the process. The biggest hurdle is still Melbourne actually agreeing to trade him so the Worst saying "he'll be at Freo next year", is just shit and/or trolling "reporting" again.

I believe that WC getting Chad Warner helps them retain Harley Reid.

So... considering we play WC twice a season, if we are able to secure both Warner and Pickett then we could consider it also costing WC Reid to miss out on him.

The best thing overall for us is Melbourne to tell us to piss up a rope THIS year.

We get Chad, whan and Hart on the books perhaps with two firsts out and a second or third coming back for 2026.

Fyfe and Walters salaries are off the books end of this year, Brodie is close to gone, we’ll have clarity on Erasmus and Drizzy. Are they going to make it.
We then have no issue giving MELBOURNE 2027 and 2028 first for Pickett because Robinson is coming. Tassie are coming in and those drafts will be compromised.

Reid, Simpson and Robinson should give us depth going forward. In this compromised drafts we can fill round the edges

Fyfe and Walters would still be on 400k each you’d think? Yes some of that so factored in, but getting both Warner and Pickett doesn’t seem complete fantasy to me, if you put it in the full context of Reid, Robinson, Whan and Hart..assuming they’re potentially AFL standard, we have a very solid list going forward.

The biggest elephant in the room for Melbourne re: Pickett is Tasmania and the compromised drafts. Pickett will fall out of contract during this period, right? If they have any inkling that he genuinely wants to head back to WA, they may let him go this year to ensure that they can extract maximum value.

We will also need to juggle the Warner trade. Even if we want KP, Freo won't rule out Warner and will probably feign interest right until the end just like we did with Baker to maximise the price WC pays.

Two firsts and a second plus a player I'd expect to be worth the same at the end of the season, so;

Four firsts and two seconds for Warner and Pickett and a massive hole in our ruck division.

Jackson is not a #1 ruck. Reidy does nothing except contest at the ruck. Combine the two into one player and we can replace Sean Darcy.
